AoD starting ship.

talonxvtalonxv Member Posts: 4,257 Arc User
Who in the name of Grethor thought it would be an EPIC idea to take a tier 4 ship, slap it at tier 1 with all modules and weapons replacements to boot and thought this was a great idea?!

Cause it was my understanding(and quote me if I'm wrong) that it would start at the same tier 2 level and unlock when you got to each tier so it was weapon and module appropriate.

Instead you have a tier 4 ship masquerading as a tier 1 abd obsoleted every ship till tier 4 for the Federation over night. And all for the current price of $7.50.

Who again upstairs thought this was a brilliant idea?

My guess is it's the answer to people calling the game P2P:

    "-This game is P2P!
    -Marketing "genius": Hold my synthale!"

Yeah, if this game had twink pvpers like other games, there would be howling and gnashing of teeth on the forums. :D
But nothing says you have to use it at T1, go use the starter ship, then get your free T2 ship, use that, then get your free T3 ship and use that, then at T4 use the baby Walker ship. And don't forget to get your free T4 ship from the Admiral.

Sad part is now for a Fed toon, if I had waited except for some consoles, the only real ships I'd need for a grind are:
    Walker 1-4
    Ambassador tier 5
    Manticore tier 6(life sun ship).

But I do love my Esquiline, Valiant and Hestia. But only tier 6 ships I'd want. For grinding 2 ships and that's it. Man I feel like a moron for over the years collecting most of the tiers 1-4 ships.

When I saw the consoles, boff setup of that Tier 1 ship, I thought this was a bug :D I was double checking the stats to other Tier 1 ships to see if I missed something.

It would be a very OP ship in STO if low level PvP still existed. If Cryptic could make the ship so that weapon slots, console slots, and Bridge Officer slots were added as it increased in Tier, then they would have done so.

Tbh, while it's a great low level battle cruiser, what with 7 hard points etc, it's hardly a replacement for everything. As a science ship, it barely outperforms an Oberth.

It's tough and it makes the combat easy, but it takes away from the gameplay if you're not a combat focussed eng or a tanky tac.

Since its a scaling ship, I'd not consider it a T1 ship really.

I have it cuz I love the look, but fell in love with the DSC starter ship and been using that instead.

The layout of the scaled-walker class does scream OP at T1 due to more weapon slots mostly, but honestly... its T1... min-maxing at T1 on a game already trivialized by most gear and sets is a 'so what' to me. Do it if you like. Don't do it if you don't.

The ship is very strong right out of the box. With a brand new character I rolled for AoD, the ship is limited due to my captain and BOFF ranks, but 7 weapon slots is a yooge amount of power. This ship will take care of all Non-SCI needs until you reach the Tier 5 ships. Even then, some Tier 6 ships are available when this Tier 1 ship is "finally" obsolete.

I can't wait to see what the DPS guys will do with taking this thing and see what it can do :D

I really like the new ship. even after i got it i bought the last federation T1 science ship because i used all 4 universal consoles and stuck them in the walker. i am noob so no idea if they will help or not. and yeah the weapon system is really nice for new players. i love the look as well the design is top notch and the Pew sound it makes when going to warp is /drool all i have left for the T1 ships to get is the Klingon bird of prey. So i will be getting that at some point once i make a Klingon character. but i see all the stuff in the Zen shop like its pokemon got to collect them all and in order. so after i get the last T1 ship ill be collecting all T2 and so on.

Srsly, don't waste your money on anything below T5.
80% of the low tier consoles are trash once you hit the endgame and the ships become obsolete the moment you get your next rank which ususally only takes a couple hours of actual play time.
The low tier walker is pretty much the first exception since it's basically a T4 that can be used right after the tutorial.

The only redeeming factor some low tier ships have are skins you can use on their T5/T6 counterpart like the T3 Heavy Escort Refit. If you buy that ship then your T5/T6 heavy escort carrier can use the Thunderchild parts. But even then before you buy such a ship make sure a) there's an endgame counterpart and b) that counterpart can use those parts.
It's relative easy on the fed & rom side but the KDF has mutliple bird of prey, raptor and battlecruiser branches which can't use each other's parts.

So I did a quick check. The allied factions from what I could see can't get it, but any Federation right after the tutorial can get the Walker.

Even TOS still in the TOS timeframe of 2270.

It's your Zen.. use it on what you want.

I personally disagree that anything below T5 is a waste.. in fact I only consider T5 specifically to be a waste.

If you are what we like to call an 'altaholic' and you make several characters then you're going to be doing the leveling process multiple times. It's always good to have ships to make that more fun, and when you get to max level they're good for admiralty missions. T5 for me is in a very bad place, they were originally intended as End Game ships but are now made obsolete by T6 and prices only a few dollars less.

The T1-T4 Walker is not a bad buy at all. 750 Zen for the ship is a great price and considering everything else you get in the pack it's a really good deal. Any Federation Alts you make going forward should cruise through the process in that ship and you can send it on admiralty missions when you reach high level.

If you ever have a question about a ship, let us know in our fleet chat.. you can usually find someone happy to advise you.

I have a couple actually, currently I have my AoC character he's around lvl 13? and I have a Jem at lvl 60.. not sure if I should keep the Jem because not quite sure how many slots I currently have. here is the Questions though what is the current cap on character slots? and secondly what would be the bet choices for factions + class. my original thinking one of every class plus faction. so 3 fed engineering science and tac, 3/6 Rom ( 3 Each Faction ), and 3 KDF? I would use my AoC as a fed tac so just need science and eng. but is 3 of each wise to do? I really love the story arcs and I wanted all bases covered? but not to derail the thread with the new ship I love it but seeing as it was such a big step up from original T1 ships and the KDF side didn't get much this update. I have a good feeling the next update to come after this AoC "Prelude" The real surprise might be yet to come? Imo.

      Hey fleet mate. :)

      - think one can have up to 52 alts on an account or so. A few slots are free more than that cost zen

      - I’d keep the Jem’hadar. We have a feature that enables them to unlock Jem#Hadar ships that then your characters of the other factions may use

      - After 6 years of constant play I ended up with 12 toons. Lots of work put into them. If you like to percept the game as a whole you do fine if you pull 1 toon for each faction and how you order them as in career does not really matter. Do it simply as you like. Tacs have the easiest time at endgame however. Romulan faction toons can get a tiny bit stronger but nothing to worry about.

^^ This. Unlike the bugship, for Jems, which comes at T5U, this ship seems pointless to buy. It scales to max lv. 30 only, so you're essentially just buying an Admiralty card.

I am not sure what the current cap is on a free to play account. When you're on your character select screen though, it should tell you next to the icon to create a character how many slots you have left. So if it has a (3) next to it, then that's how many slots you have before you would have to spend Zen for more.

Honestly, the 1 of each profession from each faction would be really tiedeous and overall not worth it. Why? Because you'll find that all of them do the same set of missions with all the same dialogue and options so you don't get much 'new' outside of the first few missions.

You already have a Fed, you might want to try a romulan or a Klingon. Thing with Romulans is that they are really a 'sub faction.' What that means is that they get their own unique story line (a very good one) up to a certain point and then they decide who to ally themselves with (Federation or Klingon.) Lets say you pick Federation, from that point on, all the missions would be exactly the same as your Federation Character.

I know you have a Fed and a Jem Hadar, my recommendation for your next character would be a Klingon Allied Romulan. This will let you experience both the Romulan and the Klingon story line and would give you the most new content for that one character slot. As far as profession goes, that's really up to you.. each has their own benefit. If you're looking for the easiest path to domination though, Romulan Tactical Officer gets to be insanely powerful.

As for ship, the Walker you have is the king for leveling, I wouldn't spend any money on any more Federation Ships unless they were Tier 6. The Walker makes all other 'leveling' ships obsolete.

Thanks to everyone who responded for my previous question. and this will make things easier, I can see 12 well invested characters being a lot of work. Klingon Allied Romulan sounds very interesting too. also thanks on the advice to keep the Jem'Hadar hmm lots of ideas for alts then woot woot and at least a really fun ship too! So far I have full phaser payload the linked phasers are all up front 2 in back with 2 of the old school ST ship ones that level with the ship. pew pew!!

Me too, and I wish they'd increase the cap so I could buy the Elite Starter pack. I can't buy it because, well, yeah, I'm at the character cap and the system won't let me.

At the very least I wish they'd just warn me that I will lose the extra character slot if I decided to buy the pack. I'd GLADLY lose the character slot if it meant I could get the extra storage, BOff slots and everything else.

It can be used by any Fed toon(including AOY) toons as soon as you complete the tutorial.

Yes you can use the walker tier 1 as soon as you finish the AOY tutorial.

Which I don't even play as I find it boring as DOFF missions.

Well, I believe the intent, according to the blog, was that it would be geared towards newer players and give them an opportunity to stay in one ship up though Rear Admiral, especially when you consider that there's only so many ships that they have been given in canon.

As it stands, they did the Walker as a T6 lobi ship originally, but since a new player coming in will not have 900 lobi to spend on it, they wanted to give them a ship they'd recognize from the show as a compromise for not allowing them to get the Crossfield-Class.

It's also a test bed in order to see if they can do it for other ships too. I remember there were people that wanted to have a ship that they could continue using for a while without having to change every few levels. It would seem that the day has finally come that people might be able to get it.

Almost every expansion (or a season) that got out would bring some new ship mechanics:
      - Legacy of the Romulus got us Romulan ships with singularity core and its effects
      - Dyson Sphere got us switchable ship type (Dyson Sci-Destroyers), which got so many bugs it got dropped and secondary deflector on sci ships
      - Delta Quadrant got us Intel ships and first Recrutiment Event
      - Iconians - I think it was when we got command and pilot ships (but I may be wrong)
      - after that was Temporal ships

Now we got next season, and the new gimmick is scalable ships - I hope.
