Being able to grind for each previous Event ship, put them in the Lobi Store, or purchase their appropriate pearls/voucher/photograph from the Lobi Store would certainly go along way for helping newcomers. The same could be said for doing the same for the Mirror Invasion and Crystalline Entity Event rewards. Not everyone wants to go after a Duty Officer or Admiralty Card, but a space pet or shotgun is far more desirable. Limited Time rewards have always punished newcomers for not playing the game before they knew about it.
However, restricting old event rewards to Lifers is something that should be avoided like the plague. Either everyone has access to the old event rewards or no one does.
so in other words "if I cant have it no one can"
No, in other words, if everyone can't have it, then no one should. I have grinded for all the Event ships and have obtained all of the Mirror Invasion and Crystalline Entity Event rewards that interest me. Everyone should have the opportunity to get all these old rewards instead of a bunch of special snowflakes that paid $200 to $300 on the Lifetime Subscription.

I just see two statements here that basically mean the same thing.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
I checked the Dyson Bundle and it has a part of its set in an event ship, same with Tier 6 flagships.
These old event ships + consoles are literally the only thing a LTS can miss.
Sure all these event ships, are cool and strong but over time newer and better stuff comes out.
They dont really care giving it to lifers as lifers already payed to stick arround for the next cyle(s).
Dyson bundle is not a good comparison for this as anyone can buy the ship that has the last part of the set on it at any time. Its in the Lobi store. Before all the Exclusivity talk that was the original plan Add them to the Lobi Store.
A 'Lifer' is just somebody who is perpetually VIP/Premium, whatever the term is now, so I am very such against having anything like this lifer exclusive as it should include those paying through the nose for a subscription.

Might as well give it to everyone. STO has one of the worst subscription models available for MMOs and this would just make it slightly better which is something that should be avoided. STO's subscription model is so bad that they decided not to have it for consoles.

i dont believe thats true, world of tanks charge the cheapest package of 360 Days of Premium works out at ($7.99/30 Days) or $95.88 for 360 days
for that you get - A Wargaming Premium Account allows you to progress faster in the game, providing 50% more Credits and Experience per battle. And you get a unique Garage!.
all of which you loose the second you become a non-subscriber.
also as the you buy your premium with gold this can work out a lot more expensive depending on what gold package you buy, as much as $11.16/30 Days instead of the $7.99/30 Days quoted above or $133.92 for 360 days, this can jump up as high as $42.00/30 Days if you use the most expensive option and subscribe daily and that comes to $504 for 360 days.
at $77.94 for 6 months or $155.88 per year sto sub might seem expensive compared to WOT cheapest package but don't forget you get 500zen stipend every month or 6000zen a year plus all of the other perks for subscribing over this extended period.
most of which you get to keep when you stop subscribing.
and I am sure there are many other models just as poor as WOT out there.

The only benefit of STO's Subscription model is for leveling due to all the Bridge Officer Slots, Inventory Slots, Respecs, Bank Slots, and free Dilithium ships. So there is no point in subscribing for more than a month. Paying $15 a month for a 500 Zen Stipend is completely worthless. I can get 1000 Zen for the first month and 1500 Zen for each additional month for the same price and get the same benefits. The 1000 Zen for the first month is to purchase the mandatory EC cap increase. Therefore, the only two options in STO is to go F2P or get a Lifetime Subscription.
A good subscription model requires reason for players to keep subscribing to the game. SWTOR has a great subscription model since its next Expansion requires a subscription to play its new endgame content.
I think what you were trying to say, starkaos, is that STOs business model is focused more on the grind after the game is over and done with. Everything money-wise leans eventually in that direction. Granted, the costs are a more than a bit extreme, given you often find yourself buying things that may be account- or character-locked.
As for the guy leaning on the "1 mil Dil" policy - get real. 4 out of 5 players (if not more) are strictly Free-to-Play, not subscribers. Of the players that invest money into the game, 2/3s are not subscribers - they just one-opted an item here or there. My estimates are rough and would likely have a greater skew than I've stated. These players spend all that Dil on not just the exchange, but just doing simple things: Upgrades, Fleet, Ships, etc... As for having 1 mil Dil on a single toon, unless you've been grinding everyday for 9+ hours a day every since the game first was released, this isn't likely to happen very often. There are simply too many other things to use it on which require it. I guess you can get to this point in 1 - 3 years, but that's still unlikely without paying in.

though it is true that subscribing monthly might seem pointless but that was not what was stated previously, the statement was "STO has one of the worst subscription models available for MMOs" and I am just pointing out that in my opinion this is not the case.
compare your argument that it is no point in subscribing for more then a month, look at the stuff you get for that one subscription fee and what you get to keep when you don't subscribe after that first month, now compare that to what you get for subscribing for 1 month to WOT and factor in the fact that you loose this once that month ends if you do not continue subscribing and you will surely agree that even subscribing to sto for one month is better value then subscribing to WOT for one month.
sure there are some months you might subscribe and just get the 500 zen but if you subscribe for 100, 200, 300 days and so on you unlock those extra perks that are yours to keep and compare this to the fact that subscribing to WOT for similar periods only nets you the ability to keep what you got that first month for a longer period, no extra perks that you get to keep.
IMO the sto subscription model is far more rewarding over longer periods then the WOT one is.
whether you just subscribe for 1 month or if you keep subscribing for anywhere up to 1000 days providing you hit those 100 day milestones you will always be much better off having that subscription with sto when you stop then you will be with WOT.
naturally the best bet is to buy a LTS but not everyone can afford that.

Don't need DPS, hell I just ran the Crystaline Entity with my Pilot science ship full torp load. Dumped all my power into Aux hit GW2 and TR1, and came out top damage along with unloading with torps which I had a bunch of.
DPS, sure kinda nice with something like my phaser cannon defiant, but damn did I wreck some stuff with my sci pilot bird with my Tactical officer stuffed with torps and 3 omni arrays.

As a LTS, I say nope. Event items are freely accessible to everyone around at the time the event ran, if you didn't do a run for them when the event ran, that's your fault.
Event rewards SHOULD require completion of the event. But should be account reclaimable.
Now, the ships are done right, you claim them on one character, then there is a store in the Event Rep that lets you reclaim them across your account.
Events such as Mirror, CE and Voth are done badly, as they are ONLY reclaimable on the character that completed the event. This is annoying if you have say 8 characters (which is perfectly doable to run 8 chars through Crystalline Entity in less than 2 hours, including DOffing/Admiralty time), but is a menace if you have 50+ characters like I do, as I cannot physically run that many characters through even the quick CE event, meaning the often very build specific or mediocre (the Admiralty Cards fall under this, they are not worth doing the event for on their own, they just aren't special enough as apart from the Voth Citadel, are not much better than normal T6 Admiralty cards) reward is unclaimable on any character that may actually want to use it (such as an unlevelled character that isn't Level 50).
However, LTS should be able to obtain the Pre-Order bonuses (through a Rep project, or a realistic (E.g. 50k, not 100k+ like those insanely overpriced Movie-Era uniforms and the cash-whale only Ent Era MACO uniform) Dil cost, EC, Zen, etc), especially since they were mostly region locked to specific areas of the USA.
Event Rewards for LTS? No.
Event Rewards Account Wide? Yes x Infinity.
Lockbox/Lobi Ship Account Wide Unlock (Zen cost of somewhere in the range of 500-1000 would be appropriate, as you would still need to have obtained the ship from the Lobi store or Lockbox and opened it's box)? Yes x Infinity
If you can't solve it logically, solve it like a moron.
51 + 1 Foundry Character Slots is NOT enough. Some of us love our characters. If I want to buy more character slots, why can't I? I couldn't experience the entire Delta Recruitment event without deleting a character.
The Iconians themselves can't time travel because their memories revert, but there is nothing to say an Iconian couldn't write everything she needed to do on a PADD, pin it to herself, travel back, read the PADD, do the tasks and return. Or just get one of her Non-Herald underlings to go back in time for her.
Oh yeah, I do Foundry missions for both KDFs and Feds. Just search KSTF (Short for Kinas Special Task Force, where Kinas is the name of the Admiral you will be serving under). The earlier ones are less story based and more combat based, while the later ones have a much heavier story element, but keep the large battles.
Started playing this game this summer and it's been a steep learning curve at times but generally quite enjoyable. I've reached the Endgame for all 3 of my characters and as I have been researching high DPS builds have learned that many Starship traits, consoles and bonus event items are fantastic for Endgame but were time limited in terms of availability for specific event periods. For those that received these event items, kudos for spending the time to acquire them! I'd like to suggest to the developers the idea of making these event items and bonuses available for those that were not playing Star Trek Online and thus did not have the opportunity to earn these items.
I myself purchased a Lifetime subscription this summer after about a month of playing as a way of catching up; access to content and perks to speed up the grind. I also purchase the Delta Rising and Temporal Agent Founders packages. Currently I find it a bit frustrating to learn that there are quite a few items, traits, ships and recruitment bonuses, etc that are a big asset in the Elite and Advance queues that are unavailable due to not having started playing the game when they were available. Speaking for myself, I'd be more than happy to pay a small premium to have the chance to earn some if not all of these items, traits and bonuses that came before my time in Star Trek Online.
I realize that Star Trek Online is a business for Cryptic, hence the suggestion to make this content available for Lifetime subscribers at a small premium as a way to offset the cost of the effort to implement making that content available(Nevermind providing added incentive to purchase a Lifetime subscription and support Cryptic's efforts in this game). If some of the content could be made available via lockbox perhaps that would also be a possibility so that the whole community could also benefit.
I'd welcome any ideas and any discussion on this matter.
Thanks for your consideration!
the thing is every T6 ship has a trait and you will find it very costly to buy every c-store T6 ship there is so you will be "missing out " on a lot of traits there also.
add to this the fact that some traits are faction specific so you cant use these on all of your characters.
when you also consider that you only have a limited number of starship traits you can slot anyway (each player has four trait slots available; 1 extra slot is purchasable at the Fleet Research Lab.) and you begin to see how unimportant it is missing out on the small number you will never get due to event exclusivity.
therefore my advise, stop worrying over traits you don't have and just use the ones you do have.
QFT. besides, traits fall out of favor. use to be reciprocity and AHOD were must haves. not so much now because of the spec trees.
Event items are freely accessible to everyone around at the time the event ran, if you didn't do a run for them when the event ran, that's your fault.
It's nobody's "fault". Due to real life and other more important things one might have missed out. Or somebody else is new to the game and is greeted with a frankly blatant phrase like "Well you've not been there back then? Oh well, your fault!". Without trying to be mean here, I have to say this is a really ignorant statement to make.
BTW: when the Winter- and Summer-Events first had their re-runs after Chel'Grett and Risian Corvette, every Player was able to earn the current event-ship as well as any previous ones. On the next re-runs, they became account-unlocks. And this was what I call a fair system, fair for everybody.
No Need to lock anything behind LTS here, or behind "Well, you do it NOW (no matter your circumstances) or never again!". Abandoning this was a mistake that should be remedied.
The amount of effort would be the same afterall and might even make Cryptic/PWE *money*, as some players sure would want to speed things up with Lobi.
I purchased LTS when the game first came out, and I've spent a whole lot of money on in-game content since then. My point being that I have helped to support the game from its beginning. Now as much as I would have liked to be at every event, I just couldn't make it to them all. You know, got to go to work and make that money. So I think it would be nice to be able to purchase or have access to all in-game content is some way, and get rid of exclusivity. Exclusivity, in my opinion, has just punished people like me and newcomers to the game. I love the game, and if Cryptic or Perfect World would make the exclusive items purchasable, I would buy them.

the problem is when they run an event they want as many players to play as possible, like it or not making past rewards forever slotable would result in many players putting off events with the sure knowledge they can always get the reward next time the event comes around, this would be even more prevalent with account unlock items where you could easily win many multiple rewards all from the same event, so for example a player with six characters could easily miss the event for the next 5 years and then just slot a mission for 6 rewards one on each of their characters on the sixth year.
the devs changed the reward tokens because players were playing in advance to skip future events, in the devs eyes there is very little difference between that or skipping events and then playing for multiple rewards in a future event.

when you bought your LTS and spent other money in game you got exactly what you paid for, you knew full well that spending this money did not entitle you to any consideration with regard to gaining past rewards.

Yeah I'll just tell my boss I have to leave early because Star Trek Online is having an event, and I need to get a new beam array for my spaceship lol. It must be nice to be able to tell your boss that or not have to work during the events. I purchased the LTS because I love the game, and I wanted to support it. You know, since the game needs money to operate. I mean come on guys, not all of us live in a basement for free and have time to play video games all day lol.

Having a job where you need to travel to places far from home without internet has a lot of downsides, missing sto events is just one of them. There are other jobs if you don't like the work-travel lifestyle.
If you don't have a job where you have to travel to africa, or the australian bush, or on an oil rig or a fishing boat or whatever then I don't know what you're complaining about.
STO events are always stuff that takes like 10 minutes a day, for 14 days out of 25 or 35 or something. If at the end of your working day you return home, then you can spend 10 minutes doing a STO daily without any trouble. Thousands of people do.
Yeah you're right lol maybe I should just change my job, so I have time to make it to all the STO events lol.

Exclusivity, in my opinion, has just punished people like me and newcomers to the game. I love the game, and if Cryptic or Perfect World would make the exclusive items purchasable, I would buy them.
when you bought your LTS and spent other money in game you got exactly what you paid for, you knew full well that spending this money did not entitle you to any consideration with regard to gaining past rewards.
you are not the only sto player that has to work and has other responsibility's if others can make time so can you.
If you cant get 10 free minutes out of your day, you might consider it. On some level there is more to life than money.
On some days I can, and on some days I can't. Like I said I haven't missed all of them. I agree, there is more to life than money. Just like there's more to life than a video game event lol. I mean come on, would it really be that bad to get rid of exclusivity in the game?
there's a few things from events over the years that are awesome. i love the crystalline spike for example. I know a lot of people like that kobali 4th piece for the command set. but this guy is talking dps race. i can't think of a single event prize that is vital for dps min/max. can you?

If a character costume cost more than a mil dil then you can bet you sweet bippi that if they were to put in an event ship that thing will be like 20 or 30 mil dil easy.
When you say that, all you're doing is telling us you don't understand what either item is for.
The 1million and up costumes are NOT DILITHIUM SINKS. They cost far too much to be effective in that role. They are prestige items intended to tickle the egos of players who almost coincidentally have a ton of refined dilithium, but more importantly need a way to visually be unique/special to keep them engaged with the game (while they spend scads of real cash). In fact if they were priced as effective dilithium sinks they'd be worthless as prestige items because they wouldn't be rare enough. Their value comes from being unobtainable to the casuals who might want them and who look on in envy at those who have them.
Conversely re-introducing old ships is the polar opposite of a prestige item. In fact it destroys the prestige value of the ones already in game, which means you'd only do it as a dilithium sink. And again you don't price dilithium sinks so high only a fraction of a percent think they're worth pursuing. Dilithium sinks work on total volume of dilithium consumed and that means high... but still attractive. I sincerely doubt it would be over 5 million and lower is quite plausible.
All it takes is logging in once for 2 minutes to slot the project in the 25-35 days of an event. I did it for the winter event this year, work was busy so I logged in only once in four months. It cost a lot of keys to get enough lobi for the tokens but now I'm able to fly the vorgon escort on all my toons.
It's unfortunate that I don't have access to any of the older Breen or Risa ships, but I wasn't there when the events happened so.. tough luck.
The amount of effort would be the same afterall and might even make Cryptic/PWE *money*, as some players sure would want to speed things up with Lobi.
the problem is when they run an event they want as many players to play as possible, like it or not making past rewards forever slotable would result in many players putting off events with the sure knowledge they can always get the reward next time the event comes around, this would be even more prevalent with account unlock items where you could easily win many multiple rewards all from the same event, so for example a player with six characters could easily miss the event for the next 5 years and then just slot a mission for 6 rewards one on each of their characters on the sixth year.
the devs changed the reward tokens because players were playing in advance to skip future events, in the devs eyes there is very little difference between that or skipping events and then playing for multiple rewards in a future event.
I purchased LTS when the game first came out, and I've spent a whole lot of money on in-game content since then. My point being that I have helped to support the game from its beginning. Now as much as I would have liked to be at every event, I just couldn't make it to them all. You know, got to go to work and make that money. no need to leave early, just make time when you get home, if you are single it shouldn't be a problem but I am sure if you have got an understanding wife/husband she/he will understand this is important to you and allow you some free time or perhaps you would rather sit and watch tv when you get home that is your choice and if you would rather do that then get the latest shiny that's up to you and you cant complain, or perhaps you would rather just come home and go strait to bed again you choice.
like I said before you are not the only person who works and has other responsibilities and when i say responsibilities i mean financial as well as social but you just have to make time if you really want these things like the rest of us do.
I myself work very long shifts, days nights weekends and even have to work Christmas day this year, I also have a hectic family life at home, watch tv and enjoy my beauty sleep but amazingly still make time to do all of the events.

everybody expects cryptic to see things from their point of view but when you are playing an online game like sto you have to realise that the staff who create and organise how that game is presented also have a point of view and try to imagine what running these events and then having players who try to miss them but still get the reward is like for them.
personally I have empathy so can understand where cryptic are coming from and can realise I would do the same if I was them.

When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
the problem is when they run an event they want as many players to play as possible, like it or not making past rewards forever slotable would result in many players putting off events with the sure knowledge they can always get the reward next time the event comes around
So? Players would still have to play, and even play more when they have left out multiple events. The amount of time played will eventually be the same, just not "right now". There is a balance here.
Also, it already WAS that way a while back - they changed something nice and fair to the worse.

It's important for players to play "right now" as cryptic is shooting for revenue "right now." Players playing = money for cryptic. That's why they want you to play this year's event this year and next year's event year. That said, I think that it would be smart for them to open up past projects with the lobi for old currency system as it means more revenue for them. It's a hefty enough penalty for not playing the event as it was designed.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

I completely missed the Risa summer event this year due to the TOS additions to the game. By the time I remembered to stop over and check on it, the event had ended - and I missed out on the new Risa ship. I could of kicked myself, since I'd been looking forward to that particular item.

Dyson bundle is not a good comparison for this as anyone can buy the ship that has the last part of the set on it at any time. Its in the Lobi store. Before all the Exclusivity talk that was the original plan Add them to the Lobi Store.

When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

QFT. besides, traits fall out of favor. use to be reciprocity and AHOD were must haves. not so much now because of the spec trees.
It's nobody's "fault". Due to real life and other more important things one might have missed out.
