They must add a ignore/block channel invites, same for fleet map/ship invites, that woud kill all the griefers in the game.
If Cryptic/PWI cared one bit for stopping griefing/trolling in STO it would:
- Set Fire Extinguishers so they can only be used in the mission instance in which they are found and nowhere else.
- Give party poppers/tribble guns/balloon guns etc a set number of charges before they are used up.
- Move Party Amplifiers to the Zen store, set them so they only last 30 seconds, and the dance action can be cancelled by just moving (like it is in another cryptic game.
- Set a radius of contact around toons so players can not stand on top of each other (like it is in another cryptic game.)
- Disable all combat abilities in social/hub zones like Risa, Drozanna, DS9, ES9, etc..
- Fix the STFs with choke points so one player can not block progression of the missions.
- Impliment a vote kick system for STF teams so players themselves can stop someone trying to intent ally fail missions.
That would take out the more casual troublemakers as, deprived out their toys, they would get bored and wander away. As for the more hardcore ones, a 10 minute search of this forum or Google would provide more than enough evidence and justification for a couple competent GMs to start swinging the banhammer on the perpetual problem children. It's not like they are shy or subtle about their antics.
But we might as well be wishing for a million dollars, world peace, and a pony at this point. Cryptic/PWI's made it very clear they will go out of their way to protect and support their trolls and griefers, even when there is evidence of a connection between one of the more notorious ones and the guy who was supposedly DDoSing the games and hurting their business.
Such is life I guess.
Aside from people failing stuff deliberately, which I don't think can even happen, since they removed the auto fails from STFs, I don't see what anything in your list has to do with either trolling or griefing.
Not liking the disco balls and wishing they weren't in the game doesn't make the disco balls 'trolling.'
I don't like bajorans and wish they weren't in the game, but when people display bajoran toons to me, they aren't 'trolling' or 'griefing' me.
A vote kick system in STFs has a great hazard to be used as a griefing mechanic.
One of the reasons STO is such a great game is that it isn't dreary and humorless. One of the reasons it isn't dreary and humorless is because it has all the cool stuff like party balls and a new cool party horn every year!
I fully support all of those systems and devices as long as people can choose to not be affected by them. The people that want to party should be able to, but they shouldn't be able to force anything on anyone that doesn't want to.
For the 'vote kick'. No, just no. I've played too many games that has this and it's a loved implement of griefers and trolls, either that or it's nerfed into uselesness. It is a "cure" that's worse than the original illness.
Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end of it.
my main problem is not the afk players, but the those sexist ba..ards. I'm a guy who play with female characters, and often these characters are annoyed by these bunch of scumabag who have incorrect attitudes.
examples:
- in chat (pm), i can't write the sentences
-I was at ds9 in front of a bank console, and a guy who were on the console, put his toon (the place where are supposed to be the balls of this toon) in front of the face of my toon. Then I left the console and this fu..... as.... followed my character everywhere. I had to beam out.
etc etc x100
sadly I can't have in rl these guys in front of me, they wouldn't have the same incorrect attitudes.

... I fail to see your problem. It's not real life
a) remove the name from your postings @bindingchains . You are provoking disciplinary action against you, and doing so willingly just so you can rage some more and maybe ultimately get banned is foolish.
b) File a support ticket. I don't mean clicking "report spam" but open a customer service ticket and report what happened, "report spam" doesn't report anything, it just puts the user on ignore. I think the button is mislabeled.
c) If customer support doesn't reply to you and you are harassed by this person ping the community manager (I'm not doing this so you have time to remove the @ handle in your postings). She may be able to help you out or push the general matter to attention.
All of this is correct except c). The community manager isn't great for that. She just sits there with Photoshop and makes gifs of Illuminati giraffes. I don't trust her.
Point of order on STF fails: while there are not many Elite queues, for those that we do have, such as Undine Infiltration Elite, the possibility of intentional fails remains. Advanced and below are not subject to this.

I've had some odd stuff done to my toon. I've done some odd stuff to others.
You have a choice. You could be bothered by it and allow yourself to be trolled... or you could just shake your head at the immaturity of the other person who does it to get a rise out of you. You're not being assaulted, you're not being harassed, you're not being denied things. That's the difference between it and real life. In real life, someone doing that to you, feel free to slam them on the side of their head because in real life, you don't have a choice.
I like the idea of a vote kick option as it gives the party the ability to remove an deal with problem characters, but in the same accord it is usable to grief players as well, but to me it is worth it in many ways.
Now though i would love an option of a true personal black-list feature that allows you to place not merely the character, but the associated account of the character onto a no grouping status disallowing them to be matched with you into groups or send you any kind of invites or tells. Though right now with the ignore feature i do not think it blocks them from joining groups with you in stfs, but might be mistaken as even in other games that use a ignore feature it is not uniform in if it blocks such things like grouping via a lfg system or not.
A vote-to-kick feature can work if it's initiated only by a system requirement of sorts. Having it player initiated will be abused, so let the system offer it! However, saying that, there are plenty of MMO games that auto-kick for you. The main thing that needs to be achieved is denial of reward for the offender, who is monitored from then on if they are a repeat offender. As another poster also wrote about, persistant offenders in another game I play get sent to an isolated server with no player interaction. They can still do missions, but that's it.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
Deliberately failing STFs is 'griefing,' it wastes people's time, people lose out because of it.
It's pretty much the only mechanic in the game that can be used to grief someone, as far as I know.
And, it's almost completely a non-issue, since who pugs elite stfs that can be failed that way anyhow?
"I dont like pink clothes" or "i dont like the party popper" or "i dont like to see women toons" or "i dont like the party ball" isnt even connected to griefing, its just a 'stop liking things i don't like' situation.
I guess calling it 'griefing' is better than calling it 'cyberbullying' like some do. Cyberbullying is a serious thing that has real world harmful effects on people.
Either way, its dishonest hyperbole.
Very good points, more like being annoying which is more like trolling than griefing. Some people just seemed to be annoyed rather easily in this game. If you let it bother you and make it known that it bothers you, the person who is doing it is most likely going to do it even more. GMs shouldn't have to waste their time dealing with minor things like this, things like cyberbullying or harassment of other players are the types of things that need to be addressed.
Only time I was grieved in game was on WoW. However on this game I really hadn't been. Other than the minor issue with the Disco ball, but I just went to a different area. Rest is the chat which is pure rubbish. So I just turn that off. As I don't even want to read that garbage that others put there.
But I know it can happen, as I been under it before. And saw others in the act to other players.

Did I mention that when something is destroyed Its gone for good?
That is the most idiotic bit of game design I've ever heard. I would never buy something in-game that can be taken away, especially by other players.
It's even worse. The game is "online" 24/7/365 even if you aren't. Your ship can be destroyed when you are logged out-at least that is how it worked in the past.
'i don't like disco ball so you must stop liking it or ur trole'
No reasonable person thinks that just because they do NOT like something, that no one else should be able to like it either. Likewise, no reasonable person tries to force something they DO like onto someone else that does not like it. Anyone who tries to do either of those things is equally asinine, and equally a troll.

I didn't see any personally identifiable information in that link that repetitiveepic is complaining about. He may not like it being posted, but it doesn't meet the definition of doxing.
Anyway, what about my proposal to fix the cover shield? I think it would both be a helpful anti-griefing measure for ground STF's, AND avoid a lot of hassle in story missions if a BOFF pops one in the wrong place or even if a player pops one when a BOFF i standing too closely. (Heck, BOFFs can get stuck in the stupid thing just trying to run, even if they aren't right there the second the shield spawns.)

I'm not overly keen on a vote kick thing. As I have been kicked from task forces on SWTOR, because I got an item from a drop that someone else wanted. Even after getting the team to the very end, I got vote kicked before the boss. It shows that more people will just abuse the mechanic, because they can. We have a ignore list thankfully, and just adding the griefers to it, prevents you teaming with them or talking to them in future. They'll grief enough people that they'll never be able to queue.
Wait, what? You mean Dental's own internal documents actually endorse trolling and griefing? I thought that was just an urban legend made up by haters.

I think the concepts of irony and nuance might have been lost upon you when this thread was created.
I am pretty dumb and I even knew that whole thread was created as a joke.
