I really think the Romulan's should've gotten a special kind of disruptors since disruptors are more canon for them.

We call this disruptor "Romulan Plasma" it's even got the disruptor proc.

which begs the question.. is that proc worth a modifier?

    Absolutely not.

Romulan Plasma is the worst weapon in the game.. hands down.

The phasers were brought up to speed. Which is good. Now Disruptor and Phaser became relevant. Plasma still needs a pat on the back and perhaps some +all plasma bonus or something available to be competitive to Phaser.

the phaser proc still makes it one of the worst wpn types IG if u ask me

even if u have a console with +phaser dmg on all slots

its not like we increase dmg via that stat only

You could put the DOMINO console on a Phantom in addition to its own phaser boosting console to get more of a phaser damage boost.

I can see this being very powerful. Throw in an Undiscovered two-piece and you're killing it.

Disruptors also have the Nausicaan set with double damage bonuses from the console and the 3-piece set bonus, and the energy torpedo is a pretty sweet deal too that Phasers do not yet have.

They are, my engie is running those. I'm not on my character at the moment but:

5 fleet tac consoles at gold quality for around 37% boost each.

    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Entoiled_Technology_Set

Console at gold quality is like 29-30% in a science slot with a 3 piece bonus of:
    26.6% Disruptor Damage
    +50 Hull Penetration

So effectively it's like I have 7 tac consoles with the different boosts to Disruptor damage so far but wait there's more!

    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Console_-_Universal_-_Heavy_Disruptor_Spinal_Cannons

    von_count.jpg

    disruptor tac consoles! Ha ha!

I think i could go on a little more but I'll stop till i can look at that char again.

On the other hand... what's more likely to bring shields down faster if the only variable is the proc? Tetryon or Phaser? Hell... lets even say AP.

    Tetryon.

how often would it proc and how much of a drain does it have? not often and not alot. I can kill stuff without the proc so while it may help speed things up a tad... it does not amount to much and once shields are down... it's doesnt help at ALL.

all other procs helps from start to finish, and only Tetryon stops being of any help. if the chance to drain was higher then it may be worth it, but as it's chance is the same as all other procs... your better off with any of the others.

my listing of energy types is...

    anti
    dis
    plas
    pol
    phas
    tet

thou I normally just go rainbow and instead of using energy type tac cons... I go beam to boost all energy types.

the 360 omi beam from mission rewards does less dmg than the crafted one. it does less dmg than the beam array. it's only a matter of time before the plasma gets a mission reward with a 360 omi.

Tetryon still has a lot of support, and anything that boosts Tetryon damage also boosts anything that does Tetryon Damage, which includes the full set Nukara clicky, the Nukara rep trait, and the full set Krenim trait.

And as I said earlier, Phaser could proc when you're not in a position to take advantage of it, or proc on a subsystem that that ship doesn't really need. How useful is a disabled Aux subsystem gonna be against an escort? How useful is a shield disable if you can't capitalize on it with a heavy hitting torpedo because you're either broadsiding or not in a position to launch one? And if we go into PvP... the resistances players have against subsystem disable could make the Phaser Proc only last one second before its back up, making the Phaser Proc essentially useless period. If they aren't they're most likely running Engie Team or Emergency to X which would clear it instantly.

So in terms of versitility... Tetryon is better than basic phaser. And a well built Tet boat is just as deadly as any other damage type. And in PvE... Tetryon would be useful against opponents with strong shields like the Tzenkethi and Voth. In PvP... it would be a surprise as, like you, many people view Tetryon as a garbage damage type. Who'd expect to have to defend against Tetryon when you're expecting the usual AP or Disruptor builds?

Any damage type can work just as well as any other if built right. I will agree though that Plasma needs some love. Plasma did get some interesting lockbox variants, but needs more support set wise.

Again, the phaser proc is only found on two types of phasers - crafted ones (Standard) and Andorian which are basically the same - in the game. ALL the others have different procs.

My main runs a full Tetryon Build.. trust me.. the proc is still terrible.

The thing is.. if you think about it, almost every proc is terrible. Phaser, Tetryon. Phaser, Polaron.. whatever. Even the Disruptor Proc is just kinda ok'ish. You can find a few special weapons with some interesting special procs, but as a general rule, they all pretty much suck at right around the same level.

It's all about mods and damage boosts. You can ultimately pick whatever you want and if someone tells you that you 'suck' because you're using Phasers or Tetryon just laugh because they have no idea what they're talking about.

For the most part, you can just pick the color you like best.

Yup, at 2.5% per activation any proc is of minimal effect. If we could re-engineer the proc to something else, I'm sure 99% of the players would turn it into DMG or CRTD! :D

Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

I'm unsure why people think that procs used to be per shot and were only changed to per-cycle with S13. Only plasploders used to proc per-shot, as well as buggy FAW every now and then.
    From horse's dev's mouth... https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/6twxy7/is_there_even_a_purpose_for_having_different/dloc8ms/?context=1

On the topic of phasers, DOMINO's 15% passive cat1 means something like ~2% actual damage boost (if you decide to slot the console in the first place), so it won't make a big difference. Disruptor still has Nausicaan torpedo and set, plus Terran Taskforce beam/DC.

I've paired that D.O.M.I.N.O console with the Quantum Phase set from Sunrise on my F2P with her Deep Space Science vessel. She's also sporting a DBB, a regular array, a ToS array (mission reward) and the Tri-laced omni. Several different flavors of phaser, the two consoles and a crafted phaser console. She's doing pretty good. I also bumped all the weapons to mk XIV, though only the DBB is epic. While the others are VR, I think. Yes, the blue ToS phaser did pop VR during upgrading.

She can melt things in her little T5 'freebie' ship and that's all I want.

I do. Exactly the same as today, go figure.

If they changed things how could they be the same as they are today unless they changed them back again?

What I was referring to was a change in (roughly speaking) how many phaser procs can stack on a target. From what I can recall it was done to avoid the rapid subsystem shutdowns possible when taking phaser fire from multiple sources. I'm not referring to a recent change. The challenge is finding the references to said changes as the years go by. I used to make more of an effort to stay on top of things. Then S13 happened.
