new heavy cruisers please?

zantetzouzantetzou Member Posts: 3 Arc User
The current set of "heavy cruiser" are basically just normal cruisers.
Can we get a line of ACTUAL heavy cruisers. the typhoon would be a perfect ship for this new class of tactical orientated battlecruisers.
If not can we at least get the typhoon as a cruiser of its own, its been long sought after and it would be well received.

edit: i mean this version of the typhoon latest?cb=20120616185021

TECHNICALLY... the Typhoon's playable already... in the form of the Command Battlecruisers. If you look at the style, it is clear the Typhoon was the inspiration. Quad nacelles set in a traditional dual nacelle configuration, large saucer, integrated secondary hull.

I'm sure its possible to kitbash the thing to look even more like the older Typhoon, just with a better model. Pick a rounder saucer, upswept pylons, then pick and choose your secondary hull and nacelles.

Resolute Class?? Or don't you want your Heavy Crusier to be 'Advanced'? ;)

I would not mind just seeing the existing heavy cruiser we have updated, as well as upgraded to tier six. I mean we have seen the light cruiser bundle just announced, and so it would make sense that sometime we might see a update to the heavy cruiser as well. Also I think the heavy cruiser looks quite different from most of the other cruisers, and would actually be an interesting ship to fly, while also keeping a still distinct federation vibe to the ship style. Also when I said heavy cruiser I mean the below heavy cruiser of the Cheyenne/Dakota/Stargazer verities, which do have some similarities to the command battle-cruisers.

    Cheyenne

    Dakota

I just looked it up on STOWiki. It almost seems like they are trying to retroactively remove the Typhoon Class from existence. I have to agree, in my eyes, it was, when it existed, ugly.

See The Twilight Zone episode 'And When the Sky was Opened'.

I never did understand the appeal of that ship. Compared to what we have now... its kinda... blocky.

I would really love an upgraded stargazer, constellation, Cheyenne, Dakota, at some point.

Using the T5 MU on my AoY until Thursday when I pick up the new light cruiser, but I would really like for her to have both the light cruiser and heavy cruiser.
Thanks for the Advanced Light Cruiser, Allied Escort Bundles, Jem-Hadar Light Battlecruiser, and Mek'leth

I would have loved to see all original launch skins get transferred to Mirror Starfleet (players can keep them of course) and NPC starfleet gets upgraded to refits/T6 and then when the MU event is on it's two eras fighting each other pig-2.gif

Technically not even in the slightest. The Command Cruisers are Excelsior inspired. They share one thing alone with the Typhoon, the number of nacelles. Their built up deflectors, steeped hull, distinct necks and saucers and pylon configuration are all excelsior not Typhoon. It is impossible to get anything even close to the Typhoon using any parts of the Command Cruisers.

The Assault Cruisers are as close as we can get to their shape (obviously as it uses parts from the Noble).

I'm sure Sovereign, Galaxy, Galaxy-X, Eclipse, Guardian, Vengeance, Command Cruisers aren't Light Cruisers at all.

I happen to like the old Typhoon model. Sure, it was graphically challenged, but so was TOS Enterprise.

I also liked the USS Titanic... err, Jupiter. It was awesome, partly because it was so massively ugly. Sort of like bulldogs can be so ugly they become cute.

In both cases Cryptic opted to retcon the old designs away rather than give them updated skin textures. In my opinion they could have had both old and new designs side by side in game. There was no additional work required to keep the old ones and it would have required no additional work on the new ones to bring them online with the old ones. But I wasn't given a vote, and would probably have been outvoted anyway.

There is one issue I see with the op for the most part, which is they are using both the terms of a "heavy cruiser" an of a "battle-cruiser" which pertains to two separate classes of ships. Though the Typhoon I could see as a heavy variant of the battle-cruiser class of ships, much like we have so many sub-variants of the cruiser class ranging from the light cruisers to the heavy an even the support an exploration variants as well.

Not by STO 'canon'. There is no T6 Constitution in Star Trek canon either.

We have to go by what Cryptic is providing and labeling ships in-game even if completely out-of-wack.

These new ships are Advanced Light Crusiers or Advanced Light Battlecrusiers. Why a 'Light' Crusier would have the same number of weapons as a Crusier, Heavy Crusier, or Battlecrusier, I don't know. Why a 'Light' Battlecrusier would have less Inertia than a regular Battlecrusier, clueless. Why a supposed 'Light' Crusier would want to Attract Fire with generally less Hull (but not by much), who can say.

We are stuck with Cryptic's classification.

T5 and T6 cruisers typically have 4/4 weapons.
Also its a cruiser with PILOT seating.

According to Cryptic's classification the prime Connie is a (Temporal) Light Cruiser, and the Kelvin Connie is a Heavy (Command) Cruiser.
