Good sportsmanship...no. but you are going back to feelings. The smart kids...the ones that are really intetested in the game however will take the opportunity to ask questions and probably get better at the game for it instead of whining.
If you dispute the need for good sportsmanship, I've nothing more to say.

I don't know where you get this concept but no its not the same at all.

First of all Red Alerts are not harder than DSEs in any way, its exactly the same NPCs. Secondly a child playing against Lebron is nothing in any way similar to two adults sitting at a keyboard playing a video game. The child has no possible way to equal Lebron physically. The two adults at the keyboard have exactly the same potential. No matter what the child does he can never equal Lebron, equalling any player at any keyboard is possible for any other player.

No item, no skill in this game, no matter where its from, is "must have", any level of performance is possible for any player. A player with all the "superspecial toys" can be outperformed by an utter F2P scrub. There are no big kids, no little kids here, we are all equal, and I refuse to disrespect my fellow players by acting as if they can't do something I can.

I can solo Red Alerts, DSEs, probably half of the old Borg STFs and I'm a non-parsing, intentionally off meta build, player who is not not on any DPS league chart.
I'm not talking about the level of difficulty of the DSE, but the level of equipment available to the player who enters it.

As you said: the child can never equal Lebron. And what I'm saying, is that a fresh Lt in a Miranda with two phaser arrays and a photon torpedo, maybe not even with consoles, simply cannot match the output of a Fleet Admiral with a [High Ship of Your Choice] with a loadout of Epic Mk XIV gear. They just can't do it.

Yes, a good player with a scrub ship, can do better than a bad player with a scrub ship, but even a mediocre player with a Good Ship, is going to out DPS the player with the scrub ship.

DSEs are open to them (Low rank players) where Red Alerts are not, so the idea is that they be able to participate. Fleet Admiral PwnUrAss, has a whole host of instances which they can enter where they can get their pew pew on, at their level, without the need to go into a DSE, and steamroll other players. As I said to coldnapalm, if you dispute the need for good sportsmanship in the game, then I've nothing else to say.

Out of curiosity, I took my lvl 11 romulan into a DSE that had a max lvl command warbird in it last night, and either through following this same sort of "etiquette" or, more likely, not having the greatest of builds, I got a real opportunity to try the low level DSE experience, and let me tell ya...

...it SUCKED. Spending several minutes pecking away at targets in my slow, lightly armed T2 warbird when a high level player could have just come in and ended it all in no time for the same exp reward was awful. Maybe you think this is fun, OP, but I'm personally grateful that there are max level players out there who are willing to come in and nuke everything so that low level players can level up faster to get to the real game.

Which is your opinion... You seem to be under the impression that I'm a low-level player just because I'm advocating for them to get a fair shot at the instance. I'm not. And it doesn't work that way: I'm not g.ay, but I support equal marriage rights (different topic, but same difference)

I just look my Level 60 Fleet Admiral into a series of DSEs in a souped-up T1 Miranda: Had a fantastic time (just my opinion) and was making just as much of a contribution as one Level 60 in a Miracle Worker in one, and double the contribution, of a Level 40 in a Galaxy Class in another...

So you can get the same rewards as everyone else, with minimum effort on your part?

And as a big fan of banging folks of any and all gender identities, I salute your weird effort to derail the conversation. I don't really care what level you are, my point is that lower level people should be thanking higher level people for getting them out of low level purgatory as fast as possible.

Sick, you're better at playing badly on purpose than people playing badly on accident.

Only in STO would people complain that someone is helping others level faster.

Derail the conversation? Not at all, just highlighting that those who advocate for others, don't have to be of the group those things would be beneficial to :sunglasses: Interesting point. Not sure I agree with it, but an interesting perspective :sunglasses:

Who said anyone was playing badly? I just wanted to see if the Miranda would handle it when boosted by higher-tier gear, and it did :sunglasses:

Sorry, it just came across as "Do it for me so I don't have to...". I'm sorry if I misunderstood your tone :sunglasses:

So much this. I often look for new recruits for our fleet in DSEs and similar. Usually, there are 3 outcomes when lower level players are in with me.
    1) "OMG PPL LIKE YOU RUIN THIS GAME!!! RAAARRRRGH RAGE" <-- OP
    2) No interaction at all.
    3) or I get asked if I can help them with their build, or just answer some questions about the game - which I never turn down.

Reaction 1 requires assumptions about the higher level player that are just plain wrong. Frankly, it's OP's arrogance in this regard that's annoyed so many here. Over the years on STO, it's clear to me that the number of helpful players far outweighs the unhelpful; you need only ask.

TLDR: OP is a whiny busybody trying to control how others play the game. Move along, nothing to see.
