I'm happy because when the Kelvin introduction to the game was initially announced, there were a lot of JJ blowhards laughing at the players that have a built in hatred for JJ Trek, and lampooned them on the forums. Well, this is their punishment.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.
Gotta admit, it is poetic justice in that regard. At least the Vengeance is reachable for me. That was the only ship that I wanted. Now, time to stock up on Lobi to get it.

cryptic: "How can we Insult or offend our Players?
Idea: get the JJ ships in to Insult the fanboys
and make them Lock Box ships to offend anyone else!
Why? Because on the short run we will get a few quid more. And F### those who played the game for years!"
18 characters
KDF: 2 tacs, 2 engs, 3 scis
KDF Roms: 3 tacs, 1 eng, 1 scis
FED: 2 tacs, 1 eng, 2 scis
TOS: 1 tac
all on T5 rep (up to temporal)
all have mastered Intel tree (and some more specs Points)
highest DPS: 60.982
We'll prolly see Kelvin Timeline INSPIRED ships gracing the C-store once they have ones that fit within the various niches for sci/tac/eng specs, and so on.
So i'm not overly fussed.
Much as I called it, it still grates. Who gives a damn about the people complaining about the new Trek movies? They're still playing, and still paying. Plenty of people like the ships, plenty would buy the ships.
Instead, they're locked behind some asinine paywall/gambling scheme. All things said, Cryptic should be goddamed ashamed of themselves.

I kinda figured it would be in a Lock Box, so I'm simply... not surprised? In the end I'll open some if I feel like gambling for the heck of it, or not. Either way, we kinda knew there'd be some form of Lock Box with an Expansion inbound.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
I've been waiting for a top tier Constitution since launch, it was literally the only thing that would have got me to spend actual money on the game, but there's not a chance I'm going to gamble for it, especially if that means it's only available to one of my characters.
So yeah, I understand why they've done this, but it means they've cut off what would have been a pretty big source of income. I guess the hope is that there's enough whales to make up for it.
It was going to happen - because the goodies inside aren't from the Prime/STO Timeline, they weren't developed by our Starfleet/KDF/Romulan Star Empire. As such, it makes sense for them to be put in a lockbox..as with anything else that wasn't developed by the Prime Universe Alpha Quadrant powers.
Very good decision. This will give Cryptic a lot of money which they can use to improve and extend the game further. Exploration and a Voth faction just came a bit closer
And, at first, I thought it was a good way to keep the invasion of Kelvin assets to a minimum, but then I realised that we're flying Nicors, Herald ships and TS adapted destroyers so who cares that some ships from an alternate timeline will be added?
It's not like getting angry over this will change anything, anyway.
frankly I couldn't care less for KT ships overally - consoles, perks? maaaaaaaaaybe but ships themself - nah
gimmeh eternal....
[but then the emitter arrays and ground weapons seems nice - it would be even more nice if we could get DBB and/or omni counterpart of emiters.... one can dream huh?]
That's okay. I don't care either way whether there in the lockbox or not. They all end up on the exchange sometime. I'll just wait it out and buy my ship from there. Since half the players hate the "JJ trek" that just means the price on the "JJ-Prise" will be cheaper.
TRIBBLE all those JJ haters. The JJ verse movies are good and I'm going to see Beyond. Plus an Enterprise with ample nacelles, Aw, yeah!
Same man i was prepared to buy both ships, but now i wont have to nor will i spend another red cent on this bloody game.
Same here. I had $90.00 dollars ready for the 3 ships BUT they want the whales to have them. Whales have fun and I will spend the $90.00 on my family. This was the first time in a long time that I was going to spend money on this game.
Does not matter to me. I am not interested in the JJ ships, and it does not bother me if others like them.
When I create a toon I usually have a ship class in mind for them. Alternate universe ships don't usually fit that. At least for me. Other people, enjoy what works for you.

I like that they're in the lockbox/lobi store. I'd rather pay Energy Credits for them instead of Zen.
I get $5 in Zen once a month, but I can go to the exchange right now and turn 1 million EC into 200 million EC within the next three hours.
I'm happy with the decision.
Edit: And just for funsies, this is exactly what I did. This 200 million EC net gain has been earmarked for "Kelvin Timeline Spaceship" in my accounting books, and took around 3 hours to earn.

They hoped and prayed despite the fact that many of us told them otherwise the entire time.

I'm not a huge fan of lockboxes in general though.
