What is the Arc Client?
Install Arc

Random Game Wipe?

I was just wondering if anyone else had to reinstall the entire game? On log in today, Arc had an "Install" button instead of the "Launch" button. The game is now reinstalling 21 GB of files. I didn't initiate a game file delete, so I'm wondering if this happened to anyone else as part of the game updates or something. I hope my account/items are all still intact.

Only time I've ever used arc is to input codes for freebies.

I've always run the game launcher off the shortcut and never had the need to use arc otherwise.

If the suggestion in that other thread doesn't work. Try to find the original install location and open cryptic game launcher (an exe file) and see if that works. There is an option to force verify that you may or may not need to use.

If it works then feel free to give arc the boot it deserves and make yourself a desktop shortcut.

Thanks for the information. I didn't have any backup files, so I'm halfway into reinstalling the files.

STO and all Arc Games were installed to a Perfect World folder in Programs Files (x86) in the past. Now they are being installed without being placed as subfolders in a Perfect World folder. Arc has changed the file locations so I guess that caused the need to install. Check to see if there is a Perfect World folder in your Programs (x86). That could be a backup to use now. Otherwise I would delete the Perfect World folder unless you have other games in there you have not installed yet.

If thats the case then whoever implemented it into arc needs a hefty slap for not thinking that people might already have games installed and forced the download rather than either remembering the existing install locations or not bothering to copy the existing game to the new place.

A launcher platform to launch a launcher from has always struck me as pointless, this just reinforces it.

I'll be sticking with my old reliable standalone.

Just a thought, no doubt a bit late, but if you toggle on demand patching you'll get into the game faster. Downside is that every transition into a mission or zone will take longer as files are got. Upside is you'll be able to keep on top of dil refining etc and switch it off to get the game fully updated later on.

Curious. I have Champions, Neverwinter, STO, and Star Conflict all installed via Arc (My standalone sto copy is on an external that has no cords atm) and they all appear as their own game names in C:\Program Files (x86). I'm not sure what wrong with the OP install directories.

I installed STO from Steam and then set up my Shortcut to point directly to the 'Star Trek Online.exe'.

i keep the original cryptic installer, i lost it at one point but someone kindly pointed me to a link where i could get it again, that was some time ago.

The ARC DRM platform used to take a lot of memory resources making game play difficult, i have no problem with the platform any more but it's just another few more clicks to get through and a extra drain on my limited connection speed i can't really afford.

Edit: Just remembered something else, there was chat a while back of ARC being the only place to install and play STO, no cryptic launcher or through steam. At the time i was glad to find out that this plan never came to be.

Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
