TY PVP For bringing the nerf hammer to SS

birzarkbirzark Member Posts: 634 Arc User
This is from red shirt patch notes:

Surgical Strikes:
Resolved an issue that was causing some Disruptor Cannons to benefit less from this power than intended.
Plasma, Phaser, and Disruptor Quad Cannons now use correct FX and Icons when using this ability.
Accuracy and Critical Hit bonuses reduced:
Rank 1 = unchanged 20%
Rank 2 = reduced from +30% to +26%
Rank 3 = reduced from +40% to +32%
Damage multipliers reduced:
Rank 1 = base multiplier reduced by ~10%
Rank 2 = base multiplier reduced by ~16.8%
Rank 3 = base multiplier reduced by ~21.5%

I understand an accuracy reduction but a damage reduction as well?

    This is Geko's fault

    It was a PvP issue

But instead of making the changes verses player

He made the changes verses all

Would be nice if the pvpers could have adapted just once in the last five years.

The amount of ignorance filling up in this thread is amazing.

Yes PvP'ers brought it to their attention.
But what got SS so heavy nerfed was PvE parsing by the devs. :P

But you missing the point, it should of just been changed against players which can be done, on several weapons this change exists, but now it changes it for everyone.

Wrong, they changed it because its overperforming period, in both PvE and PvP.

There's only like 6 people that PvP anymore. And those people love Surgical Strikes, especially when they could fire while cloaked.

This is the standard development cycle. New thing is OP, people point out it's OP for months, once they're a couple weeks away from releasing the next OP thing they "fix" it, next OP thing is released, repeat.

It happens all the time but it seems that most people are too dense to see the process. I can't wait for all the tears over some Intel powers being given to NPCs...

This is what the 5th thread making the same baseless assumption? Please continue your ignorant raging, let me get some popcorn.

Yup, and I just ran out of kettle corn D: The SS nerfing was pretty easy to predict and now I'm glad I never bought the delta pack or invested in Intel ships.

Honestly its pretty dumb to think Intel ships are useless because on power got nerfed.
There are still crazy powers like OSS3 that can push Intel ship firepower and performance way above that of non-intel ships.
Not to mention their cloak and stealth bonuses and integrated powers.

to be fair pvp adapted to the jousting that is kill trading one bang after the other instantly for minutes on end.

and honestly ss dmg was stupidly high maybe now they will bring some hp numbers down a tad but cryptic wants us to spend 1 hour in an stf so here ya go pve reason to nerf it.

Just because SS has been normalized does not mean the other old methods of DPS have.

    This is true

did a intel ship using SS3 even come close to being a top DPS maching ?....no

A scimitar with CritDx4 anti protons does approx. 100% ??? more DPS than a phantom in the record books

so the problem isn't and never was a PvE DPS problem

So much butthurt. And it's directed at people who have been getting the short end of the stick far more often and far longer than carebears have.

Seriously, blaming pvp at this point is like blaming a dead horse for beating itself. The pvp community remains on this forum for forum pvp and laughing at threads like these.

Tl; dr incase this is hard to grasp. The pvp community can't get **** nerfed when none of us play anymore outside of forum pew.

It's hillarious that people still think "nerfs" are a result of the dwindling PvP population and that said population has any leverage over what the devs. decide to do with this game.
It's like we've time travelled back to 2011 or sth. :D

They did it with carebears in mind, wait for the next PvE event to be released and you'll understand. Stop blaming PvPers for FIXES to BROKEN mechanics. The NPCs can't complain, so when a player actually has to face some of this broken stuff, it quickly becomes clear what is getting a deserved fix (as seen here with SS), and what changes can be called a 'nerf.'

I believe I have a better way to balance surgical strikes. But its a more appropriate discussion for the game mechanics forum. So hear it is:

Given the current state of STO PvP, the idea that you think Cryptic "listened to PvPers" and made such a changed based on comments of their miniscule number of players actively trying to keep any STO PvP actually going is amusing as hell.

Blame Cryptic data mining and metrics because that's the only thing that causes change in STO. They want you to spend X amount of minimum time killing certain types of MOBs (so you gain XP ONLY at a rate Cryptic is happy with.) If a power causes X to be too small in Crytic's eyes, out comes the Nerf bat.

It's still the truth. And nothing that a bit of teamwork can do outside of raw DPS.
    jellico1 wrote: »

Unlike PVE, unless you know specifically the target you're about to fight, you never truly know how good the other guy is. They could be noobs you pop real easy. They could be that someone that will give you a good run for the money. They could also be that person that will grab you, throw you over the table, and have their way with you.

    You never know.

However, unlike PVP, in PVE, you will ALWAYS know what the enemy is capable of (little). They follow the EXACT same set of patterns. When X happens, Y will then occur. Always. To a "T."

So, in PVP, the enemy has at least that chance because they can do something that you're not prepared for regardless of the instance. In PVE, it's always the same formula. No variation. The same dumb NPCs that do next to nothing, measuring yourselves against TRIBBLE NPCs that do nothing.

Not so amusing when you realize it's true.

Psychologically, Devs, in any MMO, are inclined to listen to PvP-ers only. That's because Devs are technically knowledgeable, and so are decent PvP-ers. So, there's always a natural tendency to listen to the PvP community, exclusively almost, and to ignore the scrubs. It's, psychologically, a sort of 'peer-to-peer' deal between Dev and PvP-er.

So, to formulate it correctly, it's not so much PvP-ers per se the Devs choose to listen to, but 'other knowledgeable peope.' And the latter just happen to be PvP-ers (generally spoken).

A Dev, however, should always remain his professional objectivity, and realize it's that other 99% of the game he's really writing code for. If not, well, see major SS nerf.
