Can't Change One Color Without Changing Them All

dimitrikdimitrik Member Posts: 10 Arc User
This is a weird bug that I've found, and I'm baffled that no one else has reported it. I have a hard time believing I'm the only one getting hit by it. And if this isn't a bug, man alive have they ever buried the functionality to correct this issue somewhere obscure.

So here's the deal.

I have a distinct look in mind. It includes gloves. I have the gloves colored. Later down the road, I wanted to add a belt. I go to color the belt, and surprise! It changes the color of the gloves! I go to fix the gloves, and bam! It changes the belt! One can't be colored without the other being changed to match.

This has to be a bug. It just has to. There's no way this is working as intended. I ran into the same problem on my KDF alt, but I managed to find a weird compromise workaround. I can't even remember what wonky steps I had to take to correct it. But has anyone else been dealing with this? What's the deal?

Linked colors on head and outfit items has been a long standing issue that has received at least 1 fix a long time ago.

Could you post which species, faction, and exactly what belt and gloves, you are having an issue with?

As for me I still have hair and eyebrow colors linked on occasion.

The workaround that always fixes it for me: click the 'Randomize' button a couple times. Then redo that part of your character. A real pain in the TRIBBLE when you can't remember how you had a slider set, what face you were using, or what exact colors you wanted. You may need to click the randomize button for both the upper and lower body to get the items unlinked.

Just remembered something: when the color for hair and eyebrows are linked, it seems to happen after loading a full saved appearance on the character, not just the outfit. It doesn't happen all the time, but this seems to be the only time it does happen.

OP, did you happen to load a saved outfit on your character before colors of your gloves and belt became linked?

This bug has been around since time immemorial, at least as far as the game goes :3

I would report it but it's an ongoing thing that I know they're all to aware off, they'll fix some links one time then at some point more get linked for no real reason.

As a recommendation, for costume related bugs there's a really good thread that is frequented by one of the devs that's fantastic for reporting this sort of thing. I kinda wish it was in the Gameplay Bug Reports section but regardless its worth looking at: http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1125806/havelocks-tailor-and-costume-issues#latest

Might make that thread part of my sig actually.....

Alrighty, I have a bit to respond to here.

1.) The components in question is the "Gloves Paneled" and the "Odyssey" belt.
2.) The character effected was a bridge officer human female.
    3.) Starfleet for the faction.
4.) No, I wasn't loading anything before trying to fix it up and encountering this glitch. Go figure.

I had to write down everything I had before and all of their color codes, but hitting the randomizer button for the lower bodywear unlinked the belt from the gloves. What a weird bug and a hassle, but thanks for the operational workaround.

Also, I'm not British enough to add a U. ^_~

Please, I'm not British. Everyone else who uses English uses the U.

England, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India? South Africa?

and isn't there a box for 'recently used colours'?

Little row above the rest of the palette yes.

When you're going for a uniform look, that little row of potentially very-similar-but-not-the-same colors doesn't help.

Edited for snark: Not deviating off-topic to debate.

well, that little row of boxes on the top should show recent colours. That's how I got around it

also, work bottom up, rather than top down, seems to do the trick

It also happens with romulan uniforms. I generally "solve" the issue hand picking the various part of the outfit avoiding the "complete uniform" window. I really hope they will sole the issue, it has been around since LoR.
