I received an email yesterday telling me that I placed as a runner up in the cruise sweepstakes. I was excited, it wasn't a top prize, mind you but it was a win never the less. Or so I thought. What did I win? Was it something that would be nice to have in game? Nope. Was it something useful? Nope. It was a T1 ship that I already owned and a ton of junk that I couldn't even vendor for EC or share with any other toon on my account.
If it had of been an infinity prize pack where I could choose my own prize, I would have been happy. But no, they picked the prize and for a player that has been with them for going on 4 years, they didn't do a very good job of picking. Needless to say, that is the absolute last time I fall for that. Never again. I hope that someone else who won that prize is happy with it, I really do. But it left a sour taste in my mouth.

You won something and got it for free. It's the thought of winning and receiving that gift that counts.
What did you expect? Did you read the rules of the competition?
Stop being so damned entitled and be grateful to them for picking you as a winner. A lot of people didn't win anything, do you see them complaining....
The other rewards are claimable to ONE toon, so best to save it till you make a new one so they get the gear boxes every 10 levels and make better use of the XP boost.
I agree it's not a spectacular prize, but it's free and only took a couple minutes to enter so YAY!

Probably because they don't care about anything but the best shiny. If you already got it, then offer it to someone who DOESN'T have it. I did that with the Mirror Danube I won in a drawing on the Book of Face. Wanted one of the big 26th Century Dreads but got the secondary runabout. Already had it, so I gave that code to a friend who could use it.
Next time, if you don't want the prize they are giving away, don't enter. I won the runner up prize too. A ship I already own, an xp boost that really does me no good as all my toons are lvl 60, and gear packs that also are no good to me. Guess what ? I didn't come in the forums and gripe about it, I just arranged for someone who can actually use that stuff to get it.
^this
Actually all I got was an email from the cruise company confirming my interest and assigning me to a newsletter I had to unsubscribe from
Well, you weren't supposed to EAT it...
I don't even have or pay with dollars. And I wouldn't have 1800 of them anyway
At least you have your ship OP
Guess cry babies are gonna be cry babies. Rules and the prizes were listed right there. No use complaining about it.
If you got runner up and got a code for a T1 ship you already own, give it to a friend. Who knows, They might not have it yet.
I just banked it.
I don't have any characters below 60 either, but I'm planning on cashing it in if they do another recruitment event. That way I can get the rewards on top of the rewards for the event. I'm hoping it will make the sludge through the missions a little less painful.
So, someone walks up to you on the street, hands you a shiny piece of excrement, and says "Congratulations! You won!" Then someone else wondering by sees that you're disgusted, and says "Oh for crying out loud! ... It's the thought that counts!", what is your reaction?
The rules said nothing about it being Tier 1. In fact, I could have sworn I read something that said it was Tier 6 (although I imagine I'm mistaken). If I had known it was Tier 1, I wouldn't have signed up for the contest, and let someone who didn't already have 8 level 50+ characters enjoy the prize. Now it's claimed on my account because I didn't know before the fact that it was a Tier 1 that I didn't need, so I can't give it away to someone who needs it.
The reality is that PWE and Cryptic should have given better information about what we were winning.
Harassing winners of the contest who are unhappy that they were not given accurate information about the prizes before entering is not going to help in any way.
Ok, so you used the code thinking it was a T6 and yet right in the e-mail, it stated that it was the T1 version......Yet, you are complaining that the code is going to waste. I am beginning to doubt if people can actually read nowadays.
It's more likely that people are seeing "You Win!" and immediately cash in not reading the fine print. That is why I read the e-mail's fine print BEFORE cashing in the code. And that will explain why I gave my code to a friend, since I read the fine print and found out I already bought the ship long ago. And if you read the rules, you would have read that it was a 23rd century constitution cruiser. They never said anything about it being T6 or T1. Which is why you go into those thinking it's a T1 unless SPECIFICALLY stated in the contest rules. If it states in the rules that it's a T6 version and all you get is a T1, then it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I seriously doubt the pencil pushers would let something like that happen.
I read it, and assumed it was a typo since nowhere else in the contest info/rules/announcements/etc. did it say that the ship was Tier 1, and I had thought I had read it was Tier 6 when I signed up for the contest.
If you go back through the contest info/rules/announcements/etc. there is currently no mention of what Tier the ship is. I also can't find the contest page/rules cached anywhere to see if they were edited, which seems rather suspicious since Google caches everything.
I also think, however, that the tier was not mentioned in the original article and the wording could at least be confused with the T6 version since it definitely didn't say "TOS light cruiser" which is the in-game name for the T1 but it said something along the lines of "TOS Constitution Cruiser" so one could have assumed it was a T6 but either way, no damage done. If you don't need or want the price you just continue to exist as you did before. And again, I'll gladly take the code if you or anyone else don't want it, I'd like a T1 connie

Yup....you really are painting yourself in a good light here pal.
You entered a competition to win something and you won a secondary prize. You should be grateful you won anything at all.
Always some entitled whiner has to come along and ruin the show by making out that they were cheated or it was unfair, blah blah blah.....
You comparison of my example to someone giving you a handful of TRIBBLE is utter nonsense because the T1 Connie is hardly something comparable. It's a decent T1 starter ship which grants access to an unending supply of TOS blue phasers for your toons. Sure it might not be the top end T6 version but it's still got it's uses.
Perhaps if you offered your T1 code to someone who might use it rather than bitching on here people might see you in a better light.
Right now you just look pitifully ridiculous.
Here's the problem with your example. You entered the contest for a shiny piece of excrement and won it... then complain you won it.
In a case like this I would assume that a mistake was made, and PWE or one of the other sponsors didn't want people to post a link to a Google cache version of the page showing it said something they weren't prepared to give.
Seriously though, I'm not saying that this happened, I'm just saying it's suspicious that there don't appear to be any cached copies of the contest information available online. Usually those cached copies only disappear by request of the website owner (although there are reasons why a third-party can request the information be taken down).
At what point did anyone say they felt cheated? I'm just trying to say that it would have been nice to know exactly what Tier the ship was before entering the contest. I just took a chance for someone else to win stuff that I don't even need. That doesn't seem fair to the other people who entered the contest, and haven't played the game before.
You guys seem to be blowing this whole topic way out of proportion.
Then if you don't need the code GIVE IT AWAY OR TRADE IT!!
Geeez...
Don't come in here bitching and whining about the travesty of you not getting a different prize. The rules were clear enough to the vast majority of players.
And as many secondary prize winners have posted here already, giving away an unwanted prize is the decent thing to do. Something you fail to grasp.
But please continue living in your self-entitled dream world.
That's the point, it really didn't use any of the terms the game uses for either the T1 or T6, it basically just said that you can win a constitution cruiser for Star Trek Online. So it is not entirely unbelievable people might have thought they enter for a T6 but the original article didn't really do anything for or against this expectation.

Then you clearly missed the point behind everything I have been saying. Because I mistakenly thought the ship was the Tier 6 version, I already redeemed it. Thus, code wasted. Thus, the entire reason I'm trying to say that the contest terms were not clear enough.
Also note that I already said this, so great job reading the first line of my post and rushing to the "Quote" button. Obviously simply disparaging someone rather than attempting to read and understand what they are saying is always the best policy.
Facts don't lie. It was made perfectly clear the day the contest was announced that it was the T1 Connie. Besides that fact there is also...
The 23rd Century Constitution-Class Cruiser has been in game for quite some time now, as in several months as it was added in game with the advent of Agents of Yesterday and has always been T1. There has never been a T6 ship called 23rd Century Constitution-Class Cruiser.
So, a ship that has been in game for a long time and has always been T1 is listed as the prize and ambassaddorkael specifically stated it was a T1 the day the contest started so, yeh
That's all I've ever seen them posting. Some people can't seem to be happy unless they're complaining about something.
So if I misread my lottery ticket numbers and won 5 dollar, should the lottery give me like the jackpot prize, after I complain that I possibly read my numbers wrong?
