I knew I saw that on Borticus' screen while watching his last podcast with Trendy.
I almost made a thread to ask about it.

So looking at a ship no longer give any information about their gears? Not sure if I like that but personally I still welcome this function. Now personal visual preference and functionality are no longer compromises in some cases.
If I can just change the appearance of my antiproton beam arrays to fire phaser beams also, it will then make a perfectly authentic Starfleet vessel.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
If only this could be applied to the whole ship. There are a couple of zen and lock-box ships that I would never buy because of play style but I would maybe buy for their looks.

And while I see that the majority of players apparently like this... It is not something I ever found myself wanting or needing. Is it so strange that I am perfectly fine using whatever skin my current set is giving me? I mean, I don't know, I guess cosmetics is just not that important to me as the damage I put out, which with me takes precedence over all else.
YESSSSSSSSS!!! Been waiting for this ever since the Borg space set was first released!!!

Wouldn't a simpler and more efficient way of implementing this, be through ship visual unlocks by obtaining space sets? Then just add a tab to the ship tailor to mix and match and apply what the player likes, instead of riding up useful pieces of of equipment for visuals only.
One would guess that They took the easiest and most efficient route to add this to the game.
Also, one that is the least time consuming to create.

Um, I've been playing since the 2009 closed beta and in game, looking at another players ship HAS NEVER shown info about what gear they have equipped on it (I wish it did, but it never has). What STO game have you been playing?

This is even the exact method that several of us (myself included) have suggested ever since CO did this with their Aura Slots. That was one piece of tech that I badly wanted brought over here and now it's happening.
Forget the skill revamp, THIS is the feature I'm loving the most. Season 11.5: Space Barbie Reloaded.
Weapons could use such a feature. It's nice we have it, although I personally disable visuals anyway

Probably not, since (based on the description and function) these are just copies of your Deflector/Engine/Shield slots that overide the visuals from what's equipped in the "real" slots. Think add tab/copy/paste/pare down to visual effects only/set to highest visual priority/done. I don't know how much extra space this takes up over say adding the visuals as skins in the Tailor, but this implementation is clever in its simplicity.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

Seriously though, been waiting for this for years, like nearly everyone, so I think most of us will be happy about this one.

Yes yes yes! At last! Super stoked about this. Thanks guys.
One step closer to using whatever bridges we have unlocked on whatever shots we want
And now i have reason to grind for more interesting looking sets
but i could settle for this.
Implement this immediately, don't wait.

Now gotta replay Coliseum like 10 times.
Neither did it when the visuals were disabled which made this arguement pointless the moment it was brought into existence.
