Won't be enough considering near one thousand replies. Open a coffee shop right next to Trendy's desk, might get done with about 700 of em by the time the coffee shop shuts down?

I'm no MBA but I would have softened the blow of losing the Risian Ships by announcing what the new summer ship is first.

If it's a T6 Corvette, with all the customization of the T5, then it'd be basically a no harm, no foul situation.

But now, even if it is a T6 Corvette, you've got an easily foreseen firestorm of well deserved displeasure.

Since pilot ships just came out, who knows, that may be what they're up to.

This right here is true. It takes time to catalog and address issues. I send a preliminary feedback report usually a few hours after any announcement (as was the case yesterday) then I do an in-depth dive. This happens to be a dive of 80+ pages. That takes a little bit of time.

I also have to do my standard coordination of international coordination, publication, communication with other teams, this forum migration I'm doing an in-depth analysis of, etc. If I didn't care to look into issues such as this, I'd have changed the forums to closing off all news comments. But I do care. It takes time.

EDIT: except I haven't even had a chance to get my coffee. Glarble.

Coffee, first. Diplomacy is sometimes more manageable under the influence of caffeine.

Nowhere does it say that there won't be projects for said ships based off the new currency.

Yes, it does. Read the ENTIRE dev blog before commenting. They are retiring the old ships.

Yes. That's what makes me sad. He's getting attacked in this thread over a system that isn't even something he works on, over a position that isn't even his, because he tries to make himself readily available.

The thread is up to 80 pages because this is an important issue that the community is discussing regarding the change to pearls. This is not an opportunity to attack people personally. I am keeping this thread open because I want people to address the issues over their concerns. However, if this turns into simply unnecessary and petty personal attacks or off-topic comments, then I will exact necessary change.

Well, I agree, Trendy, neither you, nor Taco deserve the hate. Albeit, I hope you're passing along to the people responsible how displeased they have made the player base with the extra grindy-ness and proverbial punch to the face this announcement is.

At this point, like the Winter event, I will probably skip this one.

Retiring Lohlunat Pearls for the coming summer event is bad - at least you could say that telling us about this now is bad communication.

Right now some people complain that they've got loads of Lohlunat Pearls and can't use those for the new event-ships. But those Pearls aren't useless, since you are able to convert those into Spec-Points, Starship-Emotes or R&D Packages.
I didn't see complaints about "having not enough Lohlunat Pearls" yet. Those characters that would benefit most from this conversion are those that just hit level 60 - the Delta-Recruits that just hit that level didn't grind Lohlunat Pearls last year.

You can say what you want about the event ships, it's not a big loss that the previous 2 summer-event ships won't come-back. And Cryptic didn't announce the coming event-ships yet: Imagine they would announce an updated Risaian Corvette, T6... Would you be still mad at them for not bringing back the T5?
I would be mad if its a totally different ship. If only the Tier changed to 6 but console and most importently the designe is same i would be okay with it. Now you can say its ugly or not its unique and they will take away something unique from the game. If they really want to take it away as a reward, why not make it redeemable from store so those who wanned to get it for another toon exaple the new DR they could, or just tradable within account if you have it in the que and wanna finish it.

I do feel sorry for Trendy as being the infantry on the front lines she has to bear the brunt of this discontent and frankly disgusting decision from the management team. So guys and girls go easy on her .
I have an experience in working in customer relations and sadly the bosses do make wrong and unpopular changes, and its the poor people who are on the front lines that have to try to play peacemaker and survive the barrage of anger and frustration and try to dress up this decision as a good thing.

So be angry at Cryptic the company, be angry at the people in charge, but spare a thought for Trendy, she is the community manager who has no say in these decisions but has to handle the customer rage for something out of her control. I bet after reading through a lot of the posts she's just as annoyed by the changes as anyone, simply due to the flak she has to take from it.

If you got any paid holiday left to take Trendy make sure you book it a week before new events and the 1st week during them in future to miss all this fun :0

The backlash might impact the winter event as I assume they will follow suit with Qmendations as well, but I wouldn't get my hopes up there either.

It's too late to save the Risian ships, that's for sure (see the old "It's only beta, don't have a cow." - "It's too late now, why didn't you complain during beta?" issue).

It is a "this far, no further!" point though for winter and anniversary events, possibly.

A Risian pilot ship? Now wouldn't that be clever?

That's what I've been saying. I'm anticipating the Risian Event ship to be a T6 version of the Risian Corvette.

Which is why it's being "retired". They did the same thing with the Patrol Escort when the Tempest came out.

Since they continue to pay lip service to the idea that T5-U and T6 ships are effectively the same, by retiring the T5 Risian Corvette, they can just pretend it never existed at all while simultaneously making us grind for what is more or less the same exact ship with slightly better stats. Minus the discount, of course.

They've put too much labor hours into the Risian ships to sincerely retire them. I predict they're just going to repackage them as T6 variants and continue to pretend the T5 versions never existed.

And yes, I anticipate the same thing for all the Breen ships that came before the Sarr Theln.

Want to register my feedback that I am not bothered by this change at all. I am indeed one of the people who saves up last year. It means I do fully run the event, but that I get the ship sooner and work on next years. So this change really means nothing to me. I'm running the event anyway, I just get the ship at the end instead of the beginning, and I am compensated for my time spent last year.

    No. Big. Deal.

If there was a ship that should be a pilot ship it'd be the Corvette. But they should have said that *BEFORE* they said they were taking away the (T5) Corvette and Cruiser.

Being all coy about it isn't helping their PR at this point.

Unless you wanted a Corvette or Cruiser for your DR. Taken away in the name of "exclusivity".

ok, forewarning, this is NOT an attack, this is the calm and considered thoughts of a rationally thinking person who is very very confused and concerned.
wow..the amount of venom flying about over retiring the pearls..just..take a step back people and consider the following:

1, an mmo is always changing and evolving and the devs must change and evolve their thinking and plans to suit, thus the end product will ALWAYS be different SOMEHOW than initially planned and intended.

2, the public relations specialists(trendy etc), community managers, and moderators have about as much information regarding this as the rest of us, in this case, it is very clearly NOT ENOUGH information.

3, the devs and project leads(with the exception of the moderators who find out at the same time as the rest of us I think?) ultimately have the final say on what the people on point two can release to us eager content consumers.

4, if you want to provide them with feedback, remember, they're human too, and like most humans, they dont tend to respond well to outright demands. ask nicely and often times get a good result in return.

5, I admin at a message board and several facebook pages and never have I seen so much disrespect being directed at people who have as much information as the rest of us. calm down, take a step back and think rationally.

I had pneumonia prior to and during the release of Season 10. I worked through the release (I thought it was bronchitis at the time) because I consider it my responsibility. I'm not about to shy away and take a vacation, especially if there are hot-button issues. :P

You're being compensated, but not in the way you / we were led to believe.

If I'd had any hint that stocking up on seasonal currencies for the next year wouldn't yield a ship, or that previous ships wouldn't be obtainable, I'd have definitely shuffled around my play choices.

They are retiring the old ships. You will be able to complete slotted projects from last year with the new currency but there is no other way to get the old ships.

That would have been a problem with the Breen carrier since you needed the frigate to get the frigate pets.

If there is something similar with the Summer ship (pets, consoles we need) then it's still OK as long as they give us some way to get the pets or consoles without the old ships.

I should point out that people rage at Cryptic no matter what they do -- people ranted here about bringing back the Shaka emote since it was supposed to have been exclusive. Cryptic "ruined" it by letting the new players have it too.

No, that's because you were inducted into the Order of the Looming Shadow. You know that removing thumbprints is part of the initiation process.

Not sure how they would even adress the issue ... the Store is on Holodeck ... the damage is already done ...
    ___________

Best you could hope for is probably some : "We understand your frustration ..."

They could change their minds and still offer the corvette and cruiser.
On the other hand, they might use the same models and give us a command cruiser and pilot corvette. (You'd need 2 characters running the mission to get both, but that's easily doable.)

In any case, I think that I'd prefer getting the spec points rather than early access to the next ship, so I'll probably go ahead and spend my lols.
(And I was looking forward to a science ship. Now, there's no telling what we'll get.)

Correct. If I saved up to get Apples, but was told they were retiring Apples and giving me Oranges instead, I'll take the Oranges if given no other choice.

But I originally had my mind set on Apples, regardless of what I'm being compensated with.
