    No, it's not "disappointing," either.

But it is disappointing to see a thread full of self-entitled ranting against Cryptic daring to make a promotional offer the posters are not personally interested in.

They put these things on their forums for a reason. So people can comment on them. The feedback Cryptic receives on such promotions helps them making more attractive ones in the future.

Though I agree with you that a take-it-or-leave-it offer should never anger anyone, it IS understandable that people might find this promotion... uninspiring.

Not me. I'm not outraged, not entitled, and am actually very happy with all of the other good things that Cryptic has done for me lately, like Rom/KDF science ships, kits revamp, phoenix pack, infinity pack, and Black Friday weekend.

I'm simply providing feedback to Cryptic that this is the weakest, least useful bonus they have offered me since at least Fall 2014 when I returned to the game after a 2-year absence.

I'm not saying "I deserve more," I'm saying every other offer they've made me has been more appealing. 20% sales on ships, services, costumes, etc. and 15% zen bonus and lockbox keys have been the norm. This promotion gives me no good reason not to wait for the next one of those.

This has nothing to do with being self-entitled or ranting or whatever EVEN so that some people might overreact a little bit more than the others, but like Coldnapalm said a Bad Promo is a Bad Promo and this Promo is Bad starting from its Title, using a Premature and Childish Slang Language as an approach trying to make it "cool" like we are a bunch of Kids is highly Unprofessional and out of place, in game in basically every Channel, be it the Zone chat or the nop Channel, everyone is allready making fun of that (including the Promo itself) so that says something.

This "Deal" is no Deal at all, having to spend a Hundred Dollar worth of Zen just for those 4 Boxes with a Super Duper Slight """Chance""" to get something out of it is - like the majority of people here and in game agree with - just a ludicrous offer, that they should have better not made to save themself from that backlash, no Promo is better than such a bad Promo.

Also like many others i too have to thank Cryptic for the other offers before that, esspecially Black Friday was really nice, big Time Shopping for me (3 Big Packs) and to a degree the Phoenix Box was also a nice thing EVEN with the - Lockbox Typical - abysmal drop rate, i got all those old Emotes for all my chars so iam pleased, thats another reason why this "treat yo'self" promo looks so terrible when compared to the really good ones before.

So again, a bad promo is a bad promo, no need to whiteknight that - but also no need to overreact like they shoot one in the foot -

Not a good promo but you could have brought this out the first day.I hang my head in shame but I already spent 14k zen on R&D boxes.Would have gave me 4 more tries to get nothing I really wanted anyways.lol.Also I don't mind spending a few bucks but no ship is worth what it would cost to win one from these packs.

    Hey folks,

There has been a little bit of confusion as to how this event works, and I wanted to clarify that. If you spend 10,000 Zen at all during the time this promotion is running, even if it's Zen you already had, you will receive the bonus packs.

Whether that's something you want to do or not is up to you and not for me to discuss, but I did want to clarify the confusion.

Please remember to stay civil in this thread. Thank you.

Why are folks coming here and complaining about ambassadorkael? *TO* him, I could maybe understand - as he can pass the info on to others who *might* (be able to) do something about it. All ambassadorkael did is post the info and make further clarifications to help clear the muddy waters.

Granted, imho - this "special offer" does feel like a big "TRIBBLE you" on many levels; the players should speak up as to an offer being something they like or not - so that the folks in charge can keep putting up offers folks *like* and will attempt to take advantage of.

All that being said, let's not beat/kill the messanger - after all we need MORE communication here not less. If we can express opinions and satisfaction/dis-satisfaction without the name calling/rants perhaps we'll have a better chance to be heard and maybe even have some of the Devs show up here from time to time like they do on other games' Forums.

Meh, if it's not for me, I won't spend any money. If enough people feel and do the same that will speak for itself.

    D'oh!

*sigh* I'll save the Zen for future ship bundles.

The T6 I.S.S. Enterprise would have been a nice gesture, even if it came with Command.

I think that alien domain or whatever trek game is out there, offers an ISS Enterprise, it's the most vicious ship in game ~shrug~

It would be Timelines, and the I.S.S. Enterprise IS the best ship in that game...I got it for free, and trust me that game company is far more Money thirsty than Cryptic...but again, got the best ship in game for free (dont see Cryptic dropping a T6 Enterprise for free, but that would be hilarious with all the people trying to sell it for 500+ keys)

I wish people would limit there comments to being more constructive rather than using names or attacking the marketing team. They are watching the success of the promotion and will adapt, they have given much to be thankful for, so try to remember before posting more hurtful comments. A lot of people work hard to develop the game and grow the community.

It's a continuous effort to 'get the word out' from finding new players, to expanding the player base, so we all have a game to enjoy with others for year's to come...

People try to be more kind to the developer, their team, and other players... for which the ideals of Star Trek are based. :)

This promo is not motivating me to spend zeni or buy zeni so I can spend it.

I look forward to picking up a few of the promo! packs to open and possibly re-sell later for Ec this month, but with nothing else going on deal-wise, I'm just not tripping over my feet to fling $100 at the screen in a very rushed window.

Maybe you have players with deeper pockets who jump every time there's -any- sale, but I think you can tell that doesn't describe the usual suspect when it comes to forum posts. If so, great, they can keep supporting the game out of those deep pockets. But I'm guessing your internal sales figures will show this "$100 now now now!" gate was not a great tool for prying money out of your more "middle class" players who spend some-but-not-thousands on the game.

It's Christmas time here so bad timing on this promo. I plan on throwing $100 at the game to sell keys or boxes and get some ships off the exchange just really bad timing cuz I need money for presents
  • redrickyredricky Member Posts: 1,004 Arc User
So, the spending thing as opposed to the buying thing might not be a significant difference to some but I think previous posters have been right that they're trying to rebalance the dil exchange. Tinfoil hat based on no actual information, I speculate this originates from a different source than the sales we've seen lately. It's so tone deaf it just doesn't fit with the other sales which were calibrated pretty well. Or, I have no idea what I'm talking about which is likely.

In the spirit of staying constructive, here is what would get my money: If there were rewards based on spending I would get suckered if the time period was an entire year. Then if I was short of a tier I know I would be tempted to spend to make it. Also, make the year start and end on STO's birthday instead of around holidays that have me spending money in other places.

So... if you do happen to spend an obscene amount of money during the specified time frame... when and where is this little bonus supposed to show up?

No, spend Zen. I think it's either promotional, or something.

Y'know what this promo reminds me of?

You ever take one of those long, satisfying poos that leave you with a warm sense of accomplishment at the end?

Yeah, all the recent promotions and sales, such as the Upgrade Key Sale, the Phoenix Prize Packs, and the Infinity Lockbox were that long satisfying poo.

This R&D promotion was that one little nugget that plops out at the end.

It ain't much, but at least it came out, so stop whining.
Space Barbie Extraordinaire. Got a question about Space Barbie? Just ask.

    Things I want in STO:

    1) More character customization options such as more clothing options, letting the toon complexion affect the entire body, not just the head. Also a true RGB color picker applied to all costume and appearance options, which would allow for true appearance customization and homogenous colors instead of "this same exact color looks vastly different on two different pieces."
    2) Bridge customization, not bridge packs. Let us pick a general layout and adjust the color palette, console appearance, and chair types, as well as more ready room layout options.
    3) Customizable ground weapons, i.e. The aesthetic look of phaser dual pistols but they shoot antiproton bolts. For obvious reasons this would only apply to standard ground weapons.
    4) For the love of Q please revamp Plasma Ground Weapons. They look like demented Supersoakers right now.
    5) True Vanity Impulse and Deflector effects similar to Vanity Shields.
    6) A greater payout for hitting T6 Reputations. Currently it takes more time and resources to get from T5 to T6 than it does to get from nothing to T5. Make that grind really pay out at the end.
    7) Mirrorverse Refugee event similar to AoY/Delta/Gamma, complete with new Mirrorverse recruits for all factions.
    8) Independent Faction, because yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me!
