I'm really getting sick and tired of stupid people shouting "entitlement issues".
This has nothing to do whatsoever with entitlement, and everything to do with the feeling that the 50th anniversary of Star Trek deserved more pomp and circumstance than a mere giveaway.
And that does not automatically translate into: "Want more stuff!"
So I bought this pack a while back and have loved it, specialy with the Temporal ships. I am saddened to see so much hate and greed spreading across the fanbase here, it just seems to go against the very hope that Star Trek was trying to inspire.
That's rich, considering that the R&D TOS ship promo is nothing but greed in its purest form on Cryptic/PWE's part.
Absolutely right. A show based on higher ideals, and these guys are strip mining people's bank accounts on the 50th Anniversary using THE most recognizable piece of Star Trek, the Constitution Class Starship. It absolutely poor taste. If it is a money issue, put it in the C Store and make it unlockable for the account. This is NOT about entitlement, this is about holding a piece of history FUNDEMENTAL to the game hostage. Its disgusting.

Actually, you're thinking of the Temporal Special Agent Pack (I listed it earlier, but may have put the wrong name here), not the one they are giving away for free. This one doesn't have any ships. Just the shuttle you'd get normally for a Tos toon. The pack unlocks it for the rest of your Fed toons.
No I mean the TOS bundle, you cannot use the Pioneer bridge and deck layout with the T6 ships even though they can use their TOS era counterpart hull designs.
Space is vast, it's wonderful and maddening. Yet in that madness is some of the greatest beauty I have ever seen.
You can reclaim the phaser just by clicking the pack again. HOWEVER, once the free pack is no longer free, I don't know if you'll be able to still do this.
Here are three versions of this type of phaser. (Left to Right) 1. Straight from the pack; 2. After placing it in the Upgrade slot with a Capt at who is level 60 (but not upgrading it); 3. A standard phaser type 2 dropped during a mission for my TOS captain at that level (it's the level of the captian at that time like most drops).

Ah. Reread what you wrote before. Thought you were saying you got the Temp ships from the bundle, not that you were using the bundle on the ships!
Its the complete lack of respect to the I.P on a landmark day
They did a whole season for TOS, letting us create TOS captains with TOS uniforms, beam out effects, tricorder scans, sound effects, Walter Koenig. They even made sure to kill a red shirt, classic style.
After months of work, I think they've done more than enough to honor the 50th.
If they really were caught off guard, it was probably from not realizing that some people would still demand more. "Sure, you spent 6 months slaving over AoY, but what have you done for me today!?"
I'm thinking of words less kind than "entitlement," to describe the players not Cryptic. They did good, thanks!
Not that it was much of an expansion or season altogether. It was rather lackluster and clearly another gimmick to increase their precious metrics, not to mention created more bugs than it was worth. Frankly, AoY was a flop and today was a milestone for the IP and they missed the mark entirely. I'm certainly not going to praise Cryptic for their apathy for the game's IP and contempt for its players.

I didn't actually expect Cryptic to give anything away, so this is extremely nice and generous of them. I certainly won't look a gift horse in the mouth. (never have understood that saying, but whatever )
Horses were quickly judged by examining the state of their teeth. A free horse was most likely in bad shape which showed in their dentition.

Yes, they did AOY.
I must point out that unless you started a brand new captain you will not have access to all those fun TOS effects they have.
Also a very limited alien race selection.
The STO developers are definitively Next Gen aficionados in that they don't get TOS.
Would their have been Ferengi and Cardassians in TOS if they could afford the makeup? Hell Yes!
So while a fun expansion it's severely limiting.
Could have been way better simply by removing some arbitrary limits.
They still should have put up an ESD Banner for the once in their lifetime 50th anniversary.
I got this when it first came out years ago but I think it's cool they are giving it away today. Nice touch and thanks Cryptic. It's entirely appropriate.
It was one of my first purchases, too, when I first started playing (my VERY first was the TOS Romulan uniforms as my main character is a displaced 23rd century Romulan), but I understand and agree with you 100%.
Very classy, Cryptic! And regardless of the fact that I'm gaining nothing from it, sincere kudos to whoever devised this giveaway! Others will benefit, and you couldn't have chosen anything more appropriate for the 50th!
(So I had it already. So what? Still a very cool and appropriate gift. Should have been something special to mark the occasion? Well, I thought about that, and the best ideas I could come up with were "Chris Pike's Wheelchair", "Original Pilot Episode Laser Pistols" and "Cosplay Mugato Fursuit", so on the whole it's probably better they went with this.)
Dammit, shevet, now I want a Christopher Pike Wheelchair. With keybinds for "Yes" and "No" beeps.
^^^
Nice photoshop - yeah you'd think the STO Dev team could have actually thought to put something like that IN ESD for today (being patch day) and maybe leave it in game for a week (until the next patch.)

What a suck TRIBBLE disappointment today has been. I mean no party at club 47 no banner saying happy 50th Star Trek... NOTHING.. what a bunch oh A**holes at craptic
Thanks for the giveaway. I'm not a great Trek fan, and so don't have much use for the majority of it, but some will be handy.
That said... I did expect something... More. Not as a giveaway, I would have been happy receiving no goodies on my character, but a special mission or... Something, ingame. It didn't have to be anything major (though that would have been nice), but say a trip to the bridge of the Enterprise and a chat with the bridge crew would have been ideal - Akin to the First Contact Day mission.
While I'm happy with what few free goodies I got that I didn't have from previous giveaways... I have to agree with the opinion that giving away an ancient bundle is rather underwhelming for the 50th anniversary of Star Trek.
Yes, okay, AoY and everything is TOS-themed because of the anniversary. AoY didn't release now, it released a few months ago; let's not even go into how it rapidly turned into ENT with TOS visuals after just a couple of episodes (not that I didn't like it anyway). There's absolutely no indication that this is (well, was - it's over now ) the day Star Trek came out fifty years ago, just a giveaway that could have happened at any other time.
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
I'm grateful that *something* was given away and that there was at least a passing nod to the big day itself, but I do feel that there should have been something unique. For one thing those who already have the pack (guilty as charged here), don't get to join in with the same sense of gratitude for the something being given... and no I'm not bothered that a purchase I made is now available for free.... I have no gripe with that... it's a years old product.
The other salient point as others have continually raised, is that this is a unique event and would have been better served by offering something unique. I especially like the idea of TOS admiralty cards and doffs that was mentioned.
I'm not upset at not having got something for free (heaven knows I've got quite a cluster of things in game on various alts already), I just feel an opportunity has been missed.
In terms of perspective, this is a small thing in life and I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist over it.
Thanks for this.
It'll finally complete the Connie I've had for years with TOS interior and bridge. And my Toslings won't be the only char with the F-type shuttle.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.
I am not ungreatful but the thing is with my three AoY toons already having this stuff I don't really see a need for my regular toons having it, but the extra shuttle helps with admiralty a bit and it's always good to have extra clothing options available I guess.

it should supplement peoples AoY characters just nicely.
The AoY toons already come with this stuff unlocked, only the regular Fed toons (and Fed allied Rom's I think) benefit from the giveaway.
While they do get the uniforms and a shuttle, and there are other ways to get TOS phasers, AoY chars don't get universally usable TOS bridge and can't reclaim the TOS shuttle (at least I think they can't.) So, it's still useful for them.
Thank you Cryptic for making an entire TOS themed expansion for the year of the anniversary and for the freebie yesterday/today.

The full interior (and it's not the exact same bridge as the TOS Pioneer one) and the captain's alternate uniform don't come with TOS faction characters, so at worst you still get that.
Thnaks Cryptic but on an Aoy toon most of ths is umlocked..MOST of it..Was expecting atleast the Star Trek Beyond T6 connie (NCC-1701-A) that would have been a pleasant surprise, that would have gone well with my KT uniform cause its "DIFFERENT"and I have hardly seen anyone using it also..But yeah..Something better than nothing..So thanks for that..
AoY was a let down because the rate of progression on a whole not only level up all lot of factual errors too and bugs galore, but equipment given as rewards also made it crazy easy..I basically stuck with it cause I could mine the dil much faster in relation to other toons..

I think that would have gone over like a lead balloon for the 50th Anniversary.
