Does this honestly surprise you? I mean they do this with everything...
Cannons suck - check
Torpedoes suck - check
Mines suck - double check
Fighters suck - check
Carriers suck - check
Science sucks - check
Escorts suck - well if you know how to fly them well or have all the fancy traits and stuff not...
This game is basically centered around flying Beam Cruisers these days...if one is really paranoid you could even say the Tachyon Beam buff the Borg and the Iconian ramming speed stuff were designed to make lighter ships like Escorts and Sci's harder to fly...I know I'm having a hell of a time with it after switching over from my Sarr Theln to a Pilot Escort.
I lose my shields in seconds and I have to remain vulnerable until the beam is done because any shield heal will just drain too...plus in my last GtG Advanced several times in a row I was crit hit by the Baltim Raiders for more than my entire hull strength.
None of these things "suck" - maybe RyanSTO gets 10k less dps out of them, but all of that is baseless whining. You people need to stop judging every single game content by how much dps RyanSTO gets out of it.
Cannons, Torpedoes even mines can be used effectively to beat elite content. It just doesn't work in the comfortable ways that have been paved, fortified and lit at this point. Carriers and their hangar pets have a true issue which is very limited control over what they do - separation pets even offer no controls whatsoever. It is truly baffling how much Cryptic avoids working on these problems - but they don't outright "suck", two hangars of swarmers deal a significant amount of damage. They die a lot, true, but as a dedicated carrier player you know how to reduce launch cooldown to ten seconds or so, plus frigate pets hold their own okay. And that even makes sense - fighters are shuttles. They shouldn't even HAVE a combat role in the first place, them falling apart when cruisers cough is in my opinion completely fine. "Frigates" are full fledged starships on their own, it's expected they hold a bit longer.
Back in the days games had variety and you had to play differently to use all of it to it's maximum potential. STO and Cryptic left this path, that is true. They know there is a meta and they cater to that meta, but the other gamestyles still work, it's just not as comfy or "impressive" but who the TRIBBLE cares about that. Take something you think is cool and make it work and don't cry it isn't compatible with the facerolling standard gamestyle.

And that is why I used Advanced Slavers. Beam Arrays. Also... the sight of 12 little bugs firing beam arrays off at a single target never gets old.
Yeah...I try to use pets with beams only...even if they aren't the best DPS. Wish the Peregrines had beams...since in the show they did....but ehh the runabouts do fine and have the occasional tractor beam thrown in....plus better survival than fighters.

I'm not judging anything on any min/maxers dps...I'm judging on the truth...
Cannons suck because CSV just isn't anywhere near as good as FaW...Cannons are less power efficient and have terrible range penalties compared to beams...and better traits as well.
Torpedoes...well they suck for so many obvious reasons including most big things dying before you even get their shields down.
Mines...well if you don't know why minds sucks I question you.
Fighters suck because they've been nerfed to hell and their AI is almost non existent.
Carriers suck...because above...they also have the penalty of losing weapon(s) because of said pets
Science sucks...well it's always kinda sucked since Tac players got it nerfed all those years ago
Escorts...well that's questionable...but they do have one less weapon and the fragile hull that just leaves Cruisers superior when you either have your shields drained fully in seconds or you have Raiders circling you like flys and can Crit you with a ramming speed for almost or all of your hull as a Sci or Escort.
So tell me...you're completely happy with the fact that people are penalized just because they want to play something different? You think it's fair or good?
Don't give me this 10k DPS junk...haven't heard of a Sci doing 100k+ dps except when the Krenim console was bugged.
When everything is inferior to the easiest to use skill and weapon in game something is bloody wrong, as much as you'd love to stick your fingers in your ears and scream "lalalala" and ignore what other people say or you prefer doing easy dps...the fact of the matter is it's wrong.

It is how you measure things. And you want everything to be "as easy" as the current FAW meta, so you aren't even trying to play something different I figure. I'm not saying the game isn't skewed and I'm not saying everything is on equal strength. But you can still make it work, if you wanted to. But you just want everything to be as facerolling easy as the current flavor. For instance, ever had the statisfaction of using an escort, gunning down an enemies' shields, dropping a tricobalt mine with dispersal pattern in front of it and using evasive manoeuvres to skim of, watching the target go down in a 150k (x3) crit? It works and it's fun. It just doesn't allow you to faceroll content in two minutes, but you want it to do otherwise it "sucks". It's that inflexiblity why we don't have versatility in this game. This is the reason we have huge whinefests once *anything* changes and the old stuff doesn't work anymore.

No...it sucks because it sucks...it's sub par...it isn't near equal...tell me where the logic in the easiest weapon to use in the game with the easiest to use and strongest weapon buff in the game is?
Where it is best at everything...at damage, at range, and at power...where torpedoes have a use...why do you think DPS avoids them like the plague? Because they aren't as pretty of a affect as another beam on a fully loaded beam ship?
Either you're blind or you simply just want Beams and FaW to remain on top...it isn't just a few k dps gap we're talking about as much as you'd like to claim...If cannons and and torps and everything were nearly as close as you *claim* then why is just about every single thing in dps about beams? You can call it *whining* or whatever you want...either you're blind or you're trying to protect FaW...either way they're no where near as close as you claim.

See, I'm not claiming they are equal or very close. In fact, I said the complete opposite. But you can still make your style work, have fun and exchange ideas on the forum. For example right now I am completely reconfiguring a Negh'Var to buff boarding party and see where it takes me. I played a raider doing ridiculous crit damage with tricobalt mines and cluster torps. No, you don't set a dps record with it, but the content is beatable and it's fun trying something different. And if you really don't care about the dps min/maxers your only argument wouldn't be "the dpsers don't use it (so I know it has to suck)".
The game is heavily skewed towards one style of game, but it isn't the only one. And no, that situation is not acceptable, but it doesn't force you to follow that style of play. And making stuff work with what you are given is a challenge. Because going for a mine-layer is a completely different style of gameplay from a BFAW cruiser. Even if they would do equal damage it's a completely different way of playing the game. Ideally one should have it easier where the other has it harder, currently BFAW with buffs is the easiest way to play the game because it's the best in every situation. That is true. But the cannon builds that once rules the game are still up there, maybe capable of only 50k dps but who cares, the still work - if you are not after those numbers a third-party-program not even officially supported shows.

This also, but you can't say that because then we get to hear that one scene in DS9 (that didn't even have carriers, just shuttles in combat) trumps five shows and ten movies of canon

It forces me if I want to do good dps...I don't do it because I'm not huge on dps...but I like to try and compete...I'm no slouch...I don't need to do 100k dps but one day I'd like to be able to do some elites and not need to be 100% carried.
Right now I'm playing a Pilot Escort...using Cannons and Torps...it makes me sad when I can see people playing a much easier spec and just outclass me in damage.
Beams clearly are clearly dominating...plain and simple. It gets harder and harder each day to play a spec which is more complicated in every way and less rewarding vs the easiest to play is the most rewarding...you can call it whining but it's the undisputed truth.
Tell me this...how are we ever going to get a snow balls chance in hell of ever getting things balanced if we don't make it clear to the devs it isn't balanced...do you think they would of touched the Plasma explosion only crits with FaW if there wasn't videos...threads making it clear it was only working with FaW?
Fine call me a whiner...whining has a better chance of getting something done instead of just bending over and taking it in silence.

Those are viable in elite. Torps are even optimal at certain elites, better even the beams. Just like any build, just got to know how to build one and fly one. Which has been the case, knowledge and skill.

Dominating a map optimal for beams. It is not simple. It becomes simple if you believe in rumors including previous whiners in the forums.
We can actually check for facts for what is the current No 1 DPS at SCM table per map ( post embassy/neutronic nerf)
ISA- Hybrid torp+beams
CCA- Torp boat
HSE - Torp boat
Lets check the other table, CLR:
ISA pre embassy nerf - Full beams (Ryans 233k parse)
ISA post embassy nerf - Hybrid torp+beams (Felisean's 226k parse)
HSE - Torp boat (post neutronic nerf)

Sorry no, its not simple as clearly dominating.
Oh wow...1 instance where the only thing you really target has no shields and Torps are better against it...that is like so cool...except no one judges DPS on CC...no one.
I've seen the 233k parse but can't seem to find anything on this hybrid build...plus it's still beams...not cannons...not a full torpedo build...or a sci build.
I've been looking and so far the best I can find from Felisean is a 180k pure beam boat...plus every build I've found by him is pure beamage...

Because they have never been canon and should't have been in the game at all.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

There are 2 different DPS channels. one has CLR table the other SCM table.
226K parse is just below 233K Ryans parse while 180k parse would take more effort of looking since different tab, This would be the CLR table.
SCM table ISA 1 is a hybrid build if you actually looked at it.
Full Cannons are viable. It is possible to reach 75k+ dps random runs,100k+ nanied.
I just dont understand the obsession that your preferred weapons platform/build must top all charts in all maps. All weapons are viable.

I searched all over...googled too...only thing comes up is his 180k build...every build on the skill planner is pure beams...nothing on youtube I can find.
Everyone bases their DPS on ISE...sorry I'm not looking for basis on something than the other most commonly used base. So far only HSE I can find is the first HSE completed.
So once again I see all of these claims but not one single shred of evidence to back any of them up. If you want me to actually believe you...show me.
So wow...I should feel privileged that I can do half the dps of a easier less complicated build?!? Yipee!

Yipee!
