In the future?? dude, in the future you will have better choices than this excelsior. Again, you have plenty of cruisers to fly that are exactly like this excelsior. The original look was that, the original and thats the reason a lot of people like it and the only reason they wanted a better version to fit the original skin. If they didnt have the original skin, im pretty sure almost nobody will buy this ship. Because i already have other 4 or 5 options that actually are exactly the same as this excelsior lol. (aka t6 cruisers).

And THAT is why I wish the ensign slot was universal. There are many other better options out there already.

Still will not bring as much to the table as say the T6 battlecruisers, but would make it less of a "sigh" when stepping into it.

As to people wondering when we'll get a Pilot Spec cruiser, I'm guessing that will be with the T6 Sovereign.

I'm hoping T6 sovereign will have a new spec like weapons specialist . Like was shown in the pilot ship featured episode.

Excelsior was the best pick for a pilot cruiser, I know often the excelsior was show in next gen to be the ship the admirals picked but most of that was because budget limitations. Sulu is one of the most well know pilots in star trek and his ship he commanded was a excelsior.

Another point is the command battle-cruisers have replaced the excelsior as the command vessel of choice for admirals

I'd like to add my "vote" to the chorus: This should have been a cruiser with Pilot specialization. It would have been canon appropriate. I think Cryptic missed an opportunity here.

A universal Ensign would have been nice, too.

I flew the Excelsior since the day it was released until I bought my Command Battlecruiser (only changing to upgrade to the Fleet Excel along the way). I like the Excel. I wanted to like this T6 version...

But, I dunno. I'm really enjoying the Presidio. And since the stats on the new Excel don't "wow" me, I'm gonna pass for now. Maybe down the line, if it's on sale and I've got a little extra to waste, I'll grab it. Maybe... >shrug<

You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.

LOL :D It baffles me just how many people aparently don't know how to use an Excelsior. No wonder the general opinion on STO's population is that it can't handle any content that requires any ammont of gray matter involved.
Because most players don't want to be gimped the moment they leave space dock. But, congratulations on finding your own way to feel like a special snowflake.

The ship is horrid. Complete luck of imagination. I'm not referring to stats, its horrid even before i can take a look at them. You effectively repack another hull, and sell it as something new!!!!!!!!! WTF... You cant hire an artist to draw something new? Fine, ask the community, we can provide you with designs, if you can't make anything new... Horrid!!!!! Further more, why the F2P cant get a single T6 ship token at their faction starport, once lvl 60 ? Why ? Why ?!?!
Look, we who buy ships, will buy em, if we like them... but why cant F2P be motivated to play this game? Why you pushing them away, and still maintain F2P model? why? why ? WHY? If you want it to be a free to play model, then, the F2P players, should have access to at very least ONE maximum tier ship of their faction, in star port... i do not mean events, i mean, actual token, for an actual ship, that they can get then ever they get to maximum lvl. So why ?
If this game dies, this is going to be one of its nail.

Perhaps the reason for the ensign station being locked into engineering is because the ship has 2 Lt. Commander stations (1 is tactical and the other is eng/command hybrid) compared to the T5 Excelsior. On the bright side at least you can use fire-at-will 3 or beam overload 3. Although, the T5 Excelsior has an ensign engineering station as well.

It doesn't make sense. Back when we had the Galaxy class "reboot" they changed the ensign tactical station on the Gal-X to a universal. Players pointed out this was pointless because most will use it for tactical anyway. And players begged them to change the ensign engineering station on the Gal-R to a universal but that never happened. The T6 Andromeda did have an ensign universal station so it gave us what we wanted before. And the Andromeda has pretty much the same boff seating and console slots as a fleet Gal-R but with the addition of 1 station being a specialization hybrid and a starship trait to unlock. So in essence the T6 Andromeda, IMO, is superior the the T5 Galaxy and I had discharged my fleet Gal-R eventually after buying the Andromeda.

I am working on getting the T6 Excelsior and I'll probably discharge my T5 fleet Excelsior afterwards since, like the Andromeda, it's pretty much the same in terms of stations and consoles only much better.

From what I've seen, ships being re-released as T6 are pretty much the same as their T5 counterparts but better. In my opinion it makes T5 fleet versions redundant, especially since T6 versions can use the T5 costume parts. It's a bit annoying because Cryptic said a long time ago that our T5 ships were never going to be outdated and useless and so far that seems to not be true. Oh well. Thems the breaks I guess.

I'm not normally the type of person to complain about ship stats, but I can't help but really disappointed with this one. You give us a T6 version of Sulu's iconic starship AND YOU DON'T GIVE IT A PILOT STATION? The Excelsior is the reason 'Fly Her Apart' even exists!

And no set bonus with the T3 Excelsior console either? What is there to set this ship apart from the Guardian cruiser? :(

So ... they add a Eng slot to make it LtC and give players the option to use Command abilities (or NOT) and it's a terrible ship. That's bullsh*t. The command seat is a choice, not a requirement. Although the Trait does push players to use OE or AB, it's really up to the player's choice. And freedom of choice is good.

Could it have received the Universal? Sure. But it didn't. Thus the Resolute is MORE like the Excelsior than any other ship ... and that was the idea.

It's a cruiser, and thus not built to fly nimbly-pimbly around a nail in space. The Pilot abilities would not work for this ship or any cruiser. If anything, Cryptic should not have used the quote "Fly Her Apart". Seriously, the quote came from Sulu trying to get somewhere faster ... in a straight line. NONE of the pilot abilities resemble the homage to that quote.

The Excelsior is more known for it's (literal) command and diplomatic uses throughout TNG. Adding Command abilities is simply more appropriate. Not necessarily better, but certainly more expected.

The Command cruisers are similar .. yet not. They have less Cruiser commands and have a hangar. The Resolute has the full package without a toy to help it. This was the same as the original.

The new console keeps the ship as it was originally designed, yet using it is also player choice.

As soon as Cryptic changed the sector maps (which was something the players have been wanting for a while, The Excelsior's Transwarp ability got screwed (or seriously diluted) to the point that it's really a non-issue. So thank the gods the Resolute DOESN'T have a console package to use with the Excelsior (who the HELL used the Transwarp Console anyway?).

^ Welp, that's fair.

Yet, for those wanting (needing?) a console pack bonus from the Resolute would require using that console as part of the build. It's TRIBBLE at worst and temporarily used at best.

Other than it looking bland, I really can't see much of a point of buying the Resolute. Why not just save/grind up 500 more zen to get a Command ship? I feel that a ship like this could have benefited from Pilot Cruiser, not because of the famous "Fly her apart" quote, but the fact that the console it comes with seems pretty pilot based.

Also, how long will it take for your designers to go and add in the option for the Saucer Fins on the Excelsior? All you guys did was remove the two extra impulse engines on the Retrofit and call it a day.

I actually like the new design. I was probably expecting a 24th century update to the Excelsior (which is what most of the fan made refit designs of it out there look like). However this is a 25th century rework, hence the 2410 nacelles with the big bussard collectors, chevron primary hull, deflector strip etc. I can get behind that. I'm enjoying having a skin that makes my favourite canon ship now fit in better with the game world (a 200+ year old ship did feel out of place, much as I loved it). The posts above saying nothing was done with the Exy skin - are you looking at the Fleet version or the C-Store Resolute? Looks pretty different to the original to me.

Actually, it DOES have a console bonus. If you equip the Resolute's console with the Transwarp Computer console you get "Hot Pursuit", and they are a "Hot Pursuit" set. That said, no idea what this even does. It doesn't give a power button for the tray, and it doesn't seem to give a passive bonus to the ship while floating outside a starbase. I checked, and it also doesn't seem to affect the stats on the "Pursuit Mode" power.

To be honest, I can't find anything anywhere on what this is supposed to do. It looks like something that was unfinished before release of the ship. Unless someone can elaborate for me?

So far, I'm finding it to be inferior to the Andromeda, unless you want an Excelsior skin. I agree with statements that this ship should have had a pilot spec seat - even if at a lower rank (maybe even something like Lt Pilot Ensign Command). The Pathfinder only had a Lt Intel after all.

Those were the days! [= As much as I don't like the ship, I also have it on a couple of my toons because 300k EC for the Transwarp Computer made getting around a lot easier back then and it was also one of a few universal consoles in the game at the time as well. I sure do miss the old STF's, which had story, challenge, and actually rewarded rewards that people wanted!

ok so I was thinking I made 3 changes to the layout for the new resolute cruiser lets see if you guys find this more appealing.

Resolute Advanced Heavy Cruiser revised officer layout:
Lt Commander tactical
Commander engineering
Lt Commander engineering/pilot (changed from command)
Lieutenant science/intelligence (added the intelligence slot to give it something unique)
Ensign Universal (the fixed ensign engineering slot was one of the most criticized things about the old excelsior)

Now I for one find this to be a much more appealing design and it is different from previous cruisers. You have your hybrid pilot seat and I removed the command slot for reasons I previously posted.

I don't know who you are but, my friend you have nailed it 100%. This is exactly what the ship should have been. This ship (for me anyways) is and always will be sulu's ship. It should reflect his background. Even if its just a little. Sulu is a pilot and the ship in some way should have reflected that. I think cryptic had a rare oportunity here and they blew it big time. There could have been a T6 aniversary sulu 3 pack or anything.

I really wasn't all that interested in the pilot ships and the only ship I own with a pilot seat is the T6 JHSS. IF the T6 excelsior was more of a pilot ship. I would have bought in in a heartbeat. Made a new character "sulu's grandson" wrote up a backstory and would have been a happy camper. Cryptic, opportunitys like this don't come by that much. Fix this. You won't regret it.

and the worst/best part?
cryptic isn't even trying anymore LOL they didn't even BOTHER with a 2 set combo for the existing excelsior console LOL!!!

by the way, that old transwarp computer console could have easily been tweaked to offer a benefit to SOMETHING MORE when slotted on an excelsior, as in to turn rate/ damage/ speed/ acc/ ANYTHING, that way- its still a universal, it still could be slotted on anyship, its just, when its on the excelsior you get this little bit/thing extra... and then have a 2 set bonus
This right here. Pierced bone and marrow, divided soul and body. How true these words.

I find it somewhat funny that with all 3 CBCs, you could make something that looks way closer to the excelsior than this ship does. The Guardian at least resembled the Ambassador/Galaxy. This ship is just one big "meh" in my opinion.
• cmdrscarletcmdrscarlet Member Posts: 5,137 Arc User
Well TRIBBLE. There is a console bonus and that bonus is a buff to DE damage. I wonder if that is a final bonus or not. 15% is pretty hefty. Good grief the Transwarp Computer console suuuuucks.

I'm not surprised by this at all. These are pretty much the stats I posted a while back. I just wasn't sure if the En would be made Lt or the Lt made LtCmd, but I knew for certain that it would just be another command cruiser.

Do us all a favor and convert the Ensign Engineering into a Universal.

PS: I was very disappointed to see that no work was put into updating the canon skins of the ship, after that amazing update the Galaxy got but I heard someone had to that in his free time thanks for that.
The Hot Pursuit 2-pc set bonus gives a couple passives: +15% Directed Energy Weapon Damage and -10% Bridge Officer Cooldown.

You'd have to look in the info on one of the consoles to see it, as neither of them is something that's really obvious.
I really wish theyd mentioned that before. Thats actually a really nice set bonus, though seeing as I only own a T5 fleet Excelsior it doesnt really affect me. Nice for those who do have it though.

I still see no reason to leave my command ship. With the Geneva saucer, presidio nacelles and Geneva body it looks much better, and far closer to what a 25th Century Excelsior should look like.

I love the excelsior that much - I spent all my zen on a 3 pack for a saucer/body option. But this ship has nothing to set it apart from the myriad other command cruisers including the Galaxy, CBCs and even the Samsar. Pilot would have been much better, or even f it had no pilot if it just had something to offer so it could stand shoulder to shoulder witht he other cruisers.

One thing that they havent made clear is if the ship has the small in-built bonus to power levels the T5 had?

IIRC, the old T5 Excelsior had a small but noticeable passive boost to the power level boosting skills (like Starhip Engine Performance) which scaled with level, like the old advanced transwarp drive coil console.

I meant the actual saucer model of the Excelsior itself is the same as the Retrofit one, but without the extra impulse engines. There are a lot of inconsistencies from the studio model, versus what is in game.

http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/scans/excelsior1.htm

I was really hoping Cryptic would give the same treatment to the old Excelsior model like they did with the Galaxy when they made the T6 ver.

For the Galaxy, a brand new model has been made. Starship connoisseurs will enjoy finding all of the small features and details pulled from the source material such as the numbered shuttle bays or the ship’s giant arboretum windows.

Ah I see what you mean. Fair comment, I agree, a revamped Excelsior skin would indeed have been nice to see. (And Ex Astris Scientia is absolutely the bee's knees for starship fans isn't it? Bernd does a very fine job there).
