Winter event, followed by the Anniversary event and going directly into the Breach event. And that is not to mention all the smaller events in between, there was a mirror event mixed in there somewhere and all the weekend events scattered throughout the entire time.
"Keeping us busy" at this point, is an understatement. I am more resilient to burnout than most, able to grind for hours at a time, reaping the fruits of my labors with joy and pride. But this, this event fatigue is starting to take its toll, more than starting in fact, more like it is taken hold and begun to create resentment.
I can hardly see any reprieve either as soon the spring event will come and with it a new string of tasks to take up.
Honestly I have come to know this as a punishment, a punishment that has a reward attached to it. It is bittersweet, really. I have gotten much dilithium ore, much marks, a ship and with it an admiralty card, another admiralty card and tons of experience. What more could a player ask for? On the other hand, I have had to play innumerable hours, days even, just to keep up, often depriving myself of the things that make life interesting, friends, family, the sun on my back, the wind on my face.
Are the admiralty ships really worth sacrificing life itself? To what end? More dilithium? More energy credits? And for what? So that I can say I am wealthy in-game?
You have backed me into a corner Cryptic, you have backed us ALL into a corner. I am soon to break. And with all my resiliency, imagine all those who are already broken.... What have YOU lost Cryptic? What you think that the players are the only ones to suffer these events? No, I think not. You too, Cryptic, have paid a price.
When will this madness end? Casualties on both sides are high right now. Can we have some peace soon? A respite, a ceasefire even? Even for just a little bit? A time to let our wounds heal so that we can again later pick up our keyboards and with everything we have, fight again?
That's their plan to keep the revolving door going - Event to Event to Event. Remember after this one, they'll be 'Federation Day' (in April) and it's KDF counterpart - and I'm sure we'll have another event then. Again, the only way Cryptic maxes cash flow is to get the next 'carrot' in front of the masses - and they've found these type of constant (nearly year round now) work to draw in the casual players. It's also one of the main reasons for the skill revamp <-- make it so an ultra casual doesn't really need to think, he/she just need to click along the colored path.
Again, in the end, this is a for profit business and nearly every decision is done in an attempt to maintain/increase cashflow. If you're enjoying yourself, that's of course a plus - but 'player enjoyment' is a secondary byproduct. cryptic is constantly trying to push the fine line between enjoyment/frustration in the hopes that you'll occasionally 'pay for convenience' and throw real cash at the game occasionally in addition to grinding/converting Dilithium to Zen (or vice-versa) on the Exchange.

Try ISA fatigue - the boring, unchallenging BFAW paradise that WAY too many players obsess over. Rarely go near that waste of pixels anymore.
Then why do you keep bringing it up?
Why shouldn't I? So it's okay for players to post about their uber DPS scores from the most predictable, overplayed, piece of content in the game but it isn't okay for someone to say they don't like it?
Well the difference between you and those „WAY too many players“ seems to be that they enjoy themselves in ISA while you don’t.
There could be an easy solution which helped me with disliked maps like Undine Assault, Storming the Spire or this very event map. Instead of playing them rarely I don’t play them at all, don’t even think about them! There aren’t even any incentives game sided for you to even consider playing ISA like I currently face in Breach.
Works wonders and would spare you the need to make two forum posts a day intensifying your negativity about game content you dislike.

Do you guys realize you can skip the first trench run and save 5mins a run ?
You're talking about cheating, sir.
No I presume he talks about a strategic approach which has been cleared by Starfleet Command. It saves lives during the engagement on both sides of the struggle.
My chief medical officer currently postulates that this approach also reduces the duration of event fatigue by at least 5 minutes times number of captains running it.
Admiral Connor is very pleased about this. He likes situations which lead to mutual benefits for everybody involved and without any moral implications!

I don't play it - but that doesn't mean that I am suddenly forbidden to express a negative opinion of it. Again, if discussion pertaining to DPS scores and how fast it can be completed are permitted, I'll continue to express my dislike of it.
Saying that, I rarely play ANY content anymore. Watching BFAW spammers make a mockery of just about everything became too much for me.
It was not my intention to forbid you anything but rather to help you out of state of obvious unhappyness.
As pointed out to you on other occasions there are alternatives to beam fire at will available in ISA and the rest of the game. On other maps they are even more powerful than fire at will. What I just seem not to get is why instead of utilizing those and emphasizing on them as well as the respective contend you rather keep on pointing towards a map you don’t like to play in a fashion others obviously do.
And since you don’t like that map in the first place it does not make any sense for me.

And since you don’t like that map in the first place it does not make any sense for me.
I know there are alternative. However, my experience when playing it was that I entered the instance in my Sci ship and then watched BFAW spammers vape everything in seconds. I mean, yeah I was firing torpedoes and using sci abilities - but the targets were dead long before my torpedoes got anywhere near them. And GWIII is no good either if nothing is alive to be held by it. Add to that the fact that these instances lasted, at best, three minutes - in many cases that basically means that fancy special abilities can only be used a grand total of once.
Perhaps I am unlucky in finding myself in teams that do this the majority of time, but sadly I did. And watching others vape everything on a map in a matter of seconds whilst I flew around hoping that at least one my torpedoes might hit something before it dies was enough to put me off playing in any meaningful way anymore.
Well the problem is often in oneself. How would someone like to play the game and how can one play the game. When I try to remember all your posts the following info sticks to memory.
- You want to play a sci toon.
- You want to use beams but not faw.
- You want to use torpedoes and are willing to use area attacks like torpedo spread there (why there and not on beams?).
- You want to use a canon build .
- Your favorite ship is a Tier 5 U craft
- You want to put a total gear and probably trait emphasis on sci abilities (meaning other areas of the ship can’t utilize the best options available).
Now in ISA or most of the maps I’m familiar with one may have difficulties to compete in the DPS scale with players who are not limited by any restrictions and simply use the Tier 6 engineering scimitar meta build on a Tac toon.
But it is far from impossible! The question is just how many compromises is one willing to make. Now I actually do most of the above mentioned things myself and have no trouble playing a highly influential role on 9/10 runs I do. I have just distributed those aspects over 9 toons. I just would not do them all on one toon because even though I like them and made them part of my game experience they are limiting and, if added up, may be too limiting under the current meta.
Would you consider compromises and what would they be?
If yes I’m certain you can reach a position where scim meta builds will stop to annoy you. If not I sadly could not think of any and where it’s probably best to accept that the game is how it is.

@tacticalrook Yeah I'm not seeing it as cheating good sir. Was it the intention of the Devs to allow people to skip the first trench run ? Probably not. But its there for people to use. One could even theorize the Devs purposefully added this shortcut for players running a lot of alts. I know that's far fetched, but I've not heard any comments by Devs stating otherwise.
I hope those who really are having a bout of Event fatigue figure out this little time saver. It adds up for someone running 5 or more alts. Anyway was just trying to be helpful.
Furthur I always ask the team if its okay to skip the trench, 100% of people I've teamed with in the DPS channels approve.
Also if this is cheating in the strictest sense of the word, so too would be afk'ing mirror, but that's a different kettle of fish, with different dynamics.
And I like the way Admiral Connor puts it. In that this is more of a backdoor assault rather then a full frontal one. With far less potential for collateral damage.

Well, no Emergency Maintenance! or anything yet, so it can't be that bad a cheat at least. Still, I wouldn't expect it to still work when the event runs next time.
We'll see what they do or say warpangle. In the meantime, still takes a while with the shortcut. Just ran 5 alts through tba (all with the shortcut). Still took about an hour.

I would say that definition of metrics doesn't quite go far enough to explain what the devs would be looking for.
Metrics for a game like STO would be analyzing data gleaned from the game database to look for important or unusual trends, expressed as numbers, percentages, etc.
Like, how many people have played "Into The Breach" since the event started? Has participation increased or decreased over time? When was the queue most/least active? How long does each run take on average? Are they getting completed faster now and if so how much faster? How many people leave the event before completion?

Yes, it's measurement. But it's also analysis.
just so they can go to their bosses and say we revamped the breach and the players love it.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
- You want to use torpedoes and are willing to use area attacks like torpedo spread there (why there and not on beams?).
Torpedo Spread affects one volley. Not 15 seconds of torpedo fire. You can't get 50% up time on torpedo spread like you can with I-don't-need-to-target-or-move BFAW.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the thread was closed because it had gone off topic, by people such as yourselves 'attempting' to be a moderator. As for calling me names (troll ect) anybody on this forum can easily search your past posts.
Your past posts reveal a certain pattern of behaviour in which you enter a thread, attempt to moderate it, and then attempt to derail it when nobody listens to you (by calling them a troll, calling the thread a 'troll thread' ect.)
For somebody who signed up to the forums a few days ago you certainly have a big mouth and appear well versed in how to derail threads. You remind me of a certain person who 'left' a while ago.
So I am giving you a head's up that everybody can see right through you, and you post history/behaviour supports this.
@stobg2015 Actually, what Cryptic is doing is analyzing metadata, a real analysis would answer questions like:
Why are the players playing it so much, freebie grind should not be the primary answer, especially when there is not so much competing in game content to the event.
Why are players not playing it, what is thier substitute, especially in game, or do certain accounts log in less or more when the event is active, and the whys?
I am suggesting that Cryptics "analysis" is using a two dimensional table for thier analysis, instead of a multifaceted 3d or greater table, that can be drilled down on.
My take in these events is that they are being used to replace actual content, that would tell more of the Star Trek story, and not be repeated ad nauseum as a goal.
When do these events become more of a chore , for chasing the carrot, than content that adds "utility", other than the carrot?
When events like these grinds are introduced as content, the players are given the impressikn that they will "lose out" if they dont grind the full amount, not that they will miss out on higher content that will make them feel like they are experiencing, or are a part of, the ST universe(at least for a while).
I found that the weekend provided a much need break from the normal routine of work / eat / STO / sleep during the weekday. Even though I was still grinding the event over the weekend I did other things besides work so it provided enough of a break from the routine that I no long feel the event fatigue now.
As for the exploit that allows players to skip most of the trench run... I actually don't mind it especially if it shaves off about 4 minutes on the mission. If I was only playing this event on 1 captain, then the 4 minutes is not a big deal. But I am running 9 captains through this event. That shaves off about 36 minutes devoted to this grind per day.
I need to play this event 4 more times to finish the event and collect my reward. That means over the course of 4 days I can shave off a total of 144 minutes from the event; or 2.4 hours. If the exploit get fixed on Thursday, then so be it.
I only found out how the exploit was done a couple of days ago myself. I stepped away during the beginning of the mission (where everyone needs to wait for the timer) to get something to drink. It took longer than expected so when I returned to the game I was able to see how one player bypassed an invisible wall that allowed her / him to skip the tail end of the trench run.
the thread was closed because it had gone off topic
I see a few off-topic and hostile posts going on in this thread. Not a mod anymore, but anybody can flag posts that break the rules now. So can we please stop the backbiting and threadjacking?
I have to agree. These events can have the effect of abusing the dedicated players.
This breach event is more soul-sucking than usual. Not is it only a huge grind for the shiney, but the map is particularly bad for pugs. The voth dreadnought dps sponge is the place where pugs go to die. There is no cd if you leave, so players are bailing at the first sign of trouble. It is not fun to sit there pounding on the ship for several minutes because players leave. If you restart then you have to do the trench run again. The map is too complicated, and the escape or die countdown is bogus. All the walls look the same, there are random teleports and there is a false doorway. Maybe it was fun the few times. The reward is somewhat better than a blue ground weapon, but it is still not good enough to make me grind it out.
How about an event where you can play one of several choices for the reward? That way players could play a variety of things and not get so burned out.
Generally the game is too hostile to solo players. Forcing players into teams of misfits for a grind does not make for fun. If a solo map was available then it would be very popular. There are also battlezones where the solo player is penalized. I have no problem with players that want to team, just don't try to force people into it. Linking social behavior to game rewards just gives players grief. Many a bad stf pug or fleet drama could have been avoided by giving people solo options.
I got my main project reward tonight with my first character, I have 2 characters that need 1 more run and 3 characters that need 2 more runs.
I will do a few more runs for bonuses after that.
initially I didn't think I was going to enjoy this event and didn't think I was going to be able to stay the course with my 6 characters but in actual fact once I got used to the map it has been fun.
don't think I would have done it with more then 6 characters though just because of the time it takes but I found it a refreshing change to the mindless pew pew of crystalline, it was nice to have a map where you had to think of where you are, where you need to go next and the objectives you have to accomplish once you get there and at least there were no fixed times like there is on mirror so once you have completed your objective you can move on strait away without having to wait for the timer to run out.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

More of an exploit, then. Still frowned-upon.
I see a few off-topic and hostile posts going on in this thread. Not a mod anymore, but anybody can flag posts that break the rules now. So can we please stop the backbiting and threadjacking?
No reply necessary.
