If They Made Star Trek Online 2, What Are Your Hopes/Expectations?

orondisorondis Member Posts: 1,447 Arc User
I'd personally hope the engine would be better and more optimized. It's bad that my computer can run the optimized Star Citizen without getting warm, but Star Trek Online requires me to open the windows (oh the horror!) Also hopefully easier for the devs to add new things that doesn't require system engineer time,

I'd hope they planned out the future of the game, with a sustainable method of income that doesn't require them to keep adding new and greater powers/ships.

I'd hope they cease to link your rank to your level. Just keep us at captain.

I'd hope ships were more permanent, especially when it comes to leveling.

I'd hope for the end of the trinity system. It never worked well for STO.

I'd expect it to be Fed only. Cryptic will probably have learned their lesson when it comes when it comes to factions. Hence the new TOS "Faction" basically being an extension of the Federation faction.

I'd expect it to be available on consoles also.

I'd expect a far more "simplified" UI and far less clicky powers. Something that can be played with a Xbox controller.

I'd expect a similar but dumbed down space and ground combat system. Probably/hopefully minus the BOff system.

Nothing, i simply wouldn't care to play it.

Ship class completely 100% separate and unrelated to boff seats, weapon slots, or anything else that has any effect on stats or performance.

First expectation? That it won't happen in the next year, maybe two.

Every MMO other than WoW has been forced to go F2P and use that model. STO2 would not be any different.

STO is better than for example SWTOR where you have to buy unlocks just to play the equivalent of queues.

I imagine something like space images such as EVE. Ground fights and visuals similar to SWTOR. A bit of the best out there but perhaps asking too much. It would actually be cool to sit on your bridge and actually do battles from there rather than from space.

Also, more borgs and sphere builders...who needs TOS?monkey-2.gif

    PvP.

The game was made for it. Optional, of course, so if you don't like it you don't have to queue. With peer matching so new guys don't go in facing the ten year veterans on their first try.

Really, while PvP was a small segment of the player base, those who participated in it were among the highest spenders in the game. Give PvP'ers a place to play and they will dump tons of money per PvP'er into the game.

The original design for STO where players could choose to be crew on someone's ship instead of everyone being their own Captain.

I disagree with quite a bit of your list sadly. To me the best version for STO 2.0 would be to delete the old data that has been designed past. The previous two versions of ESD the launcher backgrounds. They pop up every now and again as a glitch. Instead of 'JUST Fed and only Fed' They actually run three or better yet four expandable sides. Fed, KDF, RSE, And the unaffiliated. That fourth group is your Orions, Gorn, Letheans, and Ferengi. The people that sometimes ran against the other sides and sometimes with them. Fleet bases should not just have to be defended vs NPCs But PvP as well. So If 5 KDF line up for assault a fed base and 5 Fed line up to defend one it is a 20 on 20 match with 5 PCs to a side as well as the NPC's. Expansions via ships would have a remodel but similar stats on the three main groups. The unaffiliated fly all the oddball ships. So a bird of prey is Klingon, Galaxy for Feds, And warbirds for Roms. Sure the unaffiliated may get access to an uber ship now and again. But that makes up for them being oddballs and entices the other powers to have an alt on that side.

Initial missions for your Junior officers will be away teams and shuttle missions. Then when you reach Lt Commander you get your first tired work horse ship. That ship will be upgradable When you make Commander and again at Captain. Or you get transferred to a better class vessel.

All that said. I do not expect 2.0 anytime soon and do not want it yet.

If Star Trek Online 2.0 ever comes out, I'm going to be pissed. I've spent a lot of time and resources in this game.

Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

First off I'd be ticked that I'd likely lose everything I've spent over in STO 1.
Second off I'd expect and demand a complete overhaul of the basic mechanics.
Third as much as I like the story, need some major sand box elements.
    Fourth EXPLORATION!!!

All I'd hope for is that it's done by another developer and publisher. With a clearer vision of what they really want to provide to players in a Star Trek MMO. Cryptic gave it their best, but in the end, save for the art team's work, STO just feels mediocre. A well of untapped potential wasted on short term content cycles and marketing gimmicks.

They gave us a place to play. Unfortunately, XAR (Xenophobic Al Rivera) has elected not to support that gameplay in years. It was KDF dominated play and he hates Klingons.

That I'm still alive to play it.
Seeing how it probably won't happen for at least another 10 years.

This game will shutdown one day and a new ST will be made. What day that will be, who knows. But I've been there, and you just have to accept it because there is no refund in mmos.

Change the focus of the game so that acquiring SHIPS isn't the be all end all of the game. I could go into paragraph after paragraph of how to make this happen. But it would boil down to what most of us have demanded. More exploration, more diplomacy, more "Star Trek" feel to the game.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

My hopes for star trek online 2 would be actually that it does not get released in the first place.

I enjoy playing STO for four years now, at least for the most part. I’m not at all interested in starting in a new star trek game from scratch.

I probably could name a few concepts and ideas I'd like to see in STO 2.0, but meh. I guess I am getting old and don't really want to indulge in pipe dream fantasies anymore.

If they have to shut down the game, it seems Star Trek MMOs might not seem to have a future anymore. Unless it's something like SWG and TOR.
