The TNG episode “Descent, Part II,” didn’t go the way it looked. Instead of Data defeating Lore, it was the other way around.
Lore went back to the Enterprise, and the Federation dismantled Data. Lore redeems himself when he dies at the end of Nemesis, and Data returns with his memories intact.

Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
It is only theory
And no, it's not a theory. It's a hypothesis. And one with absolutely no evidence whatsoever backing it up.

Lore made it pretty evident that he was "better" than Data, and with the amount of times Geordi had helped Data with stuff... pretty sure he'd notice anything different.

The only thing in your statement I can find fault is , Lore and Data were indentical in every mechanical way the only difference was lore had emotions that he could easily hide, also lore might have gained knowledge of datas past even the ferengi joke from datas personal journals/logs, and with spot lore could've easily taken care of spot to keep up apperances.
However as you said data got emotions during generations so it debunks the whole lore taking datas place hypothesis.
