According to this tweet the answer should be yes..
Next time you or any ARC leaders ask why are people leaving, let them know this kind of experience that makes me think I can find a different game that responds to my needs better. As a PC user I have crash problems with your code, serve updates that don't update for me and release events I don't get to participate in at the time everyone else does... Just a few reasons to look at battle front II to fill my gaming needs.
When is the last time any bonus was given to the users that helped start all this??????
l don't know.
l really don't know what l'm about to say, except l have a feeling about it.

I'll cross my fingers and toes for you.
Yep. They do this every once in a while.
Winter events with major lag issues is not fun...

It's hardware maintenance. This is done on a planned schedule separately from any STO software patches, which we were given plenty of notice for. What exactly is your problem here, besides an excess of entitlement?
This is totally going on my workout music playlist.
Unable to donate singular provisions to the colony projects or coffer, broken since launch.
collecting omega mini game still broken.
onboard doff missions not refreshing hourly in and around the new colony sectors, still broken.
Some Doff chained missions still unobtainable since AoY launch.
and countless other bugs still not fixed.
At this point you have to wonder, what are they actually fixing, because to me it seems the captain is drunk at the wheel!
I can see it now...

Middle of the night for whom? I'm guessing you are American lol.... it's just the techs making America great again (j/k)
Actually Arc is down as well. So this is likely the main reason. It's PWE more so than Cryptic.
As someone who was in IT for thirty years, I think it's great Cryptic doesn't abuse their employees.
It's a game service, not AMEX or Amazon. Go for a walk, go meet someone cute for coffee, call your parents and chat.
...
and many other things you did not have normally time for, cause you were too busy playing STO
In the restaurant industry we also have to do hardware maintenance like replacing ovens and laying new tile in the kitchen. However, we are smart enough NOT to inconvenience our customers while doing this...in other words, we do it at night, while we're closed, so that people can still come and eat uninterrupted. Would you want to eat at my place with a construction crew doing maintenance next to you? Doubt it. And I don't want to TRIBBLE off my customers by closing for lunch or dinner service, so I do it overnight. This allows me to take care of the needs of my business while minimizing the inconvenience for my customers.
Road crews do this also. They set up TONS of lights at night and actually do road construction overnight so that traffic can flow through the roads. The 24/7 grocery store up the street is doing their remodeling at night because that's when the fewest customers come in. Guess when the Wal-mart in my town does remodeling? And the mall? Yup, overnight.
Gaming companies? Throw up the middle finger and close it down during prime time, hahaha. It's just a sign of a nascent industry that has a lot of maturing to do. Or maybe modern times? A lot of companies these days are making a policy of putting their employees before their customers, especially companies that have the luxury of never having to see their customers face to face.
Also, this is not a Cryptic only thing, this is Perfect World doing the repairs. Every single Perfect World game is also down, not just Cryptic and its 3 games.
I'm willing to bet that other internet companies also take their services down when they need to conduct repairs. The difference being, some of the bigger companies can afford to run several separate server farms that they don't actually go offline, but they probably do suffer some traffic issues and cannot handle as many customers as they normally would.
It's 7 hours out of one day. Do I wish I could have been in game during this time? Yes I do. It's just not such a huge deal that I need to complain about it.
Losing faith in humanity, one person at a time.
Communication is the most problematic issue. They fail to update the players ("customers") about their progress and the reason they have to extend their window.
