Some Praise for the developers, and some ideas how to make this game better?

Hey everyone. Sometimes I'm nagging, bitching, about lags, dropouts, dodgy servers, dead screens and whatever annoys me.
Not today. Today I'm looking at this game and I'm seeing it's way more stable than only a month ago. Great job done by the developers.
If you read this: Thank you!

Then I was having a conversation about Star Trek Online, and I had some opinion about what I would like.
Nothing more just my opinion. What do you think, what would change STOL for you in a positive way?

I have an idea to make EXPLORATION and the whole game better! :-) I'll try to keep this brief:

The universe is BIG! The universe is largely UNEXPLORED. This creates suspense in the series, a meme on which the stories are based. Both concepts are not present enough in this game. I'm a romantic. I've read a huuuuuge amount of sci-fi. I've grown up before the internet was there. ;-)
When I play this game, I already know most of the galaxy after 2 months. What's left is to optimise my build, and get more stuff. That's not bad but it's a bit sad.

HOW TO SOLVE THIS?
1. There's two ways to solve that: Either expand the maps (not likely), orrr.... Make travel slower. I'd argue for the second. Travel in this game is "fast travel", the higher the level, the easier it is. I'm saying by limiting the time and easy to travel (say... beyond Federation space) the map would FEEL BIGGER. The game would be more MYSTERIOUS.
Sure, people will complain about not being able to travel instantly... But you can make it PARTIALLY accessible: The stories that we already did, the Dyson Sphere, the transwarp etc. all of that would still be there. Don't rob people of their favorite battlegrounds, but make the rest more random, unknown, and dangerous. Then add some unique rewards in the form of outfit, maybe a skin for the ship, maybe some weird space or ground pet or effects? Make these rare and create a lot of different ones. This will help make the character different. Then couple that to the story of Star Trek, that Federation Space is known, but beyond that, it's UNKNOWN and possibly hostile. It's a bit daft that anyone can go to Klingon space and not be challenged! It's boring to just fly around on a well known map and just pick a patrol you've done a couple of times already. Why not build in random dangers, outside of known Federation (or KDF or NRR) space. For example: An anomaly that your ship can get stuck in. An unknown opponent that damages your warp core so you'll have to travel back on low speed (two hours of real time!) and have it fixed. Then... to top it off.... change those things periodically. Put a black hole in one sector for a month, with some cool incentive, and then have it disappear. What I mean is... Right now it's too predictable.
2. There's many planets that have nothing going on. Please open these up? If only a city or a village or an outpost or whatever. It doesn't need a story, but it could be used for something.
3. Create some "user creative zones" where we can build a city, or a space station, or whatever. Minecraft but then on steroids with a structure, or part of a space station, or maybe a shop... create a player unique part of the game, that other players can visit, and see. Introduce new elements into the game that create another level of gameplay.
4. For my taste: this game is too much focussed on ONLY fighting. I love the foundry missions, I love the missions! Good job on those. I like the fighting too. But while it's cool it is repetitive. It feels like these stories are glued onto a space fighting game.
5. I like the idea of expanding the functionality of the ship interior. There's a standard interior in some ships (but not all which is weird - why does my alien science ship only have a bridge and my tier 4 Intrepid has EVERYTHING?) Part of Star Trek is about the crew, on a ship, influenced by outside events (missions). Why not write some stories that deal with the interior? There's a standard interior, so why not make use of that, and open that up for foundry and regular missions???
6. We need a "hail player" button on the right mouseclick. Chatting is not really working for me, if I say something, chances are the other guys and girls in the team will miss it. So I'd like to hail some friendly spaceship or ground character. I'm a social guy and love the interaction. The chat is too opaque I need more directness.
7. Why not make it possible to hail the enemy too (while you're at it)? Use the diplomacy skill level to negotiate a surrender? Minor point this one, but I just like more interaction.

So please: Make it more interesting for anyone, even the people that do have those epic weapons, to go out and explore. It will put STOL in the spotlight, competing with the current space sims (which say they are about exploring) but then with more flair and fantasy!

A.) Lots of stuff that wouldn't really be feasible for a game.
B.) This is a game. Not real world. Pretty sure most of us don't care about most of these.

Travel used to be a lot slower. It didn't increase immersion.

Yes on everything but 1 and 6, i agree with Snoggy on the travel times, and Gradii on the harrassment points, please, no.

The unused planets is a good point, however Cryptic writes only enough storyline etc. in this game to keep players from quiting for good, and only if it leads into some kind of grind zen purchases can expedite and/or sell ships.

    It's all about the zen(money), it's f2p, it's the way of things.

Snails experience real life with far more immersion than humans. Or so I'm told :D (So its a big fat no from me for the idea of 'slowing things down').

The rest of your idea's look interesting though :)

Edit: Why on Earth do you need a 'hail player' button? PM's are already built into the game.

How to make the game better? STOP NERFING MAH SCIENCE! serious my view of Borticus over the last few months has shifted from a guy wearing Q's robes with a grand Nagus staff and a blue pointy wizard hat to a Dr. Evil-esque guy sitting in his rolling chair behind his desk petting a gold-plated Nerfbat saying "Yes praise away you silly science players" followed by an evil laugh.

Party nullifiers should be removed from this game. Everyone is always happier dancing. Bunch of sad sacks in this game.

To expand on Nbreeki's idea I think it should be the Grand Nagus staff, and that all surrounding players line up and kiss it.

    1. Sector travel is already painful for levels where you can't slap borg engines on. Warp 5 means alt tab for 10 minutes to find yourself half way there.

Was there a mass ban that just expired?

All dancing and unwanted emotes shall be performed as the player who dances or performs emotes desires. NOT at the behest of another player.

What is fun for you is not ok when it interferes with another player's fun, At that point is it classified as HARRASSMENT and is actually Terms of Service Violation of which repeated offenses can get one BANNED from the game.

    Not this. Again.

As my following statement is one of the... rare... times I (sorta) agree with the "Ebul Dental Philosophy", I'll go on record as saying this:

If the Devs truly felt that the "disco balls" - properly named "subspace party amplifier", was such a "troll" on the playerbase, then they would either have never been introduced or their presence would have been removed by now.

Instead, the Devs created an "opt out" that uses, IIRC, the 100 lobi every player gets for "winning the Dabo" during the Devidian Arc, and a vendor that sells said "opt out" is available on the same map that the Dabo shows up in, and has "appropriately" advertised it (and it still gets advertised by us players).

Also, the Devs took... pains... to create a "party amplifier free" zone which was implemented around an appropriate area - the Spock Memorial on Vulcan...

Thusly, the "Party Amplifier" is not Trolling, harassment, or an interference in a given player's fun. Per the Devs.
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

I am doubtful that the devs would put a device in the game that would result in the banning of its own playerbase. If the devs thought the disco ball ect was harassing they have had ample opportunity to remove it.

What you imply from the devs actions has no bearing on the OBJECTIVE meaning of Harassment.

No offence, but your 'objective' definition of harassment is no more valid than dental's definition.

The fact remains that (as far as I know) nobody has ever in the history of discoballs being put in the game, has ever been banned from the game. If you have evidence of such a thing I am happy to look at it.

Your argument is cute, but misses the point. It is WRONG to do UNWANTED things to others. the fact cryptic has not added more disco ball like devices to the game speaks for itself, as does the existence of the nullifier.

Whether or not the game moderators do their job is irrelevant.

But I'm not worried becuase it's already been decided that more troll toys are not going to be added.

What does this have to do with anything? I made a simple suggestion in the thread, and you're getting worked up over something that will probably never (unfortunately) be implemented in the game.

The fundamental (and hardest for you, it seems) part of being a well-adjusted, functional human being is not getting too worried about imaginary items in your imaginary science fiction universe.

You guys want to prove you're just trying to spread a little fun, but you don't always know the good point at which to stop. This results in spreading MISERY instead of fun which is clearly not the intention.

One example of something you guys did which made me laugh my TRIBBLE off was the ships in social areas. That really didn't hurt anyone, and was just hillarious.

I didn't see any members of dental participating in the player killing nonsense using agony modulator, and that's a credit to you guys.

You just need to learn whats tasteful fun and what's not and know when to cut it out to keep it FUN.

I am still confused by your argument. If its 'wrong' to make people 'do' stuff (dance for instance), why would the developers put such a device in the game, and allow it to remain?

The nullifier exists yes, but that does not automatically confer that your aforementioned statement is correct. Unless you believe Cryptic as also 'wrong' for allowing the disco ball to continue to exist (or indeed for ever creating it).

P.s: Passive aggressive jibes such as 'cute' are unlikely to be conductive.

Slowing down travel would be mind numbing as there is no actual open world where anything can happen along the way. Slowing down travel for the sake of slowing down travel is a bad way to mimic expansiveness... Sector space is not like a wilderness in other games. I wish it were, but it's not. The less time I have to spend in it, the better, as it's practically purposeless beyond being a collection of Red Alerts and gameplay environment nodes, and the random craft item "loot chest."

Cryptic created the party nullifier. as long as the "Fun" is OPTIONAL it is ok.
