Hey folks,

On Tuesday, October 17, all Cryptic games will undergo extended maintenance starting at 5am PT and scheduled to end at 12pm PT. (When is this for you? ). During this time, Star Trek Online will be unavailable across all platforms. There are no patch notes for this maintenance. Any relevant updates will be posted on this thread.

Hopefully iy will fix the fact that we're not getting events we're supposed to on XBOX.....like the Tholian Red alert last week or Hearts and Minds, which is still on the in-game calender.

My only issue is why wait? PC users are not getting access to portions of the serve/game today. We PC users are who got this game to start and expand but I feel forgotten... For those like me that experience this, I need not log on again until this is fixed. What is the benefit of waiting? None for the users.

Next time you or any ARC leaders ask why are people leaving, let them know this kind of experience that makes me think I can find a different game that responds to my needs better. As a PC user I have crash problems with your code, serve updates that don't update for me and release events I don't get to participate in at the time everyone else does... Just a few reasons to look at battle front II to fill my gaming needs.

When is the last time any bonus was given to the users that helped start all this??????

Fingers crossed that this "bigger" patch will finally fix my account to where all my characters are receiving the correct & same veteran experience boost bonuses.

I know this is probably wishful thinking on my part but I hope they fix turbolifts on consoles. I'd love to walk around my ship.

This is probably just server/network maintenance as it affects ALL games.

As I stated, just hardware/network maintenance, so no Notes.

It's hardware maintenance. This is done on a planned schedule separately from any STO software patches, which we were given plenty of notice for. What exactly is your problem here, besides an excess of entitlement?

Seven hours of maintenance and you would think/hope they could actually fix something in those hours, but I highly doubt it!

Unable to donate singular provisions to the colony projects or coffer, broken since launch.
collecting omega mini game still broken.
onboard doff missions not refreshing hourly in and around the new colony sectors, still broken.
Some Doff chained missions still unobtainable since AoY launch.
and countless other bugs still not fixed.

At this point you have to wonder, what are they actually fixing, because to me it seems the captain is drunk at the wheel!

Actually Arc is down as well. So this is likely the main reason. It's PWE more so than Cryptic.

As a player I find it inconvenient.

As someone who was in IT for thirty years, I think it's great Cryptic doesn't abuse their employees.

It's a game service, not AMEX or Amazon. Go for a walk, go meet someone cute for coffee, call your parents and chat.

Also update AntiVirus on your PC (and start the scan), make some maintaiance, get your wife out to restaurant... get your pet to vet for check-in...
    ...
and many other things you did not have normally time for, cause you were too busy playing STO

It's not abuse, it's part of doing business. There's a mindset difference in people who care about their customers vs. people who don't. What do I know about it, though, I'm only a customer service manager for one of the top hospitality groups in the nation.

In the restaurant industry we also have to do hardware maintenance like replacing ovens and laying new tile in the kitchen. However, we are smart enough NOT to inconvenience our customers while doing this...in other words, we do it at night, while we're closed, so that people can still come and eat uninterrupted. Would you want to eat at my place with a construction crew doing maintenance next to you? Doubt it. And I don't want to TRIBBLE off my customers by closing for lunch or dinner service, so I do it overnight. This allows me to take care of the needs of my business while minimizing the inconvenience for my customers.

Road crews do this also. They set up TONS of lights at night and actually do road construction overnight so that traffic can flow through the roads. The 24/7 grocery store up the street is doing their remodeling at night because that's when the fewest customers come in. Guess when the Wal-mart in my town does remodeling? And the mall? Yup, overnight.

Gaming companies? Throw up the middle finger and close it down during prime time, hahaha. It's just a sign of a nascent industry that has a lot of maturing to do. Or maybe modern times? A lot of companies these days are making a policy of putting their employees before their customers, especially companies that have the luxury of never having to see their customers face to face.

This game is played in many time zones and countries there is no overnight.
  • iamynaughtiamynaught Member Posts: 1,285 Arc User
Conducting repairs in the middle of the night is "easy" when you are stuck to a single time zone, like say, a physical location ala a restaurant or road. When your business is 24/7 and it's worldwide, ANY time you decide to conduct repairs you will tick some folks off. That is why some companies keep metrics to see when the fewest amount of people are using the service and conduct repairs then.

Also, this is not a Cryptic only thing, this is Perfect World doing the repairs. Every single Perfect World game is also down, not just Cryptic and its 3 games.

I'm willing to bet that other internet companies also take their services down when they need to conduct repairs. The difference being, some of the bigger companies can afford to run several separate server farms that they don't actually go offline, but they probably do suffer some traffic issues and cannot handle as many customers as they normally would.

It's 7 hours out of one day. Do I wish I could have been in game during this time? Yes I do. It's just not such a huge deal that I need to complain about it.

In this era of high availability and virtualization there is plenty of tools to play around to deliver uninteruptable service. Even ancient applications can be under maintenance for a short period.

Communication is the most problematic issue. They fail to update the players ("customers") about their progress and the reason they have to extend their window.
