I am completely flabbergasted at some comments saying that this will be fun and interesting with out being more skeptical about it. What do we know about Doffing? We click to start the mission, wait for a timer, then click complete when its done. What is fun about that? I hate the doff system and only one of my characters has ever bothered to get to tier 4. I'm not necessarily writing off this new system early because there is more to know, but I am writing it off if its the same old Doffing.

Doffing has to be the best and easiest way to obtain XP, Dil, Ec etc etc etc sooooo yeh its boring in a way BUT! sooooooooooooooooooooo WORTH IT!!

If I was a newer player, I might be more excited .
See, my first thought was the exact opposite of this. This is, in my opinion, a big negative for new players.
A lot of us, myself included, have played this game for a number of years. Over the years, we have obtained many ships either through give away events, grinding out dilithium, or just flat out cold hard cash. The time and effort has been stretched over the course of years.
Now imagine you're brand new and you finally hit 60 and want to start getting up there with the 'big boys.' If you want to be able to complete these new missions, you would pretty much have to run out and buy a ton of ships just to get anywhere near equal ground to where the 'vets' are.
Overall, I voted Yes, because I like the DoFF'ing idea for ships. As a core concept, I like the idea.. but I have some concerns about it's implementation. I'm just going to say this right now.. I'm not going to buy more ship slots just so I can have more 'Spaceship DoFFs,' that flat out isn't going to happen.
I will pass. I quite doing Doff stuff after the Great Doff Nerf. Where it was no longer worth doing. And didn't help out getting exp to help level anymore. Where before I was getting good exp.

I don't like the idea of it. Ship slots are very limited. Ships themselves are even more limited from most players viewpoints I imagine, and in general are very overpriced.
In imagining what Doffing with ships is like, I know that Cryptic/PWE will want to monetize it. This makes me think it is going to end up whale bait rather than something most players can enjoy.
It would be even worse if the ships need to have a decent loadout.
Of course that is very premature conjecture, but since this is just about my initial thoughts, I don't like the idea. I would like to be proven wrong.
I think I am going to reserve judgement until we have details.
Been thrilled a few times, and always end up disappointed, so I am going to wait this one out.
What this and others said. We have no idea what this could be. For all we know doffing might get a revamp along with this.
Sure, it could. But the quote from ST.com says the current duty officer system, not a new and revamped duty officer system.
It also says it similar, not "doffing with ships". Grapefruit and oranges are similar but I would rather eat an orange. The best thing to do right now is wait for more data.
only if they make it truly brutal... send out ship with epic gear and doff crew... ship fails and gets destroyed... lose all ship gear and doffs and ship can NO longer be reclaimed (if C-Store ship, will need to buy again to unlock).

The OP clearly explains the situation. I never claimed they were exactly the same, or the same system. The title of the thread is simply to give the general idea of what it is about, and using the doff comparison made in the article cited.
The best thing to do right now is wait for more data.
There is no "best thing to do". We're not talking about going to war in RL, we're talking about a video game. If someone wants to speculate, that's fine. If someone else doesn't, that's also fine. Neither way is "best", or really matters in the long run.
Given the past year, I expect this to be uninteresting and poorly done- but offering too much power-creep to ignore completely. The goal for Cryptic seems simple- sell more ships.
I will not buy ships for this. Nor do I want to slam my ship slots fun of junk ships used only for this new mini-game. I hope they allow us to filter what ships appear for either active use or this new Doff system. Doing a swap ship and sorting through the result to find my Cell Ship for example isn't fun now and it certainly won't be fun if I add in all my previous purchases and event ships (which I have discharged to clean things up)- I'd like to limit what appears there.

Reserving Judgement. No point in speculating what it will be now as we JUST heard about it and there are no details. Just one sentence in a teaser blog.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

I'm sort of on the meh side, but it's better than nothing, a little let down from the former ideas of an away team in space essentially, that I would have found really cool, but a doff style system, I don't know, unless they really make it stand out differently from the usual doff missions I don't expect much to write home about.
i played assassin's creed 2 revelations, 3 and black flag. especially black flag as that is exactly what is going on here i would guess, if our other ships are going to be used for card trading games, the chances are it will be in combat in the doff screen in a badly made fight screen where the RNG rules. each fight you get damaged ship, you must repair it with dilithium and EC, but if it is a success the reward should just cover the costs on a standard quest, of course epic rare quests offer the most reward with the most danger...
so really if its anything like the blackflag capture of ships and doff them on other quests and it ends up the same way, no thanks. i wont be using it.

Eve though we don't have much information at ths point I can answer the OPs question regardless: If it would be DOFFing with ships I would not like it, no.
The DOFF system is something I do not consider part of the game, actually. It's a minigame with trading cards, a pure mobile/facebook clicky game which has little to no impact on my actual gameplay - and I like playing the game instead of moving sliders and waiting for timegates. If we get DOFFing with ships it is, in my personal opinion, once again a simulation of game content instead of having something to actually play. I hope S 11 with all the rebuilding and hope will have some real game to play a well, like some form of Exploration/random missions and such.
If completion of the timegates and resource sinks would at some point unlock an ability to call in one of our ships captaned by one of our boffs I would already be happier, though. Of course this means mindlessly clicking on "start mission" and waiting 20-40h every time I log in and not taking notice of the system otherwise until I reach that point, but it would already be a nice feature.

"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
Don't get me wrong... I have no problems with the Doff system overall, but I feel that relegating our other ships to similar duties takes away from an opportunity for another method of gameplay here. We have battlezones where we can take some of our boffs, why not have something similar for space where we can use our other ships?
We already have a doff system, why do we need another one?

Yes, that's exactly what this "admiralty" system is, a doffing with ships. Nothing more, nothing less. It will be bugged, half baked and use only little of its potential because it must be heavily monetized.(just like "new and engaging ways to participate in R&D system through research lab", everything what was left of it is few DOFF assignments for bonus R&D research XP) It will just make you buy every ship in C-store, every lobi/lockbox/promotion! ship because it will have special "traits and stats", mark my words.
I do like the addition of a shipduff system, butt it's just not what I really hoped Season 11 would be about ... purrmeowting a buff to a captain and get a five ship fleet (similar to away team on ground) in space.

I know polls here are bad at STO but I would have assumed they would have improved after some time, guess I'm wrong.
Why would you create a poll knowing that we don't know the specific details of the system. Are you going to make ANOTHER poll after we do get more specific details and get peoples reaction to it then?
Hard to make a judgement call on something that has little info let alone something that hasn't been released yet....
Retired. I'm now in search for that perfect space anomaly.
no comment on whether I like the idea or not.
I`m only posting one or two things that springs to mind, they have not long introduced the swap ship in space feature and now the ships that are tied up on these ship/doff missions will likely be unavailable to switch to.
also who is going to crew these ships if its doffs then these doffs will be unavailable for doff missions and if its boffs surely you will loose any attributes or abilities they give you in ground and space combat.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
I can't say until I see a realistic assessment of the cost involved: whether my old free ships will have any value, whether I can just spawn Vestas to satisfy assignments or if instead it tries to force you to buy lots of expensive ships, and whether or not you're forced to upgrade everything on all of these ships or if instead it's OK to fly on vendor trash.
If you can do it without unreasonable costs, as (other than DOFF slots) you can with the current DOFF system, fine. If it's a money-pit gimmick, not cool.
Admittedly a DOFF system sounds like less server load and game breakage than the other idea (a fleet of your ships in a mission), but considering there was a time where the legacy DOFF system had served timeout problems when people completed a lot of assignments, and assignments still do not properly update, I'm not willing to say whether or not it will cause problems.
Overall, since I have not seen details yet, I can't make a final vote. I will prepare for the worst (something so broken and grindy that I am forced not to participate despite what will likely be a tantalizing prize for those who do) but hope for the best (something working and requiring a massive grind or forcing you to spend).

To be fair, the Article states it would be "similar". To give us a frame of reference. Its too early to tell exactly what it will be, and whether or not it is something that I will enjoy.

I might dabble with it on my main, but more details are needed.
If I cannot put one of my bridge officers in one of my other/old ships, as a companion in space, I will most likely ignore it entirely.
Why would you create a poll knowing that we don't know the specific details of the system. Are you going to make ANOTHER poll after we do get more specific details and get peoples reaction to it then?
