[VIL] What Happened to the Level 61 T5-U Upgrade Token - Answer

baddmoonrizinbaddmoonrizin Member Posts: 10,897 Community Moderator
There have been a few threads asking about this, and a lot of speculation about what happened to it.

Long story short: It didn't happen.

Short story longer: It's something Cryptic wanted to do, but the token was meant to be used specifically on the chosen T5. The tech wasn't in place to make it work for VIL though, so they changed their minds (NOTE: All pre-release information is always subject to change). Instead, just a T5 ship was offered. Unfortunately, the change didn't get made to the blog before it went out, and so incorrect information was unfortunately disseminated. It was all simply a case of miscommunication, nothing nefarious or shady. The changes to the rewards, though, are presented as they are intended to be.

So, there is no T5-U token. Information regarding a T5-U token wasn't supposed to be released. The Level 61 reward was changed to its current form. That being said, all other threads regarding this issue will be merged here, and this thread is being closed as an official dev answer has been provided.

OK i give up. Where is this ship token? When i lvled to 61 my screen says i received a ship token but i can't find it anywhere. Did cryptic change their mind about giving this reward?

What is this and where can I find it?

It popped when I leveled up to 61. The progress bar says "Vice Admiral Starship Requisition Token."

I am wondering about that myself. I went to the shipyard, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Go to the shipyard and scroll past the standard T5 ships. There's an assortment of T5 retrofits (ex. Galaxy, Defiant, Intrepid for FED) that you can claim via a token (and are upgradable to T5U). They might be mixed in with one or two c-store ships, so just keep an eye out.

You must claim this from a Ship Requistions Officer. You will see a 'V' token in bottom right of the screen of the ships you are allowed to buy. These are C-Store T5U ships, but you can't buy them via the C-Store however.

Does buying a ship with the token block purchase of C-Store bundles including that ship?
  • abraxarianabraxarian Member Posts: 3 Arc User
You can claim the free ship from any ship vendor.
  • echattyechatty Member Posts: 5,916 Arc User
Yeah, go to the vendor and look through the ships and see which ones you can get with your token.

No, because it is not the same ship per se.

It's a trick. It's really a shapeshifting founder disguised as a Jem'Hadar environmental suit. Check your inventory and see if he's hiding there.

As already stated, the free level 61 rewarded ships will be at any shipyard. It is a pre-selected list of ships that will be free depending upon your faction &/or if you have already claimed.

When you look at the ships, notice some cost Zen and some have a little VI token for the price. Pick one of those.

wait so do lifers get to claim two of those ships now?

Yes they do. I have the option of gaining an additional ship, after I purchased the Varanus with my main a while back. So now, I can choose the space peanut Orion FDC, or the Karfi carrier.

For those that are curious, the ships you can pick from the zen store list, are either retrofit, or cost 2k zen normally. No, you don't get to bag yourself a free Scimitar, or Bortasqu', Mogh, or Haakona. No Odyssey, or Kumari, Dyson Science Destroyer either, for example.

And if you dismiss the ship, you don't get to reclaim it again in the future. A lot of the ships though have decent consoles, like the Projected Singularity console from the D'Derpidex.

***Please note that you will lose your ship If you dismiss the ships you've acquired via token at shipyard.

This ship redemption via token/shipyard system is different from the C-Store system, please note.

On the FED side i can see only 2 ships and they are garbage. I was hoping to get the Free T5U upgrade token.

It only covers the ships you normally buy for Dilithium. Yes, these are 'garbage ships,' all the token is good for is a so/so Admiralty card. If you're expecting more then that, you're going to be highly disappointed.

I won't complain, it's free.. but they're not giving you anything you really desire. You pretty much pick a ship, get the admiralty card and then dismiss it. You're never going to use it for anything, it's a throw away ship.

What I do not get is why they call the ships "T5u" when (at least for Romulans) they are refits of the T4s or T3s and not upgrades of the T5s. That means that the ONLY Romulan science ship not locked behind a steep paywall is the T5 Ha'Nom and there is no upgrade from there so Rom Sci captains are forced to fly tac or eng ships at endgame. That is very disappointing.

Jem'Hadar lifetime members seem to only be able to get the level 61 token. I currently have a level 60 Vanguard standing at ESD and the VA token isn't showing up.
  • baucoinbaucoin Member Posts: 819 Arc User
It appears we don't get one. I currently have a level 60 Vanguard standing at ESD and the VA token isn't showing up at the ship vendor. So looks like we only get the level 61 one that everyone gets now. Bummer. :'(

    As the title states.

I tried three times to ask @ambassadorkael#6946 on the stream last night.

The original article definitely had it that we were getting an Upgraded T5U at Lvl 61 and that article has since been retconned. So does anyone know why they changed it?

They explained it in the stream. From what I remember, the original plan was when a character hits level 61, they would get a T5 ship and an upgrade token for that ship (and that ship only). However it turned out to be something of a technical challenge to limit the upgrade token to that one ship only, so they scrapped the idea.

I was excited about the Vice Admiral ship token, but I'll get over it. However they might want to change the in-game levels and rewards list. It still states a vice admiral ship token at lvl 61. There's going to be a lot of disappointed peeps.

Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

I just got the ship but I already got a T5 ship from leveling before. Really they should have just made a vanilla generic no frills T6 ship and put that as the reward. Monetizing things is one thing but come on. Even at T5 when 50 was the cap you got a free T5 ship. It's been T6 for a while now and really there should at least be a T6 free intro ship for hitting 65.

Seems more like not wanting people rolling toons for free upgrade tokens instead of buying them more than a technical issue. They could have implemented a system for those specific ships like the T5 lockbox ships that just have a free upgrade, not tokens.

I'm not seeing the big issue here. Is it really significant which ship gets upgraded? As long as they make the token character/account bound, like the vet reward, and non-tradable what is Cryptic losing? One of the points of VIL for me is the level cap increase and getting players an edge up past the last free T5 ships earned prior to VIL to prepare for level 65 mobs. Or am I missing something?

Ah, I missed that part in the stream. Thanks. It's a shame they haven't made a proper announcement about it on the forums.
