PvP in social zones

I think, for the sake to liven up the action around here, is that we should set aside a few instances of the Klingon Training academy and Starfleet Command for open PvP. You'd have two options. Beaming into an open social zone, or beaming into a protected zone.

Officers with level 4 diplomacy or Marauders get to beam into hostile social zones. They can access the opponent's doff recruitments but to do so puts them at risk of being killed and forced to respawn somewhere else and try again. Each faction is entitled to up to half the space for the instance.

Call it... allied training. Defenders get a bonus of some unrefined dil (daily cap of course) and EC (no cap). 10,000 ec per enemy toon killed.

What's the benefit for the raiders? Heh... I would raid, and even to access the enemy's doff assignments, that'd be awesome. But let's put in a daily raiding mission for the Klingons that award marauder xp, some dil and ec. For the Feds, it'd be diplomacy as well in which you're striking back to keep the peace so the Klingons know you're not a push-over.

Zone defences (the security guards) respawn regularly. Reinforcements beam into a defensive position. Attackers beam into an attack base. Both have indestructible defences to prevent spawn-camping. Step out of the respawn/beam in position, you're at the mercy of the enemy.

It'd be awesome and totally optional. You have to deliberately choose the hostile zone to beam in and the opponent has to have immunity (account wide unlock) to access your base.

Specific officers would be immune to being hit, because it's a training exercise with specific goals.

Nah. I like the randomness of the threat. No quere... just something different...

Better idea, make it a queued ground mission to defend your home base from holographic enemies.

The klingons have one of those... but we really should have a few instances that are open social zones free to be attacked. It's just evil.

That's why it's not done. It introduces a much tenser emotional dynamic that many people don't like. Most STO players don't play so that they can pretend to murder other players for fun... That's for the PvP maps.

well, it's optional, you dont need to beam into the pvp zone

Might be fun to have Mirror Universe versions of the academy maps, for PvP and PvE against the cranky locals. They wouldn't have services, but there could be some unique duty officer assignments.

Just about every single mission has our Captains blowing fleets of ships into oblivion with our weapons of mass pew pew or vaporizing some bad guy with our lazer gunz. How would blowing up another player be any different?

    i love you

does anyone ever read what I say or do they just do the title and jump on it? I mean, their concerns I've already addressed in my OP

What I have long been a proponent for is allowing duels to happen anywhere between two consenting players on the spot. That would make social zones still safe for anyone, but make for some interesting excitement for others to watch or partake in on their own volition. And if there needs to be some justification for why that could happen in secure locations like ESD etc, they can be called simulated tactical exercises or something. Most simple and fun way it could be done in my opinion.

Soooo many other MMO's do this, STO should be no exception, it would make PVP more relevant again in the easiest way possible.

Nope, I don't like it. I didn't join STO so that I could shoot down other players. And I don't PvP at all anyway. It's just a waste of time to me.

Note that I didn't say not to have PvP, just that I think it's a waste of time and wouldn't do it. And I don't want to walk around on ESD and have people spamming me for duels or whatever.

Why does nobody like an entirely optional and voluntary system? I'm all for it, I may only use it once or twice now and again when I feel like getting a reminder of what mortality feels like but I think it's a great idea.

Only if there's a way for those of us who don't want to do it at all to opt out of receiving 'requests' to duel someone.

You'd have two options. Beaming into an open social zone, or beaming into a protected zone.

As such you'd have to specifically choose to be in the pvp zone to take part. As regards requests to duel, one can be "challenged" as the game puts it at any time on any social map as it is now.

I'm just... facepalming at the lack of reading here and the outrage over a suggestion that is entirely optional...

STO is a haven for people who are scared of pvp. All people care about are space barbies, numbers and everyone winning. I never played an mmo where pvp isn't the real endgame... untill STO.

Because they have a chance to lose.

Yes, I know. And I'd like to opt out of receiving those too. Thankfully I'm not being spammed with them anymore. It was annoying.

It's shame there's not at least possibility to duel someone on spot and only places you can fight someone else is on somewhat.. err... inadequate pvp maps. It'd be nice to have and if it's purely volunteery, no reason to not have something like this. But that's just me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oh, I won't complain if it's ever put in, I just won't participate. PvP to me is completely useless. I don't come into the game to fight other players.

you can duel with someone, just not on the spot, sadly.

No it wouldn't take too long because you're just recoding some rules for specific instances. They can do that.
