april 1 i had an issue getting into star trek online, after finally getting in, every time i shut down the game the computer locks up and i have to pull the power cord and the battery, windows locks up sooo badly that nothing works, this continued for a week. have conducted virus and malware scans none have been usefull. in the last 5 days i have uninstalled the game completely and prior to that the first week of april i had uninstalled and reinstalled the game as a possible solution, none have helped.
although windows appears to be running smoothly since i removed star trek online i have noted where some of the programs get sluggish from time to time which didnt begin till i had to hard crash my computer. anyone have any suggestions besides reinstall windows 10 which is on the schedule for as soon as i have time. starting in safe mode AND doing a force verify after installing the 2nd time was also done, with no success.
any help anyone could give me would be much appreciated, 2 yrs of work on this game i dont wanna throw it away cause the game all of a sudden blows up my machine after an update on the 30th of march.

Probably video drivers, try to update them, also, try tu reinstall direct x runtime, just in case, check the disk for errors...The forces of darkness are upon us!0

This just happen also on the wife's computer. It is messing with the Windows 7 OS for sure. We have advance care pro and nothing is showing up but it has screwed up the OS system somehow. We have the latest updates on all drivers so that's not the issue either. Though reloading direct X might be the problem if they didn't load them in the patch as older windows could have an issue. Will check on that.
Just did a run through and it's not the direct x as far as I can see, did a restore and that solved our issue but malware fighter did pick up a weird name of Net command. Will keep updating as I go through this.Post edited by sirdrakno on0 -
Is this a notebook with dual graphics?, sometimes STO gets wonky with that..The forces of darkness are upon us!0

i uninstalled star trek online a week ago and have used the computer since then without star trek online,
i have noticed that there is an issue with windows resetting after ending programs, both internet or normal.
in fact i have noted where some days i go right in and its fine, or it lags something awfull. both starting or stopping the program, however, it is not nearly as bad as it was when star trek terminated, after that it was like 30 to an hour. soon i will be installing windows again from the restore drive, and see what happens.
yes i am using a laptop it is less than 2 yrs old, with an intel 5500 graphics card, i 5 processor and 8 gb ram.
and, i have been using star trek online for like 2 yrs, even thru them turning off direct x 9, i managed to fix that defect also cause then the game wouldnt load at all. so once that was fixed, it worked ok since february and all of a sudden april 1 everything went nuts. following fridays update. and it ran fine friday, it didnt blow up till saturday.0 -
Make sure that streaming thing is ticked in the settings -[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

what this thread has helped me to realize im not the only one who has had issues with this game AND we are all good at finding our own solutions
the streaming thing and a few other things had been ticked for months till the game melted my windows april 1. but thanks for the idea. the suggestions are much appreciated, but tried them all at this point except reinstall windows from scratch. thats next.

Star Trek online launcher program is actually a browser based program. If your web browser has been infected, it will also infect STO Launcher. I suggest taking your computer to a repair shop, or to Geek Squad, and have them run a full cleaning program on it, then verify your system. Re-installing windows may not solve the problem. I hope you are not using Norton or Mcaffe, as both those programs have been broken for a long time.0

what do you suggest using for an anti virus program? i am already using spybot search and destroy also using malware bytes. and avast free. all have done me well up till now?0

update i have since reinstalled windows from scratch and the game from scratch, problem continues,
i go into my web browser and page loads lag something awfull. i reboot my machine and its back to normal.
what could the game be effecting thats causing this? i am out of ideas. and yes i did update all the drivers after reinstalling windows 10. it is on a toshiba laptop. i have friends who are on diff laptops and there still going fine. apparently whatevers wrong is only effecting certain computers/brands.0 -
final update to this thread,
the avast anti virus game mode was TRIBBLE with the settings in my computer and after the game exits it wasnt undoing it quite as much as it should and all it did was foul up my computer so it laggged something awfull till i rebooted the computer.0 -
Stop using Spybot!! You really don't need it with Win7+. It's a major drain on computer resources and it will impact on STO. You can at least disable it whilst running STO if you really want to keep using it. I use AVG Free as my anti-virus and I've never had a problem with it."You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.0

Locate your localdata file and delete the GamePrefs.pref file. This will reset your graphics settings, but will help the game loadup better. The only problem is that the system will restore GamePrefs.pref file after a while. So you will have to keep deleting it when you notice a problem has reoccurred. If that doesn't work then something else is going on.0
