You may think that this simply means my personal money. No. This RNG TRIBBLE via R&D boxes for the Connie is really, really low. Particularly when they said for years that it wasn't going to be in game. Well, Cryptic, you've done it. I'm not going to play the game. I'm not going to convert dil. None of it.
I encourage anyone with any bit of sense to consider doing the same. This should be the icing on the TRIBBLE cake and the only way to stop it is to stop paying for it. If there are people with enough money to simultaneously get this ship and support the game via their contributions alone, then this game has become a game that is not designed for the $30 or so I can spend in a month.
I'm certain somebody will point out how "free" this TRIBBLE is. No, it's not. It's time out of your life that you will never get back for a non-account wide digital item. I would gladly pay 30 for each individual ship as opposed to this, but this is too much. Seriously, if you are thinking about spending money on this game, consider how much respect Cryptic has just showed for your hard-earned money. At what point does too much become too much? Well, for me, right now. I'm sorry that I ever bought anything in this game.
I hope you go TRIBBLE yourselves.

What? Someone had to ask.
Dude... its a game. Not only that, it is a licensed product that still has to answer to the guys who own the IP. If they say no to a C-Store release, then there is nothing Cryptic can do. As it is... a Promo release was probably the only way we'd get it at all, especially considering it is coming up on the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek.
It is not a matter of respect, it is a matter of business between the game developers and the IP holders. You no like? You don't have to try for one. Calling for people to quit over it is selfish and stupid.

Not sure this is as big a deal as you're making it out to be.
But by all means, go ahead and have a hissy over the fact that they've finally found a way to accomplish something that everyone has been hounding them for since beta.
You're not alone (i.e. not special).

A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"

"We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Just don't "buy in" to it!
I have too much money invested in this game to simply walk away from it, but I can keep the wallet closed if the need arises. Protest with your wallet. As much as I hate the business side of STO's practices, this is still my main source of entertainment.

I don't have all the ships available from boxes and the like- and I don't care, either. Every now and then I'll try my luck but it never exceeds what I can afford to lose.
Start by taking responsibility for your own actions- before you criticize anyone else's.
Being critical doesn't take skill. Being constructively critical- which is providing alternative solutions or suggestions to a demonstrated problem, however, does.
I want ur stuffz too!
But the OP at least has the right idea. If people don't like the RnG boxes, there is only one way to stop them and that's to not buy. Of course, that will never happen, so the point is moot. Instead, the entire community will get in an uproar over this, everyone will post that they're done, that they won't pay.. that they're outraged.. and then they'll spend thousands trying to get the ship anyway.
If these promotions weren't profitable, they wouldn't do them. If you have a problem with this type of promotion and you buy anyway then you're part of the problem. That simple.
I have to admit, I think it's kinda shady that they put the T6 Kelivin Connie in a lock box, squeezed the sales out of all those that figured 'this is as close as I'm going to get to a T6 Connie,' and then dropped this 2 months later. I have to admit, this time I can understand why people are pissed.
Guys. SRSLY. Guys. For realsies. I do NOT want his stuffz. I want a T6 Connie. And he clearly does not have one to give!
Forums aren't moderated anymore.
When was the last time you saw a thread locked? Mods went away about a week ago, this board is like Zone chat now.. nothing is out of bounds. Heck, there is a guy who made a thread to sell his account and nothing was done about it.. there are no rules anymore.
Say what you want, Cryptic doesn't care.
Oh that's a good one.

Well, lets find out..
Prove me wrong mods.. Prove me wrong!
And left the thread with the guy selling his account?
lol.. great job. We'll see what happens.. I'm guessing they all go on a 'holiday' over the T6 Connie rage.
I know I would if I were them. This place is going to be a rage zone for a while.

You might want to reread his OP. He did say he was not going to "play the game" and encouraged others to quit as well as if it was to be some kind of protest.

True, he just said he wouldn't buy, which is really the only sensible way to show your displeasure. Cryptic knows it's a highly desired ship, if the RnD Packs don't sell then they re-evaluate their methods.
Of course, we all know that won't happen, people will complain like crazy while swiping their credit cards over and over again trying for that .4% chance to win the ship. Cryptic knows how to ring out every last dollar.
Well, the account for sale thread has been open for a week tomorrow. As for the other forum rules, like I said.. if I mod wants to come along and prove me wrong.. great. Otherwise, it's the Thunder Dome in here boys and girls.. anything goes.
Only on the weekends.

Whether he leaves or not, I would think much much higher of him ... if he gave me a T6 Constitution!
