not everyone has diplomacy maxed out on all their alts so no, its not "just a transwarp away"
also as someone else said, it would be pretty cool for the "library computer" to get copies of the story blogs
It's not just a transwarp away for everyone, no, but it is still really easy to get there. Like stupidly easy. If you are anywhere in the Beta Quadrant you can simply use the button at the top of your mini-map to change instances and it will put you right by Sol. Then cross to Beta Quadrant and once again change instances, it will take you right to Bajor. Then you can Transwarp back to Sol.
I've been playing the game for about 2 weeks now and already figured this one out.
Congratulations.
Too bad the issue has nothing to do with "figuring it out." It's simply yet another pointless hoop to jump through for no good reason.

Ok, I get it. Telling people about a faster way to get there is apparently frowned upon. Sheesh.
Think about it if you have alts all doing the reputation. I have 10 of those and if each rep tier calls for a DS9 visit one little thing to complain about all of sudden turns into 50 little things to complain about. Now that’s the third reputation in a row that calls for a DS9 visit so all in all... its annoying.
I have 17 alts (and counting) all doing the reputation and it still doesn't bother me. Honestly, it's just not that big a deal to travel to DS9 and make a few mouse clicks.
I like how you seem to feel that the OP's perception of something being annoying is not important....only because you feel differently.
I happen to agree with the OP. It is extremely annoying. And whether it takes several clicks...or only one click, if it is annoying it is annoying.

old tricks most of us know, the point is we'd rather not have to jump these little hoops at all, as valoreh said its just a time sink and excuse to force players to a social hub other than ESD/Qo'nos

Well maybe you know, but there are obviously plenty of people in this thread that don't know. Otherwise they wouldn't be complaining about having to fly there because they don't have the diplomacy to transwarp there yet. Glad you know it. Great. Congratulations!!! You win internetz!!! It's clear from this thread though that there are many people that do not know.
So again, I apoligize for trying help the people in this thread that did not know that. It apparently offended the people that do know that.

You do understand, that all your 'changing instances' de facto (time-wise and visually) counts as transwarps, right?

I don't have Diplomacy done yet on my Rom alt. Nevertheless, you can use the free transwarp to Defera, exit the system, and you're as good as on top of DS9.
Has nothing to do with Diplomacy, just the game mechanics on changing instances.
You do understand, that reaching lv. 4 in Diplomacy gives you a direct transwarp to DS9, right?
I don't know what this free transwarp to Defara you speak of is
That much is obvious. And it's 'Defera.' You get transwarp to Defera System Space upon having unlocked Tier I of the Omega Force Reputation.
either as the only option I have at all to transwarp is to Sol, which is pretty pointless if you are anywhere in the Beta Quadrant as you can just change instances and be there just as quick. Then just hop on over to Beta Quadrant and change instances again and you are practically at DS9 in no time at all.
As I said, you're doing the 'trouble' equivalent of 2 transwarps that way. Glad you figured it out, but your method is just one of many, and it would probably behoove you to come off your high horse about it a bit.

and again you are, apparently willfully, missing the point... it is not about how easy or fast it is/isn't to get to DS9... Its the fact that we shouldn't really have to get there in the first place
It's an interesting element of mankind that for most- it doesn't matter how they get something, only that they get it. For others, the means is more important.
What they are trying to say is that there's not much point in going to DS9 at all. It was a major point in the game during the Mirror Invasion and with the MACO, but those parts of the game are either removed or now defunct, even if the npcs are still there. Unless forced to go by the game mechanics, DS9 would be completely unused. It's a Dead zone for the most part ever since they removed much of the purpose for it after Mirror.
Other reasons to go to DS9:
- 1 or 2 missions
- Hard to find Trader Doff missions
- Omega mini-game
- Transwarp point
- Rep Logs
- and that's about it, since most of the encounters with DS9 aren't actually AT DS9, but mission instances, etc, which are an entirely different location in the game.
I've been playing for years and never realized you could shortcut across the map that way by changing instances. I've never come across a situation where I'd need to change instances in sector space, so I never discovered this property. Thank you for the useful information.
The only problem with this is that it can send you to any transwarp point on the map you're on. But you do usually go to the primary for your faction.

Unless I am at DS9 or Dyson Command I usually wait and do them all or all remaining Tiers at once. Dyson is required for the Tier 5 Rewards.
Maybe they should do that for Terran, Temporal, and Lukari Tier 5 Rewards too and stop the whining. On second thought nothing ever stops the whining.
'But to be logical is not to be right', and 'nothing' on God's earth could ever 'make it' right!'

l don't know.
l really don't know what l'm about to say, except l have a feeling about it.
That l must repeat the words that come without my knowledge.'
Has nothing to do with with feeling differently. You and the OP are lamenting over having to travel somewhere and do something... a most basic component of playing an MMO or any other game for that matter.
This is a discussion forum, we're discussing an issue. I thought it was odd and mildly annoying, I brought it up for discussion. The only person making more of it then that is you.
I heartily agree with the OPs sentiment. It makes absolutely NO sense that I can receive a message no matter where I am in the galaxy, and yet I have to travel to DS9 to read a .......message.... and yes, the irony of actually getting a message telling me to go there and read a message.
Not that the game isn't totally riddled with "come see me at...." messages just so an NPC can tell you something face to face that could have easily been done over the communicator. Especially annoying when what they tell you to do sends you right back to where you were before you had to see them.......
However, like others, some good things have come out of this thread, like the using instance change as a free transwarp

the dyson stuff i can understand since nelen exil is contacting you from within the dyson sphere at great risk to his own life, so that i dont mind because it makes for good story telling, evn the new rom stuff is well done, but going to ds9 jusst to read text? yeah thats just friking annoying when i could easily do that in my ready room or on my bridge.
but as another poster said sarrish minna (or however its speled) is probably some devs waifu , so we have to have her crammed down our throats.
Ok people. I get that it is annoying to travel there however you get there. It's a problem that people are complaining about. I do get that, really I do. However, instead of complaining about it, I deal with it. Since it is annoying to deal with, I offered a way not everyone will know about to speed up the process in case you don't have access to the other way to get there. I was trying to offer a workaround for people that did not know about it. Then I am the one told to get off my high horse, for just trying to help people that didn't know about it? Then I get jumped on by all the people that did know about it and I'm the one on a high horse.
Once again, I apologize for trying to take the thread from a giant TRIBBLE fest into a way to help players that may not know other ways to quickly get around the map.
I'll restate it again, since apparently it takes multiple times to get through to people. You are vets and know things about the game many people don't. I was just sharing a way not everyone knows about as a workaround for the issue. Yes, it's still annoying. Yes it's still something that should probably be looked at. In the mean time, not everyone knows as much about the game as you guys, so I was trying to help it be at least a little bit less annoying for those people. If you knew you could do this already, I was obviously NOT TALK TO YOU.
I get your point, you are bothered that you have to go do it at all. Do you get my point yet? For someone who doesn't know about that trick, which there were obviously people who did not, this makes it a bit less annoying for them. I'm sorry that I did not realize every single person on this forum was a vet and knows every single thing about the game and that I should not post helpful tips for newer players here.

Well, with the number of people complaining they have to fly all the way there, some people obviously have not figured this out. Sorry for trying to present an easier way for people to get this done. Yeah, it's just a workaround and doesn't solve the issue, but there is nothing we can really do to solve the issue and it appears several people had not figured this little workaround out yet. Sure, it would be nice if they changed it to something a bit easier, but this works for now.

You're welcome. The only reason I found it was because my wife and I play together sometimes and we were on different instances so I changed instances to get to the same one as her as it just feels cooler flying across sector space side-by-side. Much to my surprise, after changing instances, I was halfway across the map. Ooops.
For the record, this guy gets it. Yes, it's still annoying, but my post made it a little less annoying for this person, and anyone else who read it but prefers to not post as well.

Likewise, if you equate any discussion of any issue to wining, complaining, or raging then I question rather or not you should be on message boards.
