It makes no difference in relation to the event. The only difference would be that each run would give more in the way of standard mark rewards as they already do. Generally, for the event, most people run the normal just because it's quicker.

BONUS! Once the new, main reputation project is complete, a brand-new bonus 1-Shard project will become available to slot. Completing this will earn players 2,000 Dilithium Ore, 50 Fleet Marks and 35 Marks of their choice (Fleet, Omega, Romulan, Nukara, Dyson, Undine, Delta or Iconian Marks).
So we can use last years shards this time... Wait, if we gather extra shards this year, can we just save them for next year instead of slotting them for dil rewards?

I can't understand why Cryptic has suddenly decided to lock out promotional content. First it was the Risian ships during the last summer event and now this missed opportunity. Hopefully this trend will be discarded by the next winter event.

Will it be like season events, account unlocked after 1 toon completes the main?or a grind 'tillthe death with all my toons?

my guess is no, none of the previous items have become account unlocks.
having said that, surely the "50,000 Dilithium Ore, 500 Fleet Marks, 250 Marks" makes it worth doing this with as many characters as possible and is a more worthwhile prize then the kit module and they defiantly wont be account unlock even if the kit module is.
I for one will be doing it on my 6 characters, a total of 300k dilithium is just too good to miss out on.

Question: I have the incomplete event still in my reputation tab from the last Crystalline Cataclysm event. Can I still add shards to that and get the rewards (marks, torpedo launcher, dil) or do I have to start this year's from scratch?
I also have left over shards from last event. hope they appy to this event. If not, oh well....
I have completed multiple event projects with shards in the past so you should be ok, they only changed the token for the summer, winter, ect. event as they are account unlocks and many players were hording tokens with multiple characters.
I don't think they will be doing this for these events as the prize is not usually an account unlock so no point in hording tokens, it would only mean you would miss out on one prize for the sake of another similar prize if you did.

they have never offered the choice between present or previous rewards for CE or mirror events so they are not locking out promotional content in this event as it has never been made available to be locked out in the first place.

Of course these stats where taken from a screenshot while in space. They are too stupid to understand their own game mechanics. Smirk used to be a TRIBBLE and read ground item stats in space to people in his podcast. So no this module won't be releasing 11k damage on ground. Although frankly it would not surprise me if this actually was the case though. They could care less about how what they release affects ground pvp.
I could see this drawing aggro of a ton of pets (security escorts) might be useful in ground pvp to an extent. It would be an interesting pun to see a bunch of redshirts chasing crystal LOL.
Um...shouldn't it be time for a MIRROR event, not a CE event? We just had a CE event a few months back, but it's been since November when the last Mirror event ended...and I've still got shotguns queued.
Of course, it would be even nicer to just make CE/Mirror payouts the same currency. The unlocks aren't account wide, so people might actually appreciate not having to grind everything on every toon. Common currency would allow people to pick/choose what they unlock on individual toons. And because it's character-bound event rewards, common currency doesn't really allow for hoarding either; those who store/save can only get the same total payouts as those who grind it all in 1 event.

Yet another Kit Module ? should be great ... but ... we only have up to MK XIII kits with only 5 slots .... and you keep shovelling kit modules on top of us and we can only slot 5 of them ... it's very impracticable to change kit / modules middle battle ...
kits should have an extra kit module SLOT all over the levels and be upgradable to MK XIV for an extra kit slot.
2 extra kit slots would still be a bit short ... but a welcome addiction on this avalanche of kit modules pouring down on us ... don't get me wrong, they are very cool, we just don't have enough slots in the kits, for this to be practical.
Looks like the module screenshot was taken in space. It deals about ~200 kinetic damage in ground. And as suspected, its damage seems to be increased by buffs like Ambush.
Did this last night and completed the que... got the research box but no shard. This was on my L60 Orion... think this is the only toon that did not get a shard. Not in her personal inventory... she does have some in the bank thou. I dont recall putting it in the bank (she had some saved up from last time). All other toons who did this also got the research box and a shard in their personal inventory (they too have additional shards in the bank). /shrug
I would love to get a space set that would turn my ship into a mini-crystalline entity - shooting matter-conversion beams, releasing large shards, getting recrystalization buff from small shards, absorbing energy and releasing shockwaves... Bonus points should the set have visuals similar to the borg set - adding crystalline growth on the ship and stuff... Sigh... One can dream, right?
The Special Event Award looks promising. I suck at Ground Combat, so anything which damages/kills large numbers of mobs all at once is something I am looking forward to. To me the real benefit is the ability to farm Marks for all four of my chars without worrying about queues stalling out.

Mirror Event is a lot of fun, but it needs some work done on it. Namely, the ability to finish it quickly. I can't be bothered to do it more than a few times a day since it takes so long, and I have many characters I'd like to have participate.
2nd day the event is live and I'm not getting a shard for multiple characters, and it's not on cooldown
There is an issue with the shards every time this event comes up. For some players the shards go into their overflow bag for some reason, even though their inventory has plenty of space. Open your inventory and look to see if there is an 'Overflow Bag' button at the bottom. If you click the button and nothing happens you'll need to completely exit the game, relaunch it, then log back into that character first (this issue has been around for a long time and exiting the game seems to be the only workaround).

Every time we have one of these events I ask about this. I'm up to 18 toons now, it's really hard to keep track of when each of them is off cooldown.
