X-Box Requires Xbox Live Gold

Hi....

Sorry to post this here, but not sure where else to post!

I've downloaded the game to my Xbox; however when I try to load it, it keeps asking me to subscribe to Xbox Live Gold. Is this necessary, or is there a way to bypass?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    same. Havn't been able to play on xbox....PS4 is working....but then I have an active PS Plus account.....

    Xbox has always required for you to have GOLD for online play, while playstation is still ify either way still even now

    For some reason there are constant disconnections whenever I play as a Romulan, usually every 30 minutes or so. Which is strange considering I can play for nearly forever when I play Federation.

    Yeah it would need Xbox live as the game is running via the Microsoft servers not cryptic, Microsoft need a way to fund the servers. PS4 would ofc be free for F2P mmos as it always has been, Xbox has never had a F2P mmo on it till now.

    Xbox One requires a Gold subscription for online play. Always has.

    One of the reasons why PS is better than Xbox but seriously. You shouldnt need a subscription to pay a FREE to PLAY game otherwise thats false advertising.

    The game is free to play since you pay nothing to get the game, requiring Gold to play the game has nothing to do with cryptic at all, Microsoft made those rules years ago and won't budge on that.

    Which was the main reason Cryptic/ATARI dropped their original plans to have the game be on a console at it's inception in 2010.

    They were working to put the game on Xbox back in 2008-2009, but then Microsoft demanded that they get a share of the profits through their online service fee.

    At the time, Cryptic/ATARI said they didn't think folks would be willing to be charged Several Times to play their game.

    Which was probably a pretty smart move - $49 to buy the game, $15 per month to play through Cryptic servers, then another $10 per month to play through Microsoft's server is just a tad bit excessive.

    Since there wasn't a F2P option with the launch of STO, that put the kibosh on the console version.

    I don't have a PS4 but I thought it was free for things like Netflix while you would have to pay to play multiplayer online games. Either way, it's not false advertising. Yet another consumer that claims false advertising where there is none.

    Any and all online play for Xbox requires a gold account, unfortunately.
