how can 1mil+ captains only have 2.7 mil bridge officers?

today they posted this infographic for consoles:

http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/xbox/star-trek-online/news/detail/10230033

it says there are 1.1 mil captains, and 2.7 mil bridge officers. that is less than 3 bridge officers per captain. does this mean the majority of that 1.1mil stopped playing very early? because don't you get more than 3 bridge officers pretty early in the missions?

    Dooooommmmm !

It's probably a combination of alts, and people who did give up because they decided they didn't like the gameplay.

I did that with Marvel Heroes a couple of years ago before returning to it this year, and I didn't get too far into Paths of Exile before wandering away from it.

When you think about it though, that's probably 400-600,000 people who at least tried the game. Not bad for less than 2 months.

Even though we get a full compliment of bridge officers to fill every slot for ground missions... if you don't have enough bridge officers the game gives you a hand with nameless red shirt security officers. To that end having more bridge officers than you need for ship crew stations is... pointless. That and don't forget, this game doesn't hold hands. You could decide you don't like any of your bridge officers and dismiss them all, even the starter ones (I know I did, but I also replaced them with aliens so I could experiment with making sci-fi races from other franchises). And before you start in on 'but rarity!', if a bridge officer has no useful skills that can't be replaced with a visit to the Bridge Officer Trainer or traits that help your ship set-up then rarity don't mean jack.

Append: Wow, me and my crew are in the minority... make more scientists!!

Another Append: Seeing the Odyssey from the front... makes it look even dumber. And that thing was fan-designed? That's got to be some kind of BS, it's too stupid looking to be fan made.

It's a free-to-play game. One would expect a lot of players to just try it once to see what it's like.

    That's pretty self-evident.

If you figure everyone gets at least 2 doing the tutorials, then that leaves 500,000 bridge officers for the people actually playing the game past level 10. Which probably means about 50,000 people are actually playing the game

Can't say I'm surprised...was so worth it them porting it to consoles...means what...if we split it down the middle...25k per console.

But even 25K per console isn't exactly a small figure. I would say Neverwinter is hovering around those numbers, and most likely so is ESO, Warframe and quite a few other multi-player games on console. Its a very healthy number of steady players.

Yeah but how many of those other games are getting slow to no support and suffering lots of game breaking bugs?

Cryptic couldn't even manage to develop a good PC version of the game...why anyone would expect them to develop anything good now split 3 ways is beyond me.

Plus those numbers don't say how many of those 25k are actually active...just says that 25k actually made it beyond the first few levels.

What is really interesting is that Klingons are at 20% and Romulans are at 12% even though they didn't go through the extreme lack of content that KDF players on the PC had to go through in STO's early years. I wouldn't be surprised if the PC version has similar numbers.

Well it's simple...each is smaller than the next...they showed Feds all the love since the start thus they're the most popular...KDF has a lot less options than Feds but the RR has even less than the KDF.

On console. Once your romulan character hits lv50, you will be unable to use any available skill and specialization points that you have earned. Many people have stopped using romulans due to this and many will not play as them due to this. This and man, many, many, MANY other bugs have existed upon release for console.

The amazing thing to me is that all Console have the SAME hardware and memory configuration, etc. IE You would think QA would have NO PROBLEM finding and documenting the major bugs you describe.

What do you want bet maybe they did and upper management thought they could just do a fast 'fix it' patch? (But said patch took longer to get Microsoft/Sony approval?) Either way, just shows how messed up it must be to work for Cryptic where quality is job 42 it seems.

Job 1? - Releasing whatever you have in whatever condition you have on the advertised street date, then getting someone to make the Podcast rounds saying - "STO is the best game ever, and the Players love it." ;)

actually in term of relative numbers I'm fairly sure consoles have more kdf players. maybe even alot more.

But this is an infographic for consoles that was released after about 1.5 months from launch. So there is no bias as far as the lack of Klingon or Romulan development is concerned. It clearly shows that people are more interested in playing Feds over Klingons or Romulans and it has absolutely nothing to do with there being a lot less options. I seriously doubt that the majority of players researched all the available options in each of the various factions and based their faction on that. After all, most of the console players are apparently not even getting to level 10 to worry about endgame ships so they just decided on whatever faction they wanted to play for about an hour or two.

I would love to see the 7th year anniversary infographs for how many people play Star Trek Online on PC.
The Rising of the Delta is the best expansion ever, and people love it to death because it is a good day to die in the endless struggle for supremacy of your own conviction. (A spin off of the Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and all the players love it.)

I'm not surprised about the Roms being such a small percentage. When they were dropped on PC it was to PC players who were starved for content and were attracted by how OP they were. For a new console players who isn't a trekkie will just look and see a pointy eared human with a weird haircut and just go with feds seeing something more familiar. Also, roms got fek all for new player rewards, not that the tier 1 andorian escort, or stream runner really enticed people. Like, how lazy can you get.

But the OSes of the PS4 and XBOne are completely different. That's like saying that since Linux runs on PC hardware, it should be a no brainer to port STO to Linux. (Or support the Mac. We know how that went.)

I came to STO only after it dropped for Xbox One and I enjoy the game quite a bit. All by myself I have ten games running at various points with all of the characters at least in the lieutenant commander range. I have three different level admirals with a couple of more on the verge. I do have two starter lieutenants parked that I will get to eventually. For the Federation, I tend to keep Elisa Flores around and replace the other starting bridge crew members as rare and very rare officers become available. I train each to suit my needs.

My point being that this game hasn't lasted this many years if people aren't playing it. There is new content still being created for the pc and that stuff should eventually make its way to console.
