Game Launcher freezes internet connection temporarily

Hello,

I was just wondering if someone else experienced the same (has been going on for a long time, but just haven't been bothered to ask). When starting up the game launcher, the game asks you to wait before the actual login screen is displayed. After logging in another waiting time is needed to log you in to the account server.

Well, it is during these two 'waiting times' that my internet connection freezes. Browsing to any website in Firefox/Chrome/IE while in these waiting windows (each window taking about 10-25s) results in a connection time-out. Once the waiting time is over, everything is back to normal.

This also occurs with the Champions Online / Neverwinter launcher (which is the same engine I assume).

Does anyone have any idea why this is occurring and what I can do on my side to prevent these short 'outages'?

Many thanks!

Could be your firewall or internet connection. Good place to start.

Check for malware on the computer. Use another computer to download and create CDs for AV "rescue CDs" like ones from Avira, AVG or F-Secure. If you have flash drive, you can build a flash drive using YUMI from pendrivelinux.com to run them from it. If you have a EFI/ UEFI computer, you may have to play with BIOS settings for them to work. If that finds nothing, get ahold of ccleaner and run that.

    Hello,

A late update on this thread, so my apologies on that (holidays and such):

Many thanks for the suggestions, and I agree that in 90% of the cases the above may solve the issue.

But I have to convince you that this situation is the 10% that doesn't fit in. Therefore, the following additional information:
    - My system is 100% clean. Recently, my system was formatted and reinstalled (Win7 - 64-bit on 25th July 2015), and reinstalled my protection tools and ran a full system scan. No issues. Also ran hijackthis and cccleaner in windows safe mode to be sure, no issues were found.
    - After the clean system install, STO was downloaded and installed to a different hard drive (to see if that would be the culprit)
    - The problem still occurred. During launcher startup and after logging in (the launcher says 'patching...'), my internet connection freezes again briefly (as mentioned in the original thread). However, now it gets even worse: the launcher now also switches from 'not responding' to being back active and it has an effect on my system too: both my internet browser and windows explorer (taskbar, etc) seem to freeze occasionally during this period as well.

Once the game is patched, I can play perfectly fine. But it's just these 2 'outages' that keep returning and keep worrying me. I've disabled my protection tools (active protection, firewall, internet url blocking, ..) to see if that would have any effect, but it didn't.

Note that this problem only occurs with cryptic game launchers (STO, Neverwinter, CO) and I never have this problem with any other game. Since I can't trace back the issue to any to any of my installed software (i.e. firewall, ...) I am now more thinking in the direction that it has to do something with the launcher itself.

Any other help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
