There was no choice to be given...it didn't exist. How is that any different than getting any ship and some other ship coming along that you'd prefer...and saying you wouldn't have gotten the ship you did if you'd had the choice...er...you didn't have the choice, the later ship didn't exist.

How can you even ask that?

This isn't like the Phantom v. Defiant debate, where the ships look similar but are actually different ships. THIS IS THE SAME SHIP, but now, with a choice.

If anything, this is the Bug Ship all over again. Okay, T5-U is not T6, and "T6 capabilities" meant T5-U... fine. There is ZERO precedence for Cryptic offering the same ship with variant specialization seating, nor did they give us any indication that such a thing would be possible. Not only did they NOT give us any indication that such a thing could happen, they did it first on a promo ship (which, if I'm not mistaken, have worse odds than lock box ships)!

What if they make a Pathfinder with Command seating, but lock out previous purchasers because "you got the ship you paid for"? And, you may say that the Command spec is inferior... fine, but what if they release the Astrophysicist spec that more suits your play style?

This is a very bad, poorly thought-out precedence.

Please pass this proposal along, as those of us who own the other lock box ships are now pretty sure (and very disappointed) that we are about to get shafted.

Make the C-store upgrade tokens take ALL ships half a level, usable once.

Own a regular T5? Your token gets you to T5U.

Own a lock box ship that had a free T5U upgrade? Your C-store token takes you to T6.

Even this would be an equitable solution, and I have a strong suspicion it would actually guarantee Cryptic a superior revenue stream compared to what they will get if they expect only players who have yet to be alienated by such business practices and write the rest of us off as acceptable losses.

Part of why I do not pay Cryptic is because I have sensed that as far as some are concerned, I am simply an acceptable loss, and that it is considered more important to entice new players who have yet to be taken in by something like this.

I truly suspect the number of people willing to pay a straight $7.50 for each lock box ship they own, to upgrade them, would be more than Cryptic will get from continuing with the current policy and alienating more and more customers and relying only on unjaded, uninformed newbies who don't know the risks.

If offered the option for my Dromias, I MIGHT even consider opening my wallet for the first time in 9+ months, to show my support, and even upgrade my RP Galor, which I don't even take into events, but just have because my main is a Cardassian.

    Cause it's simple.

    Did the choice exist? No.

So they didn't take away anything from you? No.

It's a trip that you bring up the Pathfinder...cause how many folks bought an Intrepid shortly before the Pathfinder came out, eh?

How about folks that bought a Guardian cause there was no T6 Galaxy...then voila...there was a T6 Galaxy?

    Etc, etc, etc...it's nothing new.

I don't think there is the option to get a switch from a previous one.

LT, I posted a proposal about that. I actually think you guys stand to make more money if you were to implement it. Come on, enlightened self interest FTW, pretty please... :D

    Trendy,

You guys should so much say that, since we are fighting the Galaxic Empire of the Dread Iconians, all the known races of the galaxy have given support to our three factions to defeat...the defeatless!!

Yes. Even certain factions of Iconian Servitor Races have pockets of resistance which support throwing the yoke of tyranny off their race's shoulders and finally become free to lead their own destiney.

And if you use my idea I'll only charge you guys 50 billion energy credits, payable in sums of 100 million energy credits over the life of the final lump sum 50 billion energy credit amount!!

Act now and you can get another idea for the price of one!!

This offer ends in 6 days, 12 hours, and 52 minutes....tick tock tick tock!

Couldn't that seat be made universal instead? Offering people the option to use Intelligence or Command powers? If you're giving people a choice of ship, then you might as well allow those people to have that decision running; this would further give to those who already have the vessel, rather than take away from them.

I support the idea of developing the capability to allow players to seat a choice of specialization in those slots, even if they have to limit which specializations can be slotted in any particular ship due to balance concerns.

It really doesn't make much sense to me to have variant ships that are only different in which specialization they can seat. This really is not a lot of incentive to have BOFFs trained in multiple specializations when you can only seat one.

On the other hand, promo ships are what they are. They're limited-edition prizes. Getting one version of the Sheshar does not automatically entitle people to both, and nowhere is it a given that someone winning a prize must be able to trade it in for something different. It's a prize.

Cryptic didn't cave-in over the JH kerfluffle and they're not going to budge on this, either. Command powers didn't exist when the Sheshar first came out, so they couldn't have given anyone a reward choice.

I find it promising that they are doing it now. It suggests they may be willing to do more of the same for future promotions and future ships.

However, in full disclosure, I don't want the Sheshar and I'm saving up my Zen for some other ship I'm hoping gets released to the C-Store at some point.

It seems to me that maybe in a year or so if we are still going strong there will be a huge change with all of this and we will be allowed to use any specialization we want in universals. The whole system sort of just sits there asking for that.

However, it will not be put into effect now - at the earliest it would be this fall if there's not an awesome new specialization and ship types in the works.

I wouldn't mind actually having one of these but its not going to happen unless someone gives me one.

But I rarely get anything of value from lock/chance boxes and such I'm sorry Cryptic, but no sale. The last time I bothered with mass chance box opening I managed to get around 80 lobi, 3 various and assorted mirror universe ships, and a squat bunch of rich dilithium claims.. Nothing else was usefull or of any particular value to me either as a collectable item, or of any particular use in game.

Ya'll are way to sly to bother posting an odds table of any specific rewards. (doesn't seem to hurt scratcher sales and the state lotto here in California..where cryptic studio's is, but .. yea its not gambling right.. ahh right?) I suppose its not gambling because you cant make money off of it.. well.. the player can't make money off of it... I guess its not gambling because in reality it pays out 100% to the house. But it sure feels like gambling, and it sure acts like gambling, and it feels very dishonest. SO, no sale. I'll buy stuff I am interested in. But if your going to bury what I'm interested in behind 2 pay walls and a chance box your wasting my time. It is sly...and with me at least, it's a little too clever. It feels like a con job. It looks like a con job, and it smells and plays out like a con job. While it may not quite fit the "criminal" definition of a con job.. it does a real good job of meeting the "civil" definition of a con job.

Bear in mind that a long explanation/justification for a particular action is usually a big clue. If the provider of an offer has to go into detail to explain or justify the offering... to "sell" you on it, then.. its not a very good offer.

I'm eventually hoping that the US Federal government will step in and start regulating this sort of walking the line activity from MMO operators. It took decades before states like California enacted "Lemon" law legislation to curb the worst abuses in the used car industry. It defiantly feels like it walks the line of fraudulent behavior on the part of a business entity. And if business entities are not willing to self regulate (and show some brains by making sure the end customer knows they self regulate) then eventually its going to require action on the part of the government sector to set and regulate fair practices.

Anyone with any brains realizes that MMO's need to earn an income for their operators. But where does the line get drawn between what constitutes earning a paycheck for fair services rendered, and exploiting your customers hopes and wants in a way that is unfair and un-equitable?

It's still at the "Wild Wild West" stage in the MMO industry. I do hope that those professionals in the industry who give a damd about more then next week, next month, or the next quarterly report understand the need to self regulate. WHEN, not if, but WHEN government decides that regulation is needed, there will end up being restrictions above and beyond where they need to be. Politicians and Bureaucracies almost always tend to move for more restrictive initial policies. Its a conservative mental bent to prevent criticism for "Not Doing Enough!"

Most likely it'll be the nail in the coffin that eventually kills the Free to Play MMO model for the majority of operators. I can see it happening to Star Trek Online, cryptic studio's and PWI.

And folks.. This is Trek.. and it really is all about the moral. The moral is what has made Trek so amazingly popular.. a view of a future where we will do our damdest to create fair and equitable conditions for people to enjoy their lives, to prevent exploitation. Success is an elusive quality in this particular endeavor, but our morals don't demand we succeed, they only demand that we always make the effort. And that is a big part of what Star Trek has always been about.

The real issue is neither simple nor easily solved. But if Cryptic doesn't get off it lazy complacent corporate butt, they're will be eventually hell to pay. Go read history folks.

Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past can consider them selves lucky to only have to suffer the same consequences of the original TRIBBLE ups. Usually... the consequences are worse!

I was hyped when I heard rumors of the Command Sheshar, now seeing it doesn't even have a different Mastery Ability or Hull Material, no new consoles, just a swapped LTC Hybrid....

I am quite happy with my Intelligence SheShar with Override Subsystem Safties.

Let me know when we get the Pilot Sheshar that we saw in the top picture of Pilot Abilities. That will get me grinding EC like to tomorrow.

I don't understand people feeling burned, Intel abilities are way more useful.

Nice for people who want to have Command though, but not at all feeling burned myself.

If I want a LTC Command, I can use the Kobali ship, or go full command in my KDF Command Cruiser 3-pk.

Hmm, might buy packs and sell on the exchange just to raise up funds for the Pilot SheShar in 6 months.

I'm not mad about the ship; I much prefer my Sheshar with intel.

Now, the precedent this is setting...
    SCM - Crystal C. (S) - [00:12] DMG(DPS) - @jarvisandalfred: 8.63M(713.16K) - Fed Sci

    SCM - Hive (S) - [02:31] DMG(DPS) - @jarvisandalfred: 30.62M(204.66K) - Fed Sci

I also support being given the option to pay for some sort of token to upgrade my T5U Bulwark to T6. I am really curious if more ppl would shell out for that then the r&d roulette. I guess we'll never know unless they took a chance and tried it to compare the numbers.

While we're thinking crazy, why not also sell tokens that will let you add a specialization? Say one for command and one for Intel? I tell you right now if you gave me a way to pay to get my Bulwark to T6 and add those specialization options, I will buy all the today.

    But since that won't happen...

I was wondering when it was gonna come back. Any chance of seeing the Voth ship again?

If you're going to throw the Elachi some love you gotta give us some Voth love too.

I don't get it. Are there genuinely enough people who are gullible enough to fall for this? These tactics should have died off a long time ago with poor response compared to simply offering the ship to buy for $2-$5.

Then again, I guess no one ever went broke counting on the stupidity of the common man.

If only I knew changing a few lines of code on existing asset would be so lucrative, I would have supported the Steam skyrim paid mod, and upgraded the vanilla stuff to sell it. Who would have known I could have made a fine Cryptic dev that way ?
But then my sense of ethic might have come in the way.

I can't wait to see the release of the pilot JHAS.

If you have been playing this game longer than a year. You may remember there was a time when people went absolutely crazy mad over the stats of the Galaxy X. Cryptics response was it was "IMPOSSIBLE" to change the Boff layout of a ship once it had been put ingame. They claimed they would have to go to each and every persons account and manually change thier shps boff layout. But here is a clear example of them changeing the layout of a ship already ingame.

Talk about lazy. Instead of making a New R&D Ship witch would probably do better casue nobody has it. They just changed the stats of a older ship. They assume that the "SHIP COLLECTORS" in the game will have to have every variant of every ship so they will spend big money getting this one. There is so much wrong here. Where does it end? This is Video Game Heresy !!!!!!!!!!!!!

At the bank. It ends when it stops being profitable.

However, enough people have voted with their wallet and said they really do not mind this at all. So, as much as I might consider it unethical, the majority has spoken. And they said they don't care.

Not offering the choice to swap for existing ships is pretty poor form in my opinion. I'm happy with my intel Sheshar but I got mine from the exchange and didn't plough a load of real money into shaking it loose from a gambling box. Those that did spend real money are going to feel like they are getting a raw deal here.

    ...common sense and/or reading comprehension.

There's a difference between a ship that's in game and an available ship.

How many people are flying Scimitars, right? Those ships...are in game. If they were to have to make a change to the Scimitar, they'd have to go through and change all those ships. Making a change to the Scimitars that have not be sold...wouldn't require that.

So calling them lazy...well...er...uh...is kind of funny giving it had nothing to do with what they said.
