Cosmetic (Visual tab) weapon slots

Why can't we have these? We have cosmetic visual slots for Impulse, Shields, and Deflectors for the ship looks. So why not have a cosmetic slot for weapons?

For instance, I have X weapon, but want to see blue phasers. Rather than equip blue phasers, which may or may not result in a DPS loss, in a weapon slot, I could instead slot it into a cosmetic weapon slot to see blue phasers.

Of course, we'd likely need a few limitations such as:

1. Beams can only be cosmetically replaced by beams and cannons by cannons.
2. Disabled in PvP, for obvious reasons.

So pretty please, can we have a cosmetic weapon slot? It's for color purposes and little more. Possibly even have more than one cosmetic slot, so we could have a good laugh with RAINBOW BEAMS.

This is something I've been wanting for a long time myself. Only official word I know of was around when AoY was released and Bort did an interview, one of the forum questions was about this (might have been mine actually), and he said something about it being more difficult on the technical side than shields and stuff. Hopefully it happens eventually, I'd like to be able to actually use the quantum phaser (I refuse to use different color beams on the same ship).

I've wanted this for years now.

It's annoying to have one mismatched red beam because I've equipped the kinetic cutting beam, or a blue episode reward Polaron mixed in with my classic purple ones.

Wouldn't mind more visual tabs like that.
Even a shield warp engine trail slot to go with the impulse engine trail one would be welcome.

Bullchips. way back in Beta or shortly thereafter, there was a line command that let you do that very thing. it was brushed off as a dev tool but the real reason it was removes was the PVPers were crying because they didn't know what energy type to defend against

That just changed the color of the beams iirc, a weapon cosmetic slot would completely change the sprite and, hopefully, the firing sound as well

I can completely understand why this hasn't been added in.

It would be the same as playing Call of duty, but where you could change your assault rifle or whatever name to look like a rocket launcher.

If you want PVP to work(which we know Cryptic wants to update it) you simply CANNOT allow something like changing weapons visuals.

... serious question here, but what difference does it make what weapon type your opponent is using? I can't think of any situation where that would affect which abilities you use, not to mention there are several different weapon types out there with very similar colors that could easily be mixed up

Just have the engine ignore the visual slot in PVP maps. Problem solved.

The pvp argument made sense when there were only a small number of weapon types but now there's gotta be close to 30+ types surely and many look very similar. No way you could memorise all the obscure ones if you can across them only very rarely.

The fact is this should be possible, it's just a code telling the game what visual to display, and it's one of the most requested things. They managed it with shields etc why not weapons.
Just give each vessel a single visual slot for cannons, beams and torps. Whatever you slot in each changes the look of any weapon of that type slotted on the ship.
