Not a fan of the angular secondary hull. But I love the nacelles and the redone saucer. It would be worth another lobi box for that ship. Or maybe the drops they do in R&D boxes.

Please, guys. Get Paramount's approval and pay this man whatever he wants.
Bridge is kinda cool (albeit somewhat too sterile; it needs some work). Otherwise, don't bother.

Eh... technically the Excelsior is still years off in universe. She was TMP era which puts her maybe 30 years away. It is an interesting take on using an existing design to make a new ship though.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

And I'm just glad to see that I'm not the only one who had the idea of the Vengeance being salvaged and used as the basis for a Kelvin Timeline Excelsior-class ship. I had envisioned it as basically a demilitarized and repurposed version of the Vengeance, with fewer weapons and more focused on peaceful long-range exploration.
Over at the Trekbbs forums, there's an artist who made a modification of the Vengeance. As he puts it, The brief behind the design is that Starfleet salvaged technology and parts from the wreckage of the USS Vengeance and used them to create this vessel.
Unfortunately, it is not possible because it is not officially licensed material from either CBS or Paramount. It is fan art.
Fan art is generally considered fine to be freely distributed for public consumption... unless you are speaking about Konami's CEO. That was the case in one instance where Konami isssued a copyright claim against fan art for Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain that was re-tweeted on Twitter by Hideo Kojima (there was bad blood between Komami's CEO and Kojima).
The artist who created the modified Vengeance would need to purchase an IP license from Paramount in order for him to even attempt to sell the design to Cryptic. If he attempts to sell the design, then Paramount and CBS could initiate a copyright and trademark infringement lawsuit against the artist. On the other hand, it should be perfectly fine if the artist donated the ship design to Cryptic in return for being credited with the ship design. However, if Cryptic decides make their own modification to the design, then if the changes were significant enough then Cryptic would not have to give any credit to the artist.
Cryptic trying to use ships made by fans?
Why yes, that worked SO well with the Enterprise-F contest.
I honestly don't think they want to try again any time soon. They may use some fan ships are a basic template and add/change stuff on them, but creating the whole ships by themselves will be faster, less complicated, both technically and juridically and cost less.
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic in some of this, but yes, the Enterprise-F was a successful run, and the sales seem to show that, along with the amount of use it gets.
He's referring to the hater backlash when the contest took place. Epic whining fest for everyone who didn't win or didn't like the design that did win. The vocal minority ruined the chance of anything similar happening again, as those sorts of people tend to ruin everything. Of course, it sold like hotcakes, so reality disproved the vocal minority's unreasonably strong opinion, as reality always does.
"I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am."
It seems fine, though personally I always kind of liked the Excelsior (and even the refit). It probably was the neck- I personally didn't like the Constitution so much because it looked kind of flimsy, what with its super-thin neck and stuff.
Now the T6 Excelsior... no. The Resolute, in my opinion, is one ugly ship XD
I recommend to the OP that they encourage the artist, by pointing them toward a career where they might practice their graphic art skills. Once within a game company, we might benefit from their fresh eye on established designs.

While it is a great design, it looks too much like the Sovereign imo, and less like the Vengeance or original Enterprise. Adding it as an option to the Vengeance therefore wouldn't make much sense since it's an entirely different and much sleeker design compared to ships of that period.
It looks like the kind of streamlined design that wouldn't be introduced for another 100-150 years or so. For a T6 Sovereign it might be ok, not for the Vengeance if you ask me.

This, I like it's design, very function over form in a good way
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

Why would we want more Excelsiors in the game? The three we already have should be removed or locked to T2 (including the hideous Resolute).
The only ship in ST more ugly than the Galaxy, and that's saying something.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Nice looking ship, I'd fly her. And holy warped nacelles! WHAT A FANTASTIC BRIDGE!!!
YOU of all dragons like the twisted JJ visuals?
@ topic: I'm personally not sold on it. Too few round things. Round things are good. It looks like your "usual" blocky post TNG fan ship that somehow almost all look like a Sovereign with more edges. Even with the Vengeance and alternate reality in mind I don't think the aesthetics fit the KT timeframe it's supposed to be in. I do like the general backstory although at the same time I dislike it because a lot of times people, even Cryptic, suggest Starfleet with members from hundreds of worlds is unable to come up with their own designs and permanently need to "salvage" external things to make capable ships.
^ Memory Alpha.org is not canon. It's a open wiki with arbitrary rules. Only what can be cited from an episode is. ^

Leaves me with a "meh". Not bad, but a lot of "more of the same". I'm not really sold that after adaption to STO this would be an improvement to ships we already have in the game.
(Not touching legal or financial stuff here, which would be another issue)

Opinions applicable to entire Fed fleet. The interesting ships come from addition or elimination of elements from the 2 nacelle, saucer, engineering hull combination of design elements.

While these opinions are factually correct from a Prime Timeline perspective, they are kind of moot in the Kelvin Timeline... especially from a STO perspective which justifies the presence of Konnie and Vengeance in game by stating that the changes brought about by Nero's incursion led Starfleet along a path that advanced their military research. Scans of the Narada, potential download of logs from the jellyfish before its destruction (there would be logic in doing this because with Nero having been captured by Klingons and being Romulan himself... KT Spock has no idea if knowledge of the advanced technology has fallen into enemy faction hands, and it makes sense to make copies of that information to maintain balance of power), and of course Prime Spock while not interfering in the personal choices of his counterparts... is unlikely not to have prepared a few leg ups when it comes to hurdles that cannot be crossed by conventional means (whale probe being an obvious candidate).
Heck for that matter, didn't the Vengeance itself already make use of tech from one or more of these sources?
So I think it is reasonable to assume that the timetable for more advanced technology and designs is shifted forward. I'm not suggesting that Starfleet Command starts churning out Sovereigns on the production line, I'm merely stating that looking at schematics/logs/technology may give Starfleet ideas about adapting what they know already (a bit like Miles Dyson in Terminator 2 - he couldn't replicate the CPU but it gave him design spec ideas), and the implication from Vengeance is that this has already begun.
Why would they pay someone, who is probably operating in a legal grey area by using the Excelsior name and basic design, to do a job that they already have hired people to do?
They'd just need to go to their artists, tell them "whip up a Kelvin-timeline model of the Excelsior" and they'd probably be able to come up with finished, working model, already compatible with their game engine and of a higher quality in a much shorter amount of time at a fraction of the cost than if they were to outsource design work to some random internet enthusiast.
I agree with this.
NO to ARC RIP KDF and PvP 2014-07-17 Season 9.5 - Death by Dev
I would like to add re your opening title that unless this person actually works for Paramount its none of their concern who cryptic hires to do artwork or any other job for that matter so there is no need to ask for their approval.
as for the design itself, who cares what the ship looks like its how it performs in combat that I care about and that is all down to the stats cryptic gives to the ship.
you could have the best possible looking ship in the game but if its stats are bad it will perform worse then a shuttle.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
