Throughout the thread I am reading several comments along the lines of "unwilling to schedule a 15 minute slot to complete the event" etc.
My wife is disabled and I am her main carer, this means that whilst I may in theory be able to grab 15-20 minutes here or there throughout the day. I definitely can not schedule my day with any degree of certainty - unfortunately my wife's condition does not operate on a strict timetable and she may need assistance or medication randomly during the day. Whilst I realise that this is nowhere near being a valid reason for any event to be extended nor would I request that this be the case, however I do find the reasoning of some posters that everyone should be able to schedule time to play a game every day somewhat unreasonable and sincerely hope that they never have to deal with circumstances that interfere with their ability to organise their lives to such a degree.
you do realise you don't have to do the omega mission all in one hit, you can spread it out over your day, as you say you can grab time here and there so do what you can and then do a little more at a later time and finish up even later and the best part is the cooldown for the mission is from when you first pick up the event not when you complete it so it doesn't matter what time you complete the mission and get your reward, you can still pick up the mission the next day as you did the day before.
or even if the worst comes to the worst spread the mission over two days on the odd occasion, with only 15 omega missions needed to get the ship you had plenty of spare days you could have done this.
I even finish a mission from the previous day and picked up that days mission right away after myself once or twice.
I do realise that the missions can be completed this way and have done so regularly, however the point to my post was not to provide a reason for my not having completed the event (which I have actually managed to do in any case) but rather to point out that to claim everyone should be able to schedule time each day is unreasonable especially when personal circumstances are unknown. In some cases it is feasible that the external disruptions to connectivity have coincided with the only time available to some players and therefore would be a contributing factor. Just because Player A can wait until the disruption is over doesn't mean that Player B can do the same.
There's no chance Cryptic will add a 4 - 8 week extension like some of you are saying you need with your 1 day in 4 / 1 day in 5 completions.
We had no where near as many problems last year and they did an extension. With it being way worse this year how can you be so sure they will not extend?
But you're saying you need 5 days to get 1 completion. If that isn't wild exaggeration then you will only manage 5-6 completions in the 27 days, and will need another 48 days to get 15.
Some days the crashing seems worse then others. Near the start of the event it was really bad and it took 5 days and 50+ map transfer crash's to get a completion. Its not as bad now and there is also a work around to reduce the map transfer crash bug but it only reduces the problem not elements it. It took over 2 hours but I managed to get todays run in after a few crash's.

i appreciate the situation your in, and as you quite rightly say, there are clearly genuine situations that would effect an individuals ability to schedule this time, however, people like yourself understand that real life responsibility comes 1st, and fully accept that on occasion this will exclude your participation in things. i don't think i have ever seen a thread, or even a comment in a thread, from someone attempting to blame a game for any conflict of priorities when in a carers role, during a serious illness, experiencing a bereavement, or in a state of turmoil.
i would like to think, that those of us who are saying an extension isn't needed, are all thinking more in the lines of the following..
i don't think for a moment that any of those complaining and requesting extensions are in the same position as you. they are almost certainly players who either decided to start late, or, are players who had no interest in a 'science ship' until they discovered they needed the console for their new flagship.. i guess the latter should really no better.. last minute . com is great for cheap flights but in an online game.. especially sto.. rather silly move. as for the latter, i find it very interesting that posts.. including this 1.. started appearing just after the announcement of the new ships, and not immediately after the initial few ddos occurred in the previous week.
food for thought eh?
sorry if anything i have said previously, in any way, intimated that i am not mindful or aware that there are genuine people, and genuine reasons for scheduling issues. i just don't believe that is what we are dealing with here, and it was to them, i was directing my comments.

No offence taken and for my part I welcome the fact that you have taken the time to clarify your position. I am not seeking sympathy or pity, the decision to quit my job and become my wife's carer was my own and I stand by it. The conflict of priorities doesn't exist in my case, I would rather take the AFK's or leavers penalty than not respond when my wife needs assistance or medication, besides the borg etc are always ready to recieve my small contribution to their slow march towards extinction when I do manage to get online.
With regard to the topic at hand, I agree that extensions are not warranted where players simply joined the party at a time when it was obvious that completion was going to require a committed effort. I also can see the truth in the fact that the majority of voices were raised after the T6 Flagship launch etc. In all honesty, given the amount of giveaways and events we get from STO the majority of players should be aware that items are often themed or linked.
Again, whilst I do empathise with those experiencing difficulty due to any issues with map changes or technical problems relating to graphics drivers etc - to grant an extension whilst these are investigated would be a non-starter as the event can't be run ad-infinitum, at best I would say that a better solution would be to request the option to complete the task at a later date perhaps during the Star Trek Anniversary.
There's a saying I'm reminded of here which goes something like...
"You snooze, you lose."
It's not you- it's me. I just need my space.
Being critical doesn't take skill. Being constructively critical- which is providing alternative solutions or suggestions to a demonstrated problem, however, does.

I think if every time I play something happens to stop me playing I would begin to think that it was just fate that I would never get the ship.
asking for extra days is not the answer, if I cant do it in the time allowed with all of the extra days that are built in already chances are I will still not be able to do it regardless of how many extra days they allow unless I can reschedule to a different time slot where it is less likely for anything to stop me playing and if I can reschedule now why did I not try that earlier.
at the end of the day unless the servers themselves go down for a highly extended period it is unlikely for cryptic to extend the event and even then only by one day.
if there are outside forces that are stopping you from playing be it your own life responsibilities or some other outside force it is unlikely for cryptic to extend the event.

as I have said before and still waiting for an answer, if the map transfer bug is the thing that is stopping you from playing and they have not fixed the bug what good will it be extending the event.
as the event is run for 27 days and you need 15 days to get the ship this leaves 12 days extra, if you cant get the required rewards to get the ship in those 12 days what difference will extending the event by a day or two make.

When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Well its been half fixed as there is a work around to reduce the crashing. I would have thought 27 days should be more then enough time to fix the bug, role out the patch and extend the event 7days. It should be classed as a critical bug as having a bunch of players unable to play your MMO for 1 month is serious. That's the type of bug that should get a hot fix pretty sharp ish.
Yes, for those saying they could only do it 1 day in 4 or 5 they would need an extension of a month or more.
Since that's not going to happen, the choices are: spend lobi, or accept that your life outside of STO will not let you complete the event.
For many of us its not our life outside STO that is causing the problem so why should we accept that as the cause? Its a critical bug that needs fixing and should have been fixed by now.

well like I have said before I really hope you get your extension, I would not bank on it being 7 days though if you do, maybe 1 or 2 days maybe.
you will have to wait to find out, my only advise is don't be surprised to find you don't get any.

I don't think anyone is at all saying that people in your situation are at fault for anything, as was clarified earlier. But I do want to chime in, and say that I genuinely feel for you - illness, disability, and so on is something that affects all of us in some way or another, either through ourselves or someone we love. Being the provider for someone you love is a very noble, and caring, thing to do.
The main counter-point to this thread, I'd think, is against the general complaints that pop up every time a limited time event starts up. "It's too short," "X happened so I demand a time extension," or "I have Y specific gameplay problem so I demand a time extension."
Why do you keep saying we had plenty of spare days when some of us haven't due to the map transfer bug? How could people with the bug have done this?
As I said earlier, the PC I'm using now gets the map transfer bug (the PC I used before for maybe the first 5 days of the event, did not). So I did in fact finish the event while dealing with the map transfer bug for the majority of the time. And it took me, on a bad day, maybe 30min to complete - 45min if the STO restart was being particularly slow.
since no one else has bothered leaving a comment I would like to say thank you to cryptic for extending the event.
although personally I did not need this for the ship as I got that on the 15th day of the event I appreciate the extra time to have a chance to gain some more upgrades.
even though you have only given 2 extra days instead of the week or more some players requested this is more then I expected as you were not responsible for many of the problems players had but its nice to see that through your generosity you gave this time regardless.
yet again you have shown this to be the best game and yourselves to be the best game company any player could hope for, thank you again.

The reason no one has said thanks is because the event has not been extended.
when every event I have ever seen ends on a given day it generally ends by 18:00 uk time, the event was still live at midnight uk time.
I took this to mean they had extended the event for a couple of days.
apologies if this is in error.

Sales and weekend events end Monday mornings but featured episodes and longer events normally end with the Thursday morning server maintenance which is tomorrow.
The event ship is essentially an attendance award. For those sticking to their guns about "real life events", you didn't earn the attendance award and your own rationale doesn't matter. Enjoy your real life! It is certainly more important than a game. But you won't be enjoying a free ship.
Philisophical "they should" or "why they should" aside, just using historical data - For a seasonal event extension it happened only once that I can remember, and that was due to acknowledged fault due to technical problems that were on the Cryptic/PWE side. Im not sure theyll consider a butthurt Neverwinter player causing lag for a couple hours here and there a technical fault of their own.

Agreed. I play daily for between 4-8 hours. I have yet to see an incident that made the game unplayable for more than a few minutes, bar maintenance. During this time, I may get the map transfer crash 3 or 4 times, but I just reload. I don't consider it anything more than a minor annoyance, heck the zone trolls cause more disruption!
At the end of the day, if you really want the event ship, you'll spare 10 minutes to do it. The schedule for the event is made by Cryptic, which it has calculated the majority can easily achieve and with, as in this case, nearly TWO weeks to spare. Cryptic cannot pander to the lifestyles of everyone, if it did, we'd get nowhere with events consistently over-running because a very tiny fraction of the player-base was too busy/too lazy/hospitalized/holidaying/working or whatever potential emergency prevent them from playing.
This ship is something to show-off for being a regular player, just like all those loyalty cards you get where you get rewarded for whatever. Try using an excuse to alter the terms on those cards because of whatever reason and you'll only be laughed at....a lot!
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
You can always use lobi to make up for the short fall to get the ship.
I wind up sitting on Lobi, never spending them (literally a few year's worth of Lobi from gaining Master Keys and then getting friggin' TRIBBLES from the lockboxes or some other rot). The moment I found you could use them to get the tickets/ship, I cashed out. So I acquired my T6 science ship as a science captain maybe a day or two later than someone who is hardcore and runs it every time it's open.
If someone as casual as me can get it, anyone can get it.

Gah!! I'd hoped to be able to finish the tiresome omega collection tonight! I thought it was going to be running until the 25th! Due to Real Life it's been tricky finding time to get these missions done daily when it involves traveling the entirety of known space! The mission is slotted and only has 40 tokens to complete it! Any chance of a bonus day? Or so long as it's slotted could it by completed with next year's tokens? Like last year you could complete the 2014 Summer event task with 2015 summer tokens if it was still slotted?
Would likely have had it done by now if between logins the event wouldn't randomly have dropped from before so had to collect it again, thus losing a day several times!!!!
I was hoping lobi purchasing of boxes would have stayed around a couple weeks. I was just a couple days shy of completion and would have gladly spent some lobi to get the event ship. I guess a strict cut off of a monetized way to get items is totally profitable.
Anyway, the calendar says the 25th, and maintenance day was supposed to be on Fridays now, so uh, where's my event?

Well, technically you could have since the omega particle event does not officially end until maintenance kicks in. That would be at 10am EST today in the US I believe. Of course it could be different for you depending on your time zone.

i don't think for a moment that any of those complaining and requesting extensions are in the same position as you. they are almost certainly players who either decided to start late, or, are players who had no interest in a 'science ship' until they discovered they needed the console for their new flagship.. i guess the latter should really no better.. last minute . com is great for cheap flights but in an online game.. especially sto.. rather silly move. as for the latter, i find it very interesting that posts.. including this 1.. started appearing just after the announcement of the new ships, and not immediately after the initial few ddos occurred in the previous week.
food for thought eh?
sorry if anything i have said previously, in any way, intimated that i am not mindful or aware that there are genuine people, and genuine reasons for scheduling issues. i just don't believe that is what we are dealing with here, and it was to them, i was directing my comments.

"You snooze, you lose."

Since that's not going to happen, the choices are: spend lobi, or accept that your life outside of STO will not let you complete the event.
well like I have said before I really hope you get your extension, I would not bank on it being 7 days though if you do, maybe 1 or 2 days maybe.
you will have to wait to find out, my only advise is don't be surprised to find you don't get any.

As I said earlier, the PC I'm using now gets the map transfer bug (the PC I used before for maybe the first 5 days of the event, did not). So I did in fact finish the event while dealing with the map transfer bug for the majority of the time. And it took me, on a bad day, maybe 30min to complete - 45min if the STO restart was being particularly slow.
although personally I did not need this for the ship as I got that on the 15th day of the event I appreciate the extra time to have a chance to gain some more upgrades.
even though you have only given 2 extra days instead of the week or more some players requested this is more then I expected as you were not responsible for many of the problems players had but its nice to see that through your generosity you gave this time regardless.
yet again you have shown this to be the best game and yourselves to be the best game company any player could hope for, thank you again.

If you have to ask, it's sarcasm.
The reason no one has said thanks is because the event has not been extended.
when every event I have ever seen ends on a given day it generally ends by 18:00 uk time, the event was still live at midnight uk time.
I took this to mean they had extended the event for a couple of days.
apologies if this is in error.

generally the events are taken down by 10am PST or 6pm uk time.

This means that the 24th was an error. The calendar says the 25th.
Enjoy your real life! It is certainly more important than a game. But you won't be enjoying a free ship.
If there are posts here that do not appeal to you, or opinions you disagree with, the best way to deal with that is to resist the urge to add comments. Instead, engage with the content you like! Don't feed the trolls!
Would likely have had it done by now if between logins the event wouldn't randomly have dropped from before so had to collect it again, thus losing a day several times!!!!
