disappointed but I understand. however i don't understand for the clothes.
Cryptic should think more intensively to the way they want to earn money. i know that they have a bunch of whales, but sad to see that they don't think at the other players.
I'm not the biggest fan of the new movies but they aren't the worst movies I've paid to see either.
With that said, I still would have bought the ships had they been in the CStore. I like variety and these fit that criteria.
With them being Lockbox/Lobi ships, I cannot see myself ever getting them unless I happen to stumble on one on the Exchange that someone accidentally misses adding the right number of 0's to. Single character unlocks are just not for me. Account unlock or I mentally file it under doesn't exist.
Oh sure, I used to get some of the old "consolation prize" ships from time to time, like the Mirror T5's or a Malon or Kazon ship, but those are cheap enough so, meh. If they still did that with the new lockboxes I'd actually probably try for some of those "consolation prize" ships. But they don't, so I don't bother with newer LB's.
Happy to be saving money. Happy that I won't get rude tells from people telling me how atrocious the KT movies/ships are and how I'm a terrible person for supporting it. Happy to sell all my Kelvin LB's to folks that want them, for the right price.
Upset that I can't get what I consider good ships, especially that Klingon ship. Upset that Cryptic still won't offer an option to players that would allow them to turn Lockbox/Lobi ships into account unlocks. (which really isn't a complaint directly related to the Kelvin LB, but since it's the new one...)
Imagine buying the Vengeance for Lobi then purchasing a token or whatever they would want to call it to open it up as an account unlock. Sell it for say $20 or so and I'm betting there would be a ton of folks who would buy them. I know I would get a few. And they could do the same for the uniforms. Sell a uniform token for say $5. I'd see about acquiring some of the Lobi uniforms then.
So I guess I'd fall into the "other" category.
Hello. My name is iamynaught and I am an altaholic.
It's no surprise they are lockboxes. By their guidelines for lockbox ships, that's where they belong. I don't like lockboxes, though. But I have kinda resigned to their existence and deal with them.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
I don't understand why it's necessary, but I knew it would happen eventually...
Because CBS set the rules on Lockbox ships. And the Kelvin Universe ships fit perfectly into those rules. Plus, Cryptic and CBS know exactly how much money they'll make off them.

lol really? where's the proof of that? Other ST games have end game Constitution... there is nothing limited about ships in a lock box... they exist to make $ only for gambling.
I'm a bit bummed out by it, but at the same time I took a gamble that they would be lockbox ships. The zen/key promotion came up at a fortuitous moment and I bit the bullet and bought a bunch of keys. Now my EC wallet is maxed out and I'm ready to grab as much Kelvin stuff as I can at launch. However, I know many people cannot do this (military and a hardworking wife allow me a decent disposable income) and were hoping to buy the ships directly through the C-Store.
I imagine that regardless, Cryptic will make a huge sum of money, but I do feel for those who feel the ships out of reach. The best I can wish you is good luck if you gamble for one, and may your patience be rewarded should you await their arrival in an infinity lockbox down the road.
The bigger surprise, for me, was that the Nero Mining Ship only has one hangar bay slot. It had two, on the spoiler site that we were all supposed to pretend we didn't look at. That would have made this the first Romulan carrier to have two hangar bays, and the first Engineering ship of any faction to have two hangar bays. With one, there's nothing really exceptional about this ship. I could buy a Vastam Command Warbird for my account for thirty bucks, with no gambling involved.
If they wanted any more of my $$, should have been the C-Store not a lock box, I dont play that game, better odds in Vegas!
Well, at least a legitimate casino gives you the odds....
They sure do and it's better than 1 or less %. I feel sorry for the players who get caught up in this box game, there are rules and limits to a legitimate casino for players who cannot control themselves.
oh look, a DEV voted "happy/dont mind". i wonder why? maybe because he is getting paid because other people are gambling? but i bet he wouldnt feel the same if he were just a regular player.
Considering the structure of the game, and the controversial nature of the Kelvin Timeline, this was the best way to handle these items. This will keep them available to those who want them badly enough, but rare enough to not bother detractors too often. Honestly, I liked the J.J. Abrams films, but don't care for the look of those ships. I'll be getting my TOS fix from a Paladin in Ranger drag.
Like others have said,, my wallet is officially closed to STO. Which is a shame because I've been here since Day -7 and have spent BUTTLOADS of real $$ on this game. I'm not leaving the game, not a chance, but buying more stuff for real $? NOPE, those days are OVER!

Expected the lockbox tho, so I wasn't surprised.
Same man i was prepared to buy both ships, but now i wont have to nor will i spend another red cent on this bloody game.

Earlier the red mist was palpable, but now I am just disappointed.
Still looking forward to getting the Chronos, but that will be it for this expansion.
I approve.
