Time to start the rampant speculation on the potential turning of any number of built-in/console weapons into heavies.
And also, the whining from the cruiser and science vessel crowds that escorts are getting an 8th weapon slot.
It is a little odd...but I suppose it's easier to balance than giving escorts a new power...and fits in with the whole tactical feel. Unless something gets screwed up it definitely wont be as potent as 8 standard weapon slots on a ship.
Could be interesting to see...I doubt they will heavy weapons that can be modified by any kind of tac console (I mean like standard energy or projectiles)
On the ships looks...I really wish they showed the top of the Reman ship...it's like the got something to hide since it is the only one you can't see from the top
Is it me...or does the Ferasan one kinda look like...well...a flea? >.<

With changes to Leech/EPS and weapons power it will be interesting to see how these actually work as it will be additional drain on weapons subsystem power.

Or will it? dunno yet.

I don't think they will convert most weapon like consoles (point defence turret and Voth Spacial Charges for example) or unique weapons (bio-nueral warhead) or innate attacks (Kalsio Lance) to heavy weapons because that interacts with too many other things.
Both the Unique Weapons and Weapon like Consoles can be equipted on ships that don't have access to heavy weapons, and the, Kalsio's Lance interacts with it's Seige Mode, how would that effect say the Railgun if you put that in the Lance's place?
I guess in the case of consoles and unique weapons they could make them both Heavy and None Heavy Weapons/Consoles.
I think it would also be interesting if they made it that owning either of the Caitian or Ferasan ships would give you the ability to purchase a frigate class pet that uses either of those ship's design, and is usable on the Atrox and even other carriers.
Also, it's kinda funny: the Scimitar's construction was hidden, mostly made with what they could find and only known from Reman slaves under Shinzon, yet it was a huge, devastating ship with an advanced cloak.
And now, the Reman are free, respected and given funds and shipyards by the Alliance, yet they only make a tiny escort. With what they could do in Nemesis, I'd have expected them to build a Super Star Destroyer-like ship that'd put the Narada to shame.
I can understand it taking them awhile to make a new ship on the romulan side, most of all with a style that is quite Reman over Romulan. Also the scimitar was of Reman design, but also had help an aid from Romulan sympathisers in the military many of which were generals, so the amount of tech an resources they had was quite abit more than you might think. If you look at the fact that after the defeat of the prototype that was much heavier armed an armored (only way I can put it), and the fact that the destruction of the Romulan homeworld the capacity for either side (the empire or republic) to produce ships of any design would be heavily reduced as the resources you can use are vastly less than prior to the destruction of these events.
The Flambard, The Khopesh, and The Shamshir are all new Reman designs, based on the original T5 Scimatars, but with T6 technology, so the Remans of the Republic have already designed massive new ships with enhanced abilities that act as the Flag ship of the Republic, so I fingure a lot of the Reman's resources went into that, the rest into the Hothos, which is a powerful if smaller ship, which fills a different niche. The question is does the Hothos have an enhanced battle cloak?
And what kind of Specialization will this railgun escorts have?

I do believe they are stated as having being given a "Romulan Republic aesthetic", but were based off the Reman scimitar design. As such these ships still are actually Reman designs at their basic level, which were given more Romulan design elements to give it a much more Romulan feel comparatively to the original design.
Wow, sexy new allied-race Escorts with new mechanics that will be retroactively added to qualifying vessels? Cryptic, please stay on the roll you're on.
"I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am."
They could've done a Tellarite or Denobulan ship. Or even better, they could've made a Talarian escort.
Which begs the question: why haven't they? Are there references the art folks could start from? For example, I suspect Tellarite ships might reflect their blunt, argumentative nature: not the prettiest things out there, but when it comes to laying down fire and surviving under it, they either take the gold or come really close to it... it's the philosophy behind such iconic CAS craft like the Il-2 Sturmovik and A-10 Thunderbolt II (which latter is actually better known as the 'Warthog').
They could've done a Tellarite or Denobulan ship. Or even better, they could've made a Talarian escort.
They tried, but the assignments ended in Disaster. That's what you get for sending Vulcans deal with Tellarites and Klingons with Denobulans and Talarians.
I heard a Denobulan tried to seduce the Klingon's mate, with obviously disastrous results, and another Klingon offered Raktajino to a Talarian.

The new Heavy Weapons are also unaffected by enhancements like FAW or CSS, so will be interesting just how useful they'll be.
Well, well, looks like I'll be getting new toys for about half my toons. I own the T6 Escort Carrier pack, the Morrigu (Arbiter and Kurak are ineligible since they have Commander Engineer seats. OMG! Romulan bias!) and the Ouroboros Temporal Raider. I'm also thinking of buying the Valiant/Malem/Kor escort bundle the next time they have a sale.
T6 Dyson Destroyers with the proton cannon as a removable Heavy Weapon would be great unless they roll out a 9-pack. Then again, I'd probably just buy the most appealing Romulan one and ignore the rest. Gotta have my science monster baby D'Deridex.
I wonder how we'll obtain Heavy Weapons other than whatever defaults are in the dil store. Hopefully, there'll be options for those of us who're not in fleets.
As for the ships themselves, they look nice and the trait might be handy. I'll wait to see fuller stats before committing to buy or no buy.

Those are Battlecruiser(Arbiter and Kurak), not escorts. So ofcause they won't get it.
But the Morrigu? yikes didn't know it had a command tactical slot. Dunno at this point if it gets a heavy slot. But guess it should, since its technically an escort warbird.

I dont like to blow my nose!
BTW, these ships should be pilot escorts..
In the blog it mentions "any T6 starship" that has a Cmdr Tac seat etc., does that include ships with universal Cmdr seats?
Main contender would be the eventual T6 Tal Shiar Adapted Battlecruiser as far as I can tell.
Good to know. I wasn't entirely familiar with the ship's set up so thanks for clearing that up.

Only some Destroyers will get it, like the Veteran ships. All other Destroyers won't qualify due to having 8 weapons.
