and,
if your a cool, reasonable guy thats not afraid to extend the olive branch out to people you don't know... that in time, you will find yourself with a large friend list of folks online that love to do pvp with the same rules you do
been there done that.
had to completly spec my ships with counters to the intel/pilot abilities or a sat looking at a completely greyed out power tray. that if i wasnt just scudded by surgical strikes + neutronic.
the other option, completly ban the new boff ability classes.
fact of the matter. easier and more fun to pvp elsewhere and use sto as something to fiddle with as i am watching netflix. since its neither interesting or engaging enough to just play sto.
Highlighted that. The only thing that would be a bit interesting is the nested Fleet thing.
But I am pretty sure something's going to go wrong and stuff will be broken on release. It's just how I see it. In a way or another, it always ended up like that. Heck last time I checked the Manasa was still huge in sector space.
Just so some useful information is posted in this thread that hasn't been repeated 10,000 times over the past 4 years, we'll use a visual diagram for simplicity since atm were asking people Que Pasa!?
Welp, I stumbled over some of Sharx's vids that I was in and got a little nostalgic. Then I came here and had a huge shock! No fleet bashing, no KDF bashing, no Ker'rat QQ. Seems like all the fun stuff is gone!
Nothing wrong with pvp indeed. :P

i've been called to adapt after a lil' complaint ("call it bs if it is bs!") after an arena today. this complaint was after i got ripped into pieces several times under the influence of:
-ss3
(-dsrb? not sure)
-neut ts3
-plasma xplsions
-internal structure integrity thingie
-kemocite
(-the things i not realized)
sometimes all together, sometimes only some of them. no talk of being hit by faw with plasma xplosions while being cloaked...
"more res" i was told. while being on a sci, even with the subspace field modulator onboard... once i popped everything there was (sci-fleet, bfi, sf, st, sfm, ph and whatnot alltogether, max powerlevels for aux and shields... like an instapop lulz)
don't get me wrong, i already kinda adapted before that match. as said on my sci, bringing plasma cons, nuc-wave3, tbr2 2x with all party-build.
but i know that all of that build is bs. just as i know i could push it way further, could staple tons of more bs on top.
my conclusion:
skill in general has lost the chance to glance in todays pvp-environment. it's all about bs!
everything since dr pvp-wise is bs! and most of what came since end of s5 pvp-wise was bs. no matter the level of adaption, it still is bs!
because bs stays bs, no matter what color one paints it ..... kkthxbb*sigh*

The skill factor started to fade away with New Romulus, DR it was just the final blow that took the skill factor out of the game completely.

aye! rommies were like the very obvious sword of damocles... but i think it already was kinda there before. it just was subliminal, due to no fleets got their holdings maxed in the first months.
though, with release of the fleet system we got that 10th con-slot and the party started. before a bug was powerful yeah, afterwards it became what it stayed.
some say it started with the unlocking of t3-cons.
then the rommies came and everything was doooomed lol
2pc borg-set and maco shields. no carrier spam in fed-fed matches ever. blue mk xi against purple mk xii, where's the problem?! those were the times *sigh*...
I for one want a developer and publisher to step up to the plate and approach CBS with a new player versus player Star Trek game and get them to cancel or not renew cryptic's contract. I want cryptic and PWE as far away from Star Trek as possible!

I'm not saying it was perfect, but the game was better before Cryptic was bought by PWE. There are all these good games and they go "let's buy that and make it ours!" The mechanics in this game are practically non-existant. However, some idiots (like myself) continue to play it. Oh, yeah, and I'm a ground PvP player and we've been having "power creep" problems long before you guys and with a much greater impact. I get it, "there is ground in this game?", but come on guys you washed out after a couple months, we've been going through this for years. Oh and I'm not supporting beameddown in any way (sorry) private channels have been proven to fail, but wait and usually things get better for a bit for it to be fun enough (don't say you've been waiting for a long time cause we've litterally been waiting since the game started).

Something i found immeasurably helpful over many decades and many games of PvP game play is the Thraddash philosophy. What that is? Lets hear it directly from the Thraddash:
On a second note: what PVP needs is open pvp with large areas and missions with high rewards. Something like the Dyson PvE zone, just in a PvP environment. You could even throw ground elements into it for capturing planets, etc, etc. We need a major PvP revamp, open PvP with objectives tied not to shooting players but setting them up in a warzone, like Ker'rat, but much more diverse with multiple areas to fight over and make those fights meaningful. It shouldn't be mandatory, for the people who do not like PvP, but it should be an area where everybody can go to for loot, dil, XP, etc.
Like Dark Age of Camelot. Anybody remembers that one? Castle assaults with siege machines involving entire guilds. Or Aces High war theater style gameplay revolving around conquering airfields in a WW2 aviation environment? That is where we want to go. PvP queues for competitive game play do have their purpose and its good that those are there but the truth is that this sort of duel isn't really that practical. It gets quickly dominated by prebuild fleet teams and the rest basically marches into the meat grinder, which is no fun, which is precisely why it won't work. It works only for a small fraction of players and they are not that active. You need a more general, open, broad approach for the majority. That is my recommendation to the devs. Like Starfleet Command sector warfare. And if you do it well, i guarantee you a surge of new players.
