a few NPC ships i'd like to see as playable

in running through the mission Alliances with one of my secondary alts, i took a good hard look at some of the npc ships there, and i REALLY like the look of a few of em, and would really like to see them as playable.

specifically, when you first enter the system, there's a Kobali Battleship and a Benthan battleship among the others meeting with voyager--a lot could be done with these.

and in the first mission, there's the Turei Frigates and Cruisers---same story, i like the looks of em, figure with a little beta quad rep stuff and fleet equipment, they could do players a lot more good than they're doing the turei....

oh, and of course, if we get back over to the alpha quad, that cardassian keldon sci ship....

Turei frigates are avaiable as Voth Palisade Science Vessels. Same model, only different texture.

Personally i'd like to see the 2 unreleased Orion ships. Slave Master Battleship and Orion Warbarge

Turei Lockbox.... there's an idea. But yeah I'd like to see playable Turei ships too, an interesting idea.

I quite like the Turei ship. Even though its just a re-skin of the Voth Palisade (just as it was on the show).
When I got my Palisade, I was actually somewhat hoping for a Turei material when DR launched.

Suffice to say, that was not the case. But its still a cool ship (both of them).

What I want is the entire lineup of non-KDF ships that aren't playable yet. Cryptic complains no one buys KDF ships. Guess what? There barely are any, especially at T5 and above. These ships exist as finished models already, so why not convert them into playable ships? I'm sure there are Gorn captains out there that would appreciate being able to fly something that isn't a science vessel for once.

If we're naming ships that should be playable, then I'd like to elaborate a little and list two (or rather, three) ships that should be in the game somewhere (be them playable, or NPC), and that's the three Son'a ones; there's the Battleship, Command Cruiser, and that large Science Ship (which could be made to play as a Science-themed Carrier if Cryptic got on it).

If you ask me, the Son'a are perfect contenders for a Lock Box. The Command Cruiser in the Lobi Store, the Battleship in a Lock Box, and that Science Ship in some promotional package.

Other than that, as already stated, there's the Cardassian Keldon (will likely be used for the ongoing rumour that is a Cardassian faction) and the Jem Hadar Battleship.

Deferi Transports, for the player who only wants one turret. Oh the angst you would generate by showing up in an Elite STF with one of these!

On another note, among player controlled ships the Scimitar really has no peer in the game, from a perspective of scale. However, the Jupiter NPC ship is its match. I propose two variants of the Jupiter: the Engineering Combat Repair Ship and the Science/Tactical Dedicated Carrier.

The Engineering Combat Repair Ship would have massive energy reserves to use in healing or fortifying ships on his team, with a full compliment of beam arrays which operate at full power no matter how much strain the player puts on his power systems. Hangars of Worker Bee Repair Shuttles could be assigned to escort ships in combat, constantly reinforcing their armor and shields, and the Jupiter itself could have a special ability or console which allows it to periodically perform major hull and shield heals on allies.

The Tac/Sci Jupiter could split the difference between these specialties, with some Sci abilities like Subsystem
Targeting capable of being assigned to pets. You can thus launch a group of fighters and assign them to make subsystem attacks, or a specific subsystem attack, which inflict less damage, but proc the subsystem offline effect. You could also use Tac powers to overload your fighter's weapons or even FAW. Although fat, slow, and hard to turn, such a vessel would be able to withstand almost anything with its massive hull and surplus power reserves.

Then again, this idea may have to wait for T7 content to unlock...

This is one reason why I liked the Command Cruisers. And hope to add it soon. Its not the Typhoon, but it works for me. And it really looks like they phased them out since you rarely see the Typhoon anymore. Even calling for Fleet Support you get one of the Commands. Once I get the ship, I will be tempted to create a new captain just for her. To make a "theme ship/crew". As their only ship.

Arrgh! I like the CC's, they just aren't he Typhoon. I've tried, no matter how I bash 'em I can't see the lovely blocky lines of the Typhoon. They just don't scream 'Battleship' to me, they look like Sovereigns warships, sure, but not battleships.

You realise that the Typhoon had blocky lines because it was a low poly kitbash with parts inflated to rididuclous proportions?
It's like asking for a Yaeger. These ships were never meant for up close scrutiny, and can never be fixed, the command cruisers are the replacement. Accept it and move on.

I am asking for a Yeager as well though. Or do you somehow think the Typhoon is worse in quality than the other start of game models (Assault Cruisers parts, Olympic, Luna, Star Cruisers etc.)? Should they be removed?

Yes, I think it is. NPC only ship models were always a bit simpler and basic than playable ones.

I think with some tweaks, the typhoon model would be perfectly usable. As it is though, it is certainly no worse than the models that have been in game since day 1, even the ones that have already been removed, like the vesper (a connie variant). In fact, a whole bunch of them have been quietly removed. Most of the boats we can get via levelling have lost a skin option or two in the last year or so.

Yes, I think it is. NPC only ship models were always a bit simpler and basic than playable ones.

But it's not. It's made of playable ship parts, all the bits. Zoom in on the Typhoon's saucer and then look at the Noble's. Sure, it's missing the spine with the bridge on, but other than that it's identical. The nacelles are no less or more detailed than the Phoenix's from whence they came. Same goes fro the hull (what ever that's from).
