Alt-Tab Crash

Accidentally posted this in the wrong forum. Correcting that now.

Alright, I'm going into this having almost no information. All I can say is that I've spent the last two hours **** with the drivers on my computer thinking it was my problem, and I do not believe it is my problem.

I can get into STO and I can run it but as soon as I alt-tab out of it, say to check the wiki or purchase zen or ANYTHING that takes me out of the game, STO crashes. The program ceases to respond and I have no options except to kill the process manually. I do not get a log report, I do not get the chance to respond to cryptic, and there's no symptoms before it dies. it just dies. I can repeat it endlessly and at this point, as far as I'm concerned, it's unplayable. There are so many things that I need to reference outside of the game in order to get things done, that this kills any progress I could make.

Edit: I've tried to replicate it with Champions Online and Neverwinter Online. Neither game crashes if I alt-tab out of it. This further leads me to believe that the problem is not with me, it is with the game. Something in the game is causing this, and I have no idea how to find out what it is, OR how to fix it.

I have the same problem, except I only get this problem when trying to run a second instance of STO through the Launcher... not through Arc. I have a Cell Ship on one account and my main characters on another. Obviosuly this is a major issue for me as I run Cell Ship missions once a week... which happens to be today.

This issue started for me after a fresh install of Win 10 from a USB stick and a fresh install of STO. Running the game as an Administrator and in Compatibility Mode has no effect.

Doing a complete reinstall of STO and hoping that maybe that will fix the problem... but I'm not holding my breath.

Edit: Did a complete reinstall of STO and it made no difference. Am now having the same problems you are with getting "Not Responding" every time I Alt-Tab out and try to get back into the game window (Doesn't matter what other windows I Tab to now, I crash.).

No problems at all running Champions.

This happened to me as well with my Desktop (before it was upgraded to Windows 10) and started in the last STO update. But at the same time, my Laptop runs STO on Arc doesn't crash when Alt-Tabbing.

Well, today's patch did not fix my problem. I still get Not Responding on the first game window if I open up a second one. Was really hoping that today's fix would have resolved that issue.

But so far, I haven't crahed from Alt-Tabbing to other windows. That is at least some progress.

Using (windows key) D to get to the desktop helps, but not totally eliminate the crashing.

do you run the game in fullscreen mode or windowed mode? This makes a difference, especially if your STO screen resolution is different from your desktop resolution. Windows can cough at this sometimes. i've found it best to have your both desktop and game resolution the same then run in windowed mode.

This has nothing to do with the problem.
After one of these "patches" alt-tabbing ceased to work.
If I'm playing the game and any Windows alert comes up that counts as alt-tabbing and my game will freeze.

yeah, sto was allways very alt tab unfrindly, but yorproblem is even worse, as for me, alt tabing resulted in only crash in cca 40% of cases.
if you need alt-tab just to look for something, there is one solution i adaped, simply buy tablet ( more bigger is better), and then just use tablet for browsing net and other stuff. and if you need to alt-tab to domething at pc, well you are srewed. lets hope game will generate crash report one day and devs will look at it and fix it some dayy.
