The "Exclusivity" aspect of the Winter/Summer events probably hurt metrics more than they helped. Now people go into the Winter event, get their ship, and scram out of there, as before you saw a lot more people because new players were trying to get more than 1 ship. No player in this game ever complained about others having a chance to grind for for the same stuff they grinded for.
Frankly, giving newer player a chance to get those ships actually helps them feel like they have something nice for end game play. The Kobali Samsar and the Breen Carrier are both awesome ships and I use the Carrier with all its toys (Breen consoles) on alts. Working to get the full Breen set on them.
Funny that the Gravimetric Doff, Mariah Kilara Marr, that creates aftershock Tykens Rifts, that was awarded as the 'Shiney' in the Crystalline Event of October 2013, is now available in some Doff Packs. You can purchase her on the Exchange for starting at 15 million EC.
Exclusivity, my posterior.
Wow she's gone up in price a lot. Glad I got that one cheap for my newer drain toon.

AFAIK she isn't in any doffpacks. Those are the original MKM's from the event. She was awarded as tradeable.
It's a shame other rewards didn't do the same. Being able to sell the reward if you don't need it yourself would encourage more players to play the events.

Compared to the original form 1,000 tokens per toon, definitely. Compared to the discounted form 1,000 token per account, probably.
I have not seen Mariah in Doff Packs personally but it was reported by @warmaker001b on a different Thread that she was added into the Reinforcement Duty Officer Pack. I did look at her yesterday on a Character I did grind for her on and she is not Bound (obviously never having assigned her).

indeed I could see the sense in retiring the tokens to stop players hording but retiring past ships didn't make an awful lot of sense other then maybe the fact that it may have got a bit silly in future times if say sto was to last for say another 10 years then newer players would have their work cut out for them getting all of the ships and sto would effectively been giving away about 45 ships (not counting the free levelling ships) to every new player that joined so not much incentive for them to buy ships perhaps so maybe cryptic did a bit of forward thinking and thought now was a good time to remove that feature.
I guess we may never know the real reason cryptic removed past ships from event if it is as they stated or some other unknown reason, we can only take their word for it that it is as they said and leave it at that.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
While I don't mind the CC event since it's not alt unfriendly. I'd gladly pay a 50K dil tax (the reward for one toon) just to get the admirality card on my alts.
Daily lasts 5 minutes = Awesome event
10 minutes = Lets get to work
15 minutes = This is a bit sluggish
20 minutes or more = Kill me now
^ This. So much this.
It's worth noting though '5 minute mission' for an event is very different than saying the mission is good/bad in its own right.
Do we actually know that you don't get the admiralty card account wide? The language on this event seems very similar to the Anniversary event and I wouldn't feel certain that any character after the first is going to get all the currency instead of just unlocking the bonus daily turn-in account wide.
At least they explained what comes after this time -- pretty much all I asked for after the kerfluffle with having thousands of anniversary tokens tied up in event projects that didn't actually do anything after the first character on my account finished.
Going by both history of how this style of event is run and the language, it's not an account unlock. Who knows, we might get lucky and see these 'lesser' events follow a similar route to the major ones in the future.
As for 'what comes after', it was the same as previous Summer and Winter events in that there was another project unlocked which took in the daily amounts of 'vouchers/tokens'. I don't think it was expressly stated in the Anniversary announcements (I did a cursory check, just in case) though this could be a recommendation for improvement, especially for any newer players.
I don't get why people wouldn't want an account unlock on the event item. It doesn't stop you from queueing the 'base' project and getting the dilith and other rewards on every toon if you feel the need/want to do so (same works for the Anniversary/Summer/Winter events, actually...) while providing some much needed flexibility to those players who've invested in the game to have a larger number of additional characters without forcing them to have to decide if they are willing to accept missing out on some of their characters. The mention of a '50K dilith tax' from missing out on the dilith reward is only part of it when you think about it in these terms, those players are missing out on the dilith and marks, sure, but they're also going to be down a whole load of other resources if they have to pay for doff packs (for example) or go to the exchange as things sit currently. The cynic in me will be completely unsurprised if nothing changes purely on that basis.
In fact, in order to keep the business model, perhaps the account unlock could be made to last the duration of the event? Keeps the players happy, keeps Cryptic/PWE happy, and still allows them to open it up to new accounts through the pay-gate later.

Exclusivity, my posterior.
Exclusivity in MMO's in generally a bad thing, predominantly where an item of any nature has a mechanical effect. It restricts builds, designs and player freedom and if there's enough of it, can intimidate new players from joining. You want exclusivity, sure, make it aesthetic (a mark of 'you were there during 'x' thing' is all you really want, right?) and leave it there. Instead, by working through an event, you got an item with potential mechanical benefits without the attached cost of Zen/dilith or millions of ECs. It's a complete non-argument to whine about that and if this is Cryptics go-to resolution to balance reward exclusivity, I'm actually all for it and think they've made an excellent decision here.
Just think, with Mariah as an example. If you wanted a drain toon built with her in mind and she were completely exclusive, you've have to respec an existing toon with her already available as opposed to just starting a new one and keeping the other build intact.
What everyone buying Zen are really saying while all these bugs are still floating freely:
I get that for people argue thats its bad for it hurt metrics, But i mean come on if you have to grind to get stuff on all my toons you dont enjoy things. For me i got 48 toons. I reached my limit at 25 for this event. but i am playing all day anyway regardless if its an event or not. and now they have changed the summer and winter events I CAN do those events and enjoy the game. its my understand that that holiday season anyway people got stuff to do so we get longer, these events are shorter. and yet i am overwhelmed with projects i can not finish for mirror or CCA.
LOL, you obviously didn't read this thread and it's not even on multiple pages yet
Think about it.
You just made my day there buddy.
How about reading the thread before replying? Maybe?
Maybe think about it?
Think about reading the thread?
I'll give you some time to think about it.
I did in fact read the thread, and it IS about Dilithium, Energy Credits, and Economy, not just about the SHINY.
You see, the SHINY is so SHINY that it is going to facilitate players the ability to generate more dilithium by sliding past Admiralty quests. This is why it cant simply be an account wide unlock that someone can pick up 60 times after investing an hour of gameplay. If it were, then it would potentially propel people through the admiralty system faster, empowering them to generate more resources, which would inturn devalue said resources.
Again I ask you: Is this what you really want? - How will this benefit you?
Account unlocks might sound good to you, but they are a Bad Idea, because they would Inflate The Economy until your Dilithium Was Worth Nothing.
Remember when the ratio wasn't 305:1? Remember when a Lockbox Key didn't cost 4.5 million credits? I do. As long as Account Unlocks continue, this ratio will only get worse.

How does an antiproton torpedo do the same, though? Or a shotgun? Or just about anything else that isn't the Tanius?
Besides which, I do believe you're overstating that one ship's value.
Edit: Err, I mean 'vy caant Yu see my font?'. Can't have me speaking coherently during this particular outage. (UHH. 'Vust fop fooing dat.')
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.

I must not be overstating it too much, obviously people find it good enough to 'grind' for an their alts or they wouldn't lament over it.
I find anything except the crystalline shard pet to be 'good enough to grind for my alts'. Even 50k dilithium, if I can manage it, but that I can part with.

I'm personally doing it only on my one main toon...
Maybe i got my opinion skewed by my first run - 25 minutes
(mainly because it was actually my first try on that mission, so i did not know how to make through it on max speed).
And while the card is nice, it's does not hold the candle to other epic cards - i think.
You think im playing the event for the admiralty card? Not really its really for the dil and the marks , my alts earn most of there marks for whichever rep there working on . im not doing it on all my alts either .
This event is the best thing cryptic has offered me in a long time, it makes dil stashing easy across alts and I can get the 3000 marks I need to buy space sets without having to subject myself to runs that I don't prefer to play.
As far as 'grinds' go - this is the most generous that Cryptic could get, I am confused at how people don't see it this way.
I started it on just one KDF cap due to her having a few less admiralty cards as the rest of my caps. As much as I like the Breach, I decided after the first time that it's too lengthy to run for all 5 of my caps. Then, after the second time, I decided that I couldn't be arsed with 12 more times of this just for an admiralty card.
I make a minimum of 150k dil every 10-11 days from ToD Admiralty missions...that's without the Dil events like Contract, Lucky Vein, or the 500 Dil ones that come along on the daily path to the ToD set & forget. Just for spending a minute or two per toon clicking some tabs.
If the event were an actual ship, then I'd be more motivated. But just a card, some marks I don't need, and some unrefined Dil that I can outpace for a lot less effort? Just can't get into this time around.

Not me. I care more in general about the other, past and future event shinies than this one and the card. I've only ran Time and Tide once on my newest character for the Pastak, and I was also doing it for the spec point.
I have the Delta Pack and a few C-Store ships, and don't bother to do Admiralty every day. I'd like Cryptic to make the unlock account-wide to set the precedent for the next event.

I took a moment to investigate a claim a few people made about the language in the announcements being similar and it 'should' work as an account unlock, even with that being completely counter to every other event of this nature so far... So to compare, the Anniversary announcement of the Krennim ship.
Second paragraph in, it's states it nice and clearly: "Once this starship is obtained by any character on your account, any characters on this account can claim the Krenim Science Vessel from the Account Claim tab within the Event Store (in the Event Reputation window)".
By comparison, the Breach announcement: After collecting 14 of them, players can complete a new Event Reputation project to be rewarded with 50,000 Dilithium Ore, 500 Fleet Marks, and 250 Marks of their choice'...'and a brand new T6 Admiralty Ship Card: The V.S.S. Tanius. With no such mention at all.
