I expect this to end up moved the Frequently Closed Threads thread come Monday, where things the community repeatedly wants Cryptic to address get shoved into and, for the most part, ignored.
<logic>I mean, seriously... Cryptic wouldn't need a Frequently Created Threads thread as an excuse to stifle discussion of certain topics if they... I don't know... Actually DID something about what those threads are being created frequently for.</logic>
Except that, this topic isn't listed there, so have at it.
LOL... Touche!
I guess maybe topics requesting more Romulan / KDF elements aren't as prolific as some of us think... or wish... they are.
<logic>Maybe that means there really ISN'T enough interest to warrant allocating resources to providing them.</logic>
or, that the interested parties have given up after years of neglect followed by token representation. after a certain amount of time 'cryptic watching' you learn that some things just aren't going to happen, and this is one of those.
I'm a big fan of Klingons and outside of the lack of a T6 Vor'cha and playable K'vort, I'm happy with the Klingon experience in the game. Could it be better? Could it be more Klingon centric? Sure but it isn't. And I'm fine with that.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.
If Cryptic did this they could control which items went on the list, and we'd still have claims of favoritism when our pet project never shows up. Like my science Hegh'ta. It must, in my opinion, be a community iniative rather than a Cryptic initiative to get things rolling.
Perhaps if Cryptic has pet projects which require funding they could do as suggested. What we need is a way to convince them to do what they don't want to do.
Also, I specifically wanted a pay-for-results situation where I buy the ship ahead of its being built, not a 'fund our construction' project which would yield a ship I could buy after I or others had already invested in its creation.
I was not aware of STO until it went F2P. The first time I heard of it was while playing World Of Tanks beta. (Good times!) But within weeks of F2P I was here and as soon as I could I rolled a Klink.
But however much history can tell us about how we got here, that really isn't important in going forward. And this is what we should be debating. It doesn't matter why Cryptic doesn't like Klingons. (I think it's our natural aroma.) What matters is learning what it takes to convince them to work towards the fulfilment of the promise the faction embodies but has never realized.
So long as we look in the mirror and lament the injustices of the past we can never move forward. Moving forward invalidates the injustices of the past. Getting over this hurdle is key if we are to ever get beyond useless complaints.
At that same time, the ONLY way for a KDF to level, was PvP, which was launched incomplete, and that was further sabotaged when Cryptic let Feds do their PvP without having to fight KDF players (FvF, it was a thing.)
Basically, alll that KDF had, were some races and some ships. No storyline, no tutorial, and no opponents to level against in the one activity they had available.
not true, there were repeatable patrols you could do and exploration cluster missions. Annoyingly boring, but they were there.
the lower tier ships didn't make it to market until after Legacy of frikking Romulus and the unlocking of "you can start as Klingon now that we've made a mess of it!"
Actually. NO. They were hidden in the store during the time period when KDF players had to start at 25. Like I said, I started playing KDF back when you started at 8. I noticed when they got hidden. Why did they get hidden? IIRC that was before the special abilities were made into consoles. Thus, at the time, they were weaker than your starter ship.
And seriously... the basic idea of carriers as a faction specific thing was idiotic from the start.
My lord, your logic is flawless. However, my point was to demonstrate that it could, not to dictate how it should be done.
In your examples you require someone at Cryptic to devote time and effort to something they deem a lost cause. Why should Cryptic spend a second of their time for something they know won't make them any money?
If someone knows how to set up a 'kickstarter' for the KDF, that might help Cryptic decide to do it. I don't have the skills to set it up, but for a Science Hegh'ta I'd take a chance on investing. I know others have other desires for Cryptic's KDF time. Perhaps several simultaneous pledge drives could be issued for specifics and a 'general' fund for more generic development of the faction could be done.
But let me know when you set it up because I've got $50 earmarked for my T6U Science BoP.
hmm... so the Naj'sov and Kor aren't good enough for you?
Already outlined one a couple of pages back, but here's a revised version.
Instead of posting an 'I want Item X' thread, follow these steps:
1) Define what you want in as vague or as detailed a manner as you like.
2) Acquire half the Zen you would spend for a similar item in tbe C-store.
3) Create a Pledge Drive thread in which the OP details what he wants to buy.
4) Declare that you also have half the purchase price in your bank, where you will maintain it until your desired product is made.
5) Encourage others who want the item to follow the above steps as well.
6) Maintain a running talley of pledges to show Cryptic exactly how much players want your item in clear, unambiguous terms: dollars.
7) Ask a moderator to remove or relocate off topic or argumentative posts from the pledge thread to prevent its becoming useless for your original purpose.
8) If/when your item is made, buy it.
As a Boy Scout I participated in pledge drives for various purposes, but never ran one. Someone with more experience in this, or who has done the research, should be able to use the idea presented to create a better version for actual use.
EXAMPLE:
Pledge Drive for Tier 6U Hegh'ta Science Raider
Requirements:
Must be a 'true' science ship. Sensor Scan, Subsystem Targeting, etc.
Must be a 'true' raider. Flanking bonus, battle cloak, etc.
Must reflect the aesthetics of the Hegh'ta BoP, especially in the Honor Guard shield.
Preferences:
Retain Universal Seating of a BoP
Add Pilot and Intel as primary and secondary specialist seating.
Compromise between hull HP and shield HP, so possibly 1.15 shield mod and 30-40k hull.
As the OP I pledge that I have (listed assets) set aside for this item, and will maintain that amount in my account until the item is made available. Further, I pledge to devote game time to beta test said item when it becomes available on Tribble.
One more thing: Advertising. Before the first pledge thread is made the playerbase must become familiar with what you are doing. Simply posting a thread that gets lost in the clutter then declaring that the idea doesn't work only insures failure. Like anything apparently new it would need to be explained over time, and re-explained several times over, and in multiple formats, such as the Beta Chat channel or Reddit, or wherever the cool kids hang out for their cigarette smoking and makeout sessions these days.

you've been reading some of my old posts, haven't you?
there are some significant hurdles to that which would need to be overcome.
Well, if you want to sell Klingons you have to play to their strengths, and they are THE preeminent warrior race of the game.

OMG!!!
Poor federation...
We Klingons will rise again and woop yer behinds, claim our rightful spot as conquerors of the universe, as our ancestors had forseen this!
But serious, who knows what this man will throw at us: Borg, Fed, Romulan, Orion...
The above ship alone should say a thing or two about this designer.
I already asked him, if he had a super sleek, to Star Trek even futuristic but extremely functional and minimalist Klingon Battle Bridge.
It should feature all (and ONLY) functional things, no extras, no luxury, preferable black with red lines.
Hopefully he will draw something out, if he does... I so cannot wait to see the result...
Fingers crossed, folks.

They don't need to do anything Klingon-centric. Or Romulan-centric. Or Federation-centric.
What they need to do is STO-centric which INCLUDES UFP, KDF and NRR. They need to start treating every aspect of STO as if it is a viable part of STO and constantly be growing and expanding upon it, so it actually WILL be viable.
Concerning the Romulans... there is a whole big chapter of the New Romulan Republic storyline that has yet to be told. The building of the new capitol. They could take the mechanics that make fleet holdings work and apply them to a public hub that anyone can participate in the construction and maintenance of. It could be a Bajor-scale city map that starts with three buildings:
1 - the Federation Embassy on one side of the main street, near the gate that leads to the New Romulas staging area
2 - the Klingon Embassy across the street from the Federation one
3 - the Romulan Command Center at the center, where the Romulan characters currently go to when they beam down to New Romulus
Federation characters cannot enter the Klingon Embassy or the Romulan Command Center unless in a NRR or KDF character's group. Same restrictions would apply with the other factions and their headquarters as well.
The UFP/KDF Embassies and NRR command center could have a console or NPC added that ties into the construction and maintenance projects for the capitol city. There could also be Romulan foreman NPCs at each construction site in the city that will accept resource contributions from individuals. Using the Embassy or command center to contribute would earn contribution credit for one's fleet. contributing via NPC forman would earn you individual credit. This way everyone can participate be they member of a fleet or not, and be recognized accordingly.
It could be made to take quite a long time to build the city. And once built there could be many daily activities to keep things going. A joint security detail using UFP, KDF and NRR security duty officers to patrol the city to keep out Tal Shiar and Tholian invaders. If security becomes too lax for too long, tholians or Tal Shiar hostiles could start spawning in the city streets, like they do in the adventure zone ares for New Romulus. Many other events tied to maintenance could occur, all themed around managing a city.
On a UFP note, I would like to see some of those planets we can beam down to that have absolutely nothing to do on them like Andoria to actually get a similar treatment. Let's say that a major Andorian underground city suffers a devastating catastrophe. In the spirit of cooperation and solidified relations, the UFP/KDF/NRR alliance pitches in to help the Andorians rebuild. Part of this public hub would be KDF and NRR Andorian Embassies. They would not be fleet holdings but would be sub-sets of the Andorian City that can be contributed to and grown offering NRR and KDF specific services on Andoria, a Federation world.
The end result of both the New Romulus capitol and the Andorian City would be a player hub that would be spectacular to behold that players who participated in its construction and contribute to its maintenance can all look at and say, "I'm a part of this!" I'm not leaving the KDF out. I'm sure there's some city in the Klingon Empire that needs rebuilding after the Iconian War to the same effect.
Each of these cities would be long-term player-driven public hubs that go from pretty much nothing to bustling centers of activity. And they could all be used as delivery points for new official mission content themed for the faction in question but open to all...
If I were calling the shots, that is one of the things I would do.
Actually, I think it would be great to have some cross-Faction social hubs accessible only at endgame similar to what you're proposing. San Francisco on Earth with Klingon and Romulan Embassies, a section of First City with Federation and Romulan embassies, and the New Romulan capitol with Federation and Klingon embassies. The embassies could just reuse the existing Fleet Embassy holding maps.

A Klingon Civil War is a logical development from where we are now, both in STO and in Trek after the TNG movies era. That's probably why 'The Great Houses Incursion' into Fed and Romulan space is in my fanfic. I'm still not sure how it ends, but several Great Houses have challenged the power of the High Council by asserting their autonomy and declaring the High Council to be corrupt and therefore illegitimate. Ripples from the Incursion have just begun to spread as the remnant of the RSE and the Federation deploy to meet this new threat.
Plus, Admiral T'Nae projects an 87.65% chance that the RSE will turn on the Federation, probably after the Federation has suffered heavy losses against the Klingon fleets. But she never did trust Romulans.
I expect this to end up moved the Frequently Closed Threads thread come Monday, where things the community repeatedly wants Cryptic to address get shoved into and, for the most part, ignored.

But... They were never as many as their were Feddies. And there will never be.
Now, it's not totally horrible for the KDF or ROM fans. Obviously cryptic thinks the sales they have warrant cross-faction packs at least. But more is not going to happen.
And there will probably never be faction-specific story content again. But that would probably be the case even if there was an even split in ROM, KDF and FED "interested parties", since making a mission costs a fixed amount of resources - splitting that between 3 factions is an ineffective use of resources. Many other MMOs seem to have moved towards a united storyline. (Look at TOR... From its 8 character class stories and 2 faction stories it condensed to a single united Sith/Republic vs common foe story.)

Well, I wasn't suggesting that we lock out FED and ROM players from a Klingon themed story arc, but shining a spotlight on the Klingons for awhile could reinvigorate the Faction, because time and effort could be put in to refurbishing old and introducing new Klingon game assets.

Nothing is ever going to even up the "faction" numbers. So how to make klingon stuff profitable and worth creating? Let everyone buy it regardless of origin story. More people allowed to buy -> more people buying -> more profit.
It's silly thinking klingon stuff is somehow less popular than all the other random alien stuff. Klingons are the most famous non-Fed race in the franchise, their stuff should if anything be more popular. If only they weren't artificially restricted to a niche market.
The "factions" are origin stories. They stop making any difference in the plot around Delta Rising, after which we're all in the Alliance together and you could barely tell there were "factions" at all. The gameplay would be better to treat them the same way.

What is considered "inside" entries?
Who's considered to be "in"?

Warpangel, that's just continuing what they've been doing, it doesn't solve any problems, but it does create new ones. (Cryptic relies on Lockbox keys, putting stuff you either have to buy keys to get, or buy from someone who bought keys to get, into 'account unlock' status doesn't solve any problems at Cryptic. It creates NEW problems.)
Counterargument is simple: Stop Homogenizing the factions, and **** or get off the pot regarding whether this is a multi-faction game, or a single faction game.
IOW either develop the factions and stop fretting, or eliminate and delete them and toss everything into the Federation bin.
Assumed: Minority factions will always be minorities. Fine, if you MUST have multiple factions, give them a relevant reason to exist in the game. Specific mechanics, specific unit types, specific storyline elements, make these relevant, and even if it's always going to be a minority, it will at least be a minority that contributes to the quality of the game as a whole, rather than an embarrassment you're trying to forget.
Relevance doesn't mean a token NPC who's t here to make the player character or the Federation look smart, either. Relevant means that while you can single-faction your way through, you won't get everything, or even the best things, you have to actually play ALL the factions/sub-factions to get everything, to get the full storyline, to get the best rewards, etc. etc.
Make Factions relevant and numbers will take care of themselves.
this is what I said.
You made it a lot clearer though, Patrickngo.
Since they made these factions, they "must" put in as well the time, the effort, and resources equally as given to the Federation.
Now, I said "must" with quote marks, I don't want them to be precisely equal, I just want some serious time spent on the two factions, more than on the Federation faction.
They both deserve that.
Klingons don't get drunk.
They just get less sober.
And there will probably never be faction-specific story content again. Maybe have the player go to Grethor looking for the clone of Kahless? that is an interesting map. so interesting that I once went there with one of my Romulans.
If you truly wish to change minds in the Cryptic development team you have to demonstrate that their decisions were wrong, and that chocolate, in spite of their history and their metrics, can be profitable. Cryptic has no incentive to do this: they already have more work than they can do without another faction worth of problems.
So, history aside, prejudices and past injustices aside, lost opportunities and paths not taken aside, where do you want to go from here? If you want to change minds you have to show how it benefits the person whose mind you want to change.
We're abviously at cross purposes, here. I've been explaing what CRYPTIC needs to do, to make the Klink more appealing; and you keep talking what the PLAYERS must do, in order to get Cryptic to work on the KDF again.
On the other hand, if this is a thread composed solely for a venting session, job well done, reward issued, time to move on.
No need to get p*ssy. Personally, I don't care for the KDF one iota. I can nonetheless empathize with others who invested in the Klink a lot, and now feel abandoned. Maybe Roms shouldn't have been part of the topic title, even, as Roms are doing just fine. It's really the KDF that got the shaft over time.

Well, I wasn't suggesting that we lock out FED and ROM players from a Klingon themed story arc, but shining a spotlight on the Klingons for awhile could reinvigorate the Faction, because time and effort could be put in to refurbishing old and introducing new Klingon game assets.

"I was here before you, I will be here after you are gone. I am here, regardless of your acknowledgement or acceptance..." - The Truth
You got to be kidding, right?
What is considered "inside" entries?
Who's considered to be "in"? this is what I said.
They just get less sober.

We're abviously at cross purposes, here. I've been explaing what CRYPTIC needs to do, to make the Klink more appealing; and you keep talking what the PLAYERS must do, in order to get Cryptic to work on the KDF again.
