Something I'd like as well is the speed you are traveling to be added to the torp speed upon launch. It's ridiculous to overtake your volley because you are faster and with stuff like plasma torps it can actually be fatal! Add the ship speed to the torp speed and possibly add some sort of penetration mechanic where launching at full impulse gives increased shield pen? That could add a nice new twist to torp builds, allowing for dive bombing tactics against targets for extra damage.
One of the problems with torps is how their damage increases as you level.
At lvl 1-9 a single quantum torp does more damage than two beam arrays (full firing cycle on each). At lvl 60 a quantum torp is lucky to do as much damage as a shot from a single beam array.
Then there's of course the travel speed. At lvl 60 most things are dead before the torp even hits it's target.
The fire rate of weapons has a huge impact on their effectiveness. Outside of basic photon torpedoes, all the torps have pretty long fire rates. All the torps could use a 25% reduction rate to their firing cycle.
It'll be interesting to see if adding 5k HP to destructible torpedoes makes than any better.
No it wont as the problem isn't being shot down, its all the other bugs that make them unusable.With two speed boost to destructible torpedoes and a defense boost my destructible torpedoes are still next to useless. Even with x2 speed boosts a large amount of targets will die before the torpedo hits and to make matters worse a good selection of destructible torpedoes hit the target and vanish doing zero damage or stupidly low damage as in 100. Its also common for destructible torpedoes to fail to lock onto valid targets and just hang in space among all the other problems. I don't see how adding 5k hp will make destructible torpedoes useful, its the bugs and slow speed that ruin destructible torpedoes.
