...and that's the scary part....is that your PvP is so bad and unbalanced, everyone actually agreed. I have played MMO's since 2000 and not once have I EVER seen everyone agree on the PvP being unbalanced issue. Not one...single...time.
So what's that tell us about your game? I'll tell you what it tells me, it tells me that ever since PW bought this game, the PvP has taken a gross turn for the ugly.
To anyone not sure what I am referring to, check out this thread.

You can lock this thread too if you like, but the damage is already done. PW now holds the world record of having the only "The PvP in this game is Unbalanced" thread in existence that everyone who posted agreed.
I'm not sure whether to say congratulations or tell you I'm sorry. I'm sure that's embarrassing nonetheless.

As if the whole balance thing wasn't out of wack, the players attracted are all so focused on their Epeen, that even IF there was balance, it still would not be fun, because of all the stroking.
Edit:
Looking at the original thread, I see people engaged in civil discourse. [shrug]

I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.
I wouldn't hold your breath...you would turn 10 shades of blue, lol.
I wish I could agree with you...I mean that with complete sincerity. However, when I look back at a great portion of changes that were made to this game, I remember those changes being made because of PvP. So the past experience and reasons for those changes dictates otherwise.

That's not true. When the game launched, KDF was a PvP faction. PvE for KDF was a joke.
What are you talking about? PvP has been in game since day one. It didnt get any traction or serious attention from the Developers because just like the rest of the game at launch. PvP was in a pre beta state with a handful of maps and modes. Not because the game 'isnt about PvP'. How many MMOs have you been involved with to make such an asinine statement like that? PvP remains the way it is today because very little in the way of Players adapted to it because of the steep learning curve, again because of the games over all pre beta state, meaning very few people stuck around for it. Most, like myself, actually left it because of how atrocious it was. The KDF had very little in the way of PvE and was billed as the PvP faction. So that alone throws your argument out the window.
In regards to the OP. I dont know why anyone cares about PvP in this game anymore. Its almost 6 years now with the last update to PvP being some ground maps within the first year of the game. Its dead, and unless you can provide a lucrative means of drawing the Devs to actually doing anything with it, like the power creep fire sale they currently have going with PvE, I seriously doubt they will ever get around to touching it. And it surely wont ever kickstart that portion of the community again. What was once a nice opportunity to actually have a place to point at and say yes the 'Klingon and Fed War exists' is a ghost town.
Did you even read what I said?
Cryptic could add a UI feature that allows players to enter a PVP battle with all Specialization trees turned off. Then as players build themselves up over time they could enter the matches that match thier skill level. There could be pvp matches they specialize in each of the 4 spec trees or a all for nothing match were all spec trees can be active.
All in All, Thats why I think PVP died. It has everything to do with the Specialization trees. People feel that every PVP match is a disadvantage until they get maxed out in All spec trees. Then the other player feels the way they did in the begining. A never ending cycle of.......DOOM. LOL, sorry had to.
One season of dedicated to PvP revamp would make a world of difference. But off course no PvEr will fight for it because then they'd have to rely on something other than DPS.
Even if we could only use tier 1 to 3 ships and no rep gear PvErs would still loose against an ordinary PvPer because they're not used to proper space/ground combat.
I'm not saying that PvP requires skill at the moment. It doesn't. The meta now is fail builds with FAW, Kemo, neut spread and a bunch of other rubbish.
But even with the afore mentioned restrictions, don't think PvP will become easy all of a sudden for PvErs.
There's still going to be a learning curve and it'll be steeper than you think! But it'd be way more fun than PvE will ever be and you'll find yourselves becoming better players and PvErs because of it.
But if you're not willing to put in the work and be humble about it when it comes to asking for help, don't expect to get good.
Higher player HP would negate much of the power creep, lessen the possibility of vaping another player and give more chances to counter each other. The PVE side won't change since NPCs will be hitting proportionally higher.
After that, immunities can be changed to damage resists or defense boosts.
My experience in PVP in this game is rather limited to friendly matches with friends and fleet mates so pardon me if my proposal above won't work for more experienced PVP'ers.

I remember long time ago doing some ground pvp on STO but that died out ...
Like I said, there used to be more but Cryptic's neglect of PVP since the game launched bled people away from it and the continued Power Creep made it worse and worse as time went on. I stopped at Season 8 because already back then, I felt the Power Creep was too much.
You're categorically wrong. It's not like saying that at all. This game has featured PvP for a long time. The inception of the Klingon faction in its entirety was even originally designed around PvP as a basis. In fact, while I don't think its accurate to say PvP has ever been amazing in STO, the PvP community was thriving for quite some time back in the day, despite developer disregard. Unfortunately, PvP has gone neglected and disregarded for far too long by the developers, where both content and balance are concerned, so it has understandably lost much of its previous popularity.
It's not as if PvP was never implemented, designed, and integrated as a feature of the game. All of this did happen, and then the developers dropped the proverbial ball.
Like the state of neglected PvP, your analog is also a joke.
As for what this game is "about," it's about Star Trek.
I am not a a dedicated or hardcore PvP player. But I do enjoy it. Even though I am not very good at it nor do I make it a regular part of my STO game time. It makes for a rewarding and informative change from the zombie AI with a gazillion HP NPCs. There are people who do play PvP to the exclusion of everything else. Some of them are Star Trek fans as well. To treat them the way they have been treated by Cryptic is beneath contempt. And a bad business practice as well. What company ignores a source of income and thrives?
Someone at Perfect World who is high enough in the food chain to make decisions without needing a note from their mommy really should grab Cryptic up by the neck and shake them around a bit over this. Maybe threaten a few jobs, renege on a few bonuses, or demote someone from Lead Designer to Coffee Fetcher Third Class(Probationary).
Salami_inferno arrived with a big splash and offered all kinds of words about how things would be different now. I, for one, am still waiting and watching for the difference. The only one I've spotted so far is Geko's boy has a different name than before.
Yeah obviously this is closed. Let's not break rules folks.
