edit: Er, I obviously posted this in the wrong thread - but I can't remember where I meant to post it.

I made a clarification, since I didn't think you understood what I was getting it. I have not changed my point.

I just don't like people declaring "Your build is flawed if you can't do X" and not offer suggestions. I've seen too many people rant and rave about people not being able to do something and not providing anything constructive in return. To me that feels like an insult to less experienced players and I kinda feel the need to stand up for them as an experienced player.

Follow the chain of posts. Remember that Performance is a result of Piloting, Build, and Gear - where Piloting and Build are multipliers for Gear.

Someone claimed that the threat mechanic is flawed because the tanks stay back and the strikers go close. That highlighted portion is poor Piloting.

I pointed out his entire objection is based upon an incorrect presumption. Everybody should be flying close. This is Piloting 101: Minimize Distance To Target.

    (Is that not a suggestion?)

Someone then states that there are cases where shouldn't do that because you need to avoid getting hit.

My response should perhaps been more in depth - but the point was that poor Build/Gear is no excuse to also be a poor Pilot.

This is when you jumped in. You've essentially been trying to justify and suggest deliberately bad Piloting (as a "legit tactic") to counter the consequences of bad Build/Gear. Sure, run away if the alternative is to blow up, but that's a contingency, not a proper tactic.

Piloting suggestions are easy to make because it applies to everything, but Builds are ship-specific. Unless somebody actually asks, we can't really make a suggestion for improvement, can we?

There have been plenty of times where people have asked and I've posted complete builds for multiple budgets (generally no-DOffs, core-DOffs, luxury-DOffs versions) along with breakdowns of the defensive and offensive rotations. But they have to ask.

Yea you could have been more clear. And I wasn't advocating "Bad piloting". I was advocating tactical thinking. Running doesn't always help. There have been instances where I ran, and still died. Drove me nuts. Especially when I heal, only to lose that and more and then die.

In the case of the gates, there is more than one way to fight it. If you're not confident in surviving a full assault, park in the blind spot and unload.

Again, that's advocating a potential exploit. Is the blind spot intended - is it a bug - and so forth.

It's like in other games of exploiting terrain where the line of sight for attacks is one way so one is able to attack freely without concern. It's an exploit.

It's one of those, "Hey content guys, just to let you know unless you already knew - there's this blind spot in Infect Space where you can attack the Gateway without being attacked yourself - not sure if you guys intended that as an Easter Egg sort of thing for folks to find and use or if it's a bug; but I figured I'd check with you guys first."

Not everyon can fit in there. I don't use it all the time myself, but in some cases I do depending on how confident I am in my build and who's got aggro. If it's on me... well... probably some time for the team to get in some hits before it turns its attention to them. In Kitomer Space I'm more inclined to find the blind spot, but might end up getting chased out by spheres.

The devs know. Borticus back when he did STOked handed it out as a strategy to beat ISE, back when mk11 borg gear was THE end game stuff

    ^This.

I rationalize it as the Borg didn't put weapons in places where they would risk hitting their own stuff. Tactical vulnerability. And IMO we need more things like this to mix up space combat. Maybe larger ships are more vulnerable from certain angles or they are more vulnerable to Ability X. It's more interesting than just "Rush in, kill, rinse and repeat". You can still rush in, but you also have options.
