Rewards in other areas were increased. About 3x in PvE queues.
Give it a try yourself tomorrow, then if it's still unsatisfactory, then bring back the pitchforks. Also read the announcement. It's a little too early to jump to conclusions.
For one thing, I'm glad the Argala-ad-nauseum runs are coming to an end.
Well lets see we got a way to get ancient power cells and neural processors without going into an STF for beginning players and alts, we are getting dilithium from all content, and increase to skill points in everything, hopefully the fix for lag in the ui and tray works but its there and there is actually a lot of other positive things about the patch notes but sure complain about the boring grind of argala over and over. How dare cryptic want you to play other parts of the game by increasing rewards.
Argala system patrol will have a 30 minute cooldown. This will make leveling high level characters even harder. Not to mention specialisations.
Cryptic, out of curiosity, are you actually trying to drive players away or are you just really good at making poor decisions?
Argala spam is about as fun as pulling teeth. They're increasing XP rewards in other areas, which means we'll be able to do more than just Argala. Other areas are becoming viable again.
And seriously... when did this game become totally focused on Argala? Oh... right... because at the time it was really the only quickway to earn XP. Now people actually have to play more than one piece of content to death.
Sorry if I sound a bit... B****y about it, but I do get tired of people crying Nerf and grabbing pitchforks EVERY SINGLE TIME Cryptic changes something. Give it a chance before you tie it to a stake and provide constructive feedback! Demands for change and threats aren't going to help solve problems, and only leads to less communication between players and Devs because they'll assume we'll just throw a tantrum so why bother. Pointing out bugs and providing details respectfully will.
The point of these changes is to get people out of Argala by distributing more rewards across different areas of the game. This is not Argala Online. I can't believe people actually treated it as such...

It's because some people must have everything now... That's pretty much the extent of it... Those who insist they must grind Argala patrols to cap Specialisations NOW! have created that mentality for themselves...
It's only human nature to take the 'path of least resistance' which, to date, has been Argala... Give it a week, a new optimal means to gather Spec Points will come to the fore and we'll see people whinging about the grind XYZ Activity because they must have their Spec Points NOOOOOWWWW!!1!

Yeah what the hell is wrong with people who bought intel ships and want to fully use them? Something clearly not-right-in-the-head with some people.

...
"Other areas are becoming viable again"... Hmmm, sounds remarkably familiar to the reasoning behind the decision to not let mark->dil projects benefit from dilithium weekends.
I could fairly easily get 1 specialization point in 60 minutes from repeating the Gerren system patrol over and over. Name some other content, or pieces of content, (easy, hard, doesn't matter) that will get me 1 spec point in 60 minutes that does not require skill point boosts and I will support your position, but as it stands right now, it looks like these "faster" routes were slowed significantly to bring them in line with the rest of the content.

What absolute BS... Sorry, but this is just absolute TRIBBLE...
You never needed to be fully specced into Intel to use an Intel ship - didn't even need a single point... Not once... Not ever...
All you needed was an Intel Boff or two... Your Captain's Intel spec made ZERO difference in the Intel ships... None... Nothing... Notta... Zilch...
Now with the Boff training system revamp, this is now easier than ever, as you can get the Specialisation Qualification - Intelligence Padds (if you can't craft them yourself) off the exchange for all of (at the time of posting this) 299k EC...
The time gate is to stop people's learned pattern of mindlessly running argala over and over, sure the timer is a bit harsh, but boosting rewards elsewhere will be good for queues.
Everytime I went to argala, it was packed with player's, no matter the time or zone, meanwhile the queues were a ghost town, (except a handful of them)
At least now people will have options. Options are good.
And this could've been a lot worse, they could've just lowered the XP payout of Argala to 2000, and not boosted anything else...that wouldve been awful.
(Frankly with the way things are going, I'm surprised they didn't do just that !)

I think it's clear by now, with how often this complaint comes up, that many players are not aware of the option you describe.

Mind boggling. for once Cryptic made a good move, nerf patrols, boost every PVE queue on all difficučties, add dil abd XP to battlezones, dil to story missions , better items in story missions and you cry over Argala? dear god
I just don't get the reasoning behind the patrol nerf. If a player wants to spend 40 hours running one map over and over - let him/her. If they're botting or cheating in someway - absolutely - punish them. But for a person using their playtime in a boring as hell activity - they deserve any points they earn in there. How does it effect another player in any way, with the exception of the seven of you who still pvp, if someone power rushes a spec tree?
This isn't going to change anything - people will go from Argala/Gerren to the new 'least resistance'. Cryptic has got it in their head that they can pick when and how players enjoy the game. Oh, you can't save marks for a dilithium weekend. Oops, you can't save reputation turn ins for a dilithium weekend. Hey now, you're supposed to take 8 months for spec points, you're not supposed to grind a system and actually fill this up.
If I want told what I need to do, when and where I need to do it, I'm going to go to work. Not log into a video game. Yes, other maps are getting a buff - but I'll lay down a million ec that it's not anywhere near what a player could do in game right now with the boring grind from hell.
If there is so little content in the game that they have to slow down spec point earning just to try and convince us there is an endgame - we have a way, way bigger problem then people willing to power grind one map...

I'm with you on that. I haven't spammed Argala like some people do. Only time I really spammed it was to try and finish my Intel tree during the XP Weekend before the Command tree came out.
Got the flu and wasn't able to achieve my goal. But I eventually DID finish it and have actually started on my Pilot tree. Improved XP payouts in other areas is going to make this so much easier and more fun than just camp one system and do the exact same thing with a chance of fighting Kazon, Malon, or Hirogen. Maybe I wanna fight something else!
im looking forward to the fleet becoming a fleet again and the solo leveling going away
would be nice to get some pugs going as well
Now all we got to do is get this crazy fails and timers removed

exchange does need a clearer gui than a reskinned w98 file tree...
Yep... After all the other recent UI revamps, this is one UI that is just screaming for reworking and I would hope is nearing the top of the to-do list by now...

But yeah, it seems xp is getting an even rarer commodity than dilithium.

But I want spec points NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. How else I can do STFs? By fighting smarter? Teamwork? I don't know what these things mean!
So what doff missions level up ships?
I think I'll just have to grind the undine space battle zone here on out.

So every mission that will give good XP will have a timer, and to get this XP will need a good team to finish it.
If you have one alt ok but what happened to the support for other als, out of the window.

you mean like every event....
no if it gives good xp they'll just nerf the reward to "make it more in line with other content"
Before DR we played the STF's over and over again.

Did you actually read ANY of the posts about this for the past 2 weeks? The testing on Tribble?
The new rewards?
The devs have commented numerous times a CD was coming. That the XP was going to be balanced based on time.
Relax. Switch between your alts and enjoy the ride
