Shooter mode ruined

I was having a look at the new graphics on tribble when I noticed this awful change, for some reason they have decided that the camera needs to be higher in shooter mode ,this takes away all views that replicate mass effect or similar shoulder view style,I reallllly hope there is an option to choose or change the point of view when this goes live on 25th oct.

it could be an accidental change, wouldn't be the first time they messed things up on tribble without realizing it.

There is a Tribble Bugs section in the Forums, you may want to make a note of it over there, so the Dev looking for troubles with Tribble server stuff can find it.

Used to be that as long as you could actually see a part of an opponent, you could shoot him. Was used quite a bit in Cure ground when the boss would start popping those stupid cover shields. I was able to headshot him despite the covershields being in the way because I could still "see" and thus target and hit him in shooter mode.

Also... Shooter Mode probably gives an option for a more action oriented feel to the game rather than just RPG controls, and in certain instances, you can get a damage buff from shooter mode from items (Crossfire Tribble buff).

How in the hell can you play without it?

Seriously.. Shooter mode gives you way better control in combat. I use normal mode for walking around and interacting, but as soon as the fighting starts it's right into shooter mode.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it sucks. ;)

Seriously though, they keep putting in 'fixes' that TRIBBLE with shooter mode. You used to be able to save a control scheme for normal mode and a different binding for shooter mode, now that no longer works. Well, it does work.. it just resets itself at any random time it pleases.

I hope they don't permanently change the camera perspective, that would be a change for the worse in my opinion. At least make it an option.

I've tried using 'shooter' mode... maybe it's just a console thing, but my targeting would switch to an ally or a friendly turret after the mob is dead and 'tabbing' around wouldn't get me off friendlies. So I just use the normal mode as, even if the reticle is gree, if there's an enemy that direction I'm still hitting them.

That's the entire reason I use shooter mode, so I don't have to rely on the faulty targeting system. I just aim my gun and what I want dead and fire. :)

Then maybe I'm not understanding this 'shooter' mode. I click R3, I crouch or Kirk roll if I'm moving, hold R2 I'm aiming... those are the only 'mode's I'm aware of.

Oh, you're on console? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they only have shooter mode.

I use shooter mode all the time, one of the things from the original ground combat system, that drove me nuts was the targeting. With shooter mode you can remain mobile and switch targets at will with no effort. This being said I do hope they do not mess with it at all. The last time they did a ground revamp or messed with ground combat, they nearly ruined melee completely. Wait they did ruin it completely. Now its something you pull out for the occasional situation.

Shooter mode is just easier. It's over-the-shoulder TPS (third person shooter). Sure, you can hold down a mouse button to get perspective change and directional movement in rpg mode, but it's just more efficient and less wear and tear on your mouse to use shooter mode, with mouselook.

having easy access to all my abilities and not needing to aim certainly makes RPG mode better suited for support roles. Personally I can't see an obvious advantage of shooter mode over RPG. Loosing access to my mouse to click my abilities is so cripling that, any aiming or dmg advantage is offset.
I could see shooter mode function far better for consoles though, UI is much more streamlined. I mean Neverwinter had a really nice UI for action combat, but it never found its way into STO, too bad.

The perfect aim + easy movement/access to abilities is pretty much why I never waste time with Shooter mode, which always seemed more like a gimmick than a useable feature.

I tried using shooter mode when I started playing STO, despite being almost exclusively a console gamer prior to that I found it much less convenient than the RPG mode. Eventually I just stopped using it entirely.

Fair enough, for most things I agree.. I just use 'Shooter Mode' in combat. Usually when I'm not fighting I drop back into regular mode.

It took me a bit to get used to, but once I played with Shooter Mode for a bit I felt it gave me better control in fights. Of course, everyone has their preference, but the way Cryptic is going, soon there will be only one option. Seems like any updates they do to anything ground related always breaks Shooter Mode. Apparently, the Dev staff doesn't use it either because they surely don't test it. :)

I use shooter mode all the time on the ground, unless I need to do something non-combat-related.

Always shooter mode in combat, rpg out of combat. Sure, you can miss in shooter mode but you aquire desired target much quicker. Targeting itself is very forgiving as well. Point gun in general direction of target and you have a hit. If you ever played any fps on PC, it's super easy, lol. Ocasional miss is overcompensated by quicker targeting anyway.
If you need to use mouse for abilties, you are doing it wrong :P I'm used to have all abilities on keybinds, muscle memory does it way quicker then mouse :)

I'm not sure that's what he meant (and it certainly isn't what I meant). The thing is, with 30 slots, there's plenty of room for all the abilities you could possibly need.

Not interested in using third party software to make keybinds thanks.

Keybinds require nothing more then a simple text file put in your STO directory. There are 3rd party programs that create the file for you, but beyond that, binds do not require additional software.

Personally, I put all my buffs in Tray 7 on ground combat and I use a space bind to fire them. I put situational things like Shield Charges, Hypo Spray etc on Mouse buttons or on another key that's easy to use.

It's really pretty easy to do, took me a couple min to set up and works great for me. Everyone has their own style though, people should do what works for them. Still, for many.. Shooter Mode is a very viable way to play ground combat.

By keybinding I meant assigning abilities to slots on hotbar and using keys on keyboard to activate them. I'm not even using macros, just plain hitting keys on keyboard. At first it might seem hard but I can run, shoot and use abilities all at same time flawlessly.

All I know is I use the ability tray via my keyboard, and mouse for shooter mode. Seems to work grant it, I had to change the second row from crtl to shift on the tray.
