Something I've been curious about since I've started playing this game.
In the Star Trek TV series in most combat situations the goal is to disable or destroy an enemy ship, I can understand that. But even during the Dominion War (I am re-watching DS9) when Captain Sisko and the crew run around on some planet or even on the Defiant in a death struggle with the Jem'Hadar their weapons are still on. Guess what? Heavy stun.
Pretty sure that's not actually the case, so there's that.
If stun setting leaves a glowing orange hole in someone's chest, who needs a kill setting?

Also Nog got his leg (half) blown off. And I'm pretty sure when Jake ran off that those land mines and mortar fire were not set to 'stun'...
Too hard to code different settings across different weapon types. Besides, don't everyone carry Breen type 3 disruptors as sidearms instead of those weak Federation hand phasers ?
I can't wait until STO server shutdown happens and the last episode is trendy and jodarkrider in a holodeck saying "And that's what running an STO MMORPG would've been like."

LOL But only if they also put the forums scrolling up the walls as they shut down the episode, so they get the full experience.

It's a video game convention where the mechanics step outside of the immersion in your head. You can suspend your disbelief, or you can have that illusion shattered. The onus is on you the player to deal with that unfortunately.
How else can we explore the galaxy? One must thoroughly explore how tough their personal shields, their personal resistances to various damage typs, and again for their ships. Not to mention how well they handle crowd control, and AoE effects.
The Space Magic resurrection of disintegrated people would've at least been a funny topic.
It's an expansion of transporter technology, everyone's pattern is copied and stored in the computer so you can still be revived if your ever vaporized
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

Yeah. I followed that until they did the sleep comparison. The brain does not shut down it goes into a memory saving mode. So not seeing the death comparison in sleeping.
Also the definitions and functions for transporters work the same way as warp speeds. They move at the speed of plot.

But you don't remember anything of it (most of the time). You go to sleep in the evening, and you wake up in the morning. Your body (including your brain) did "something", but your consciousness has no idea what it might have been.
You think there is a continuity of self, but objectively there wasn't. Something happened between your memory of going to bed and you waking up that your consciousness cannot account for.
So if someone had completely destroyed your body in the night and then created a perfect copy of you - did you die and were reborn? Did you die and someone new came into being the next morning?

Of course the penguins are real.
They're the players. We are holograms too.

STO is the best 40k mmo. Now, when do we get imperator titans for ground combat?
This, but unironically. I'll settle for more power armor in the environment suit slot.
That's what Furians do. With teacups!
My character Tsin'xing
Set swords to pommel. Set shotguns to bean bag.
And yet when my life demands I win the lottery... I am left bereft...
Not a prize you want.

Eat them before they eat you
But, is it really you?

Allegedly former CIA operatives use coffee mugs to set up ambushes, too.
