Login instantly times out when changing characters

It seems that when I swap characters in the evening CST, usually when it seems the servers are busy, I will VERY frequently get an instant message that says the log in has timed out when it tries to show me my characters. It dumps me back to the login, and trying again, it usually gives the same message immediately. This will often go on for several minutes of me trying to log in, before finally showing me character select. And as I pointed out, the time it waits is less than a second. When I try during the day, or later at night, or on off nights, this is much less noticeable or not even an issue.

While I was traveling and playing on my laptop over the slow hotel network, I NEVER ran into this, for 3 nights straight. Until then, I assumed it was just another bug in STO. Granted, I was in another time zone, so playing 2 hours later than usual.

Does anyone else get this? Is this just a bug, or is there something in my game I can set up so it tries to log in for, oh, I don't know, more than half a second.

I plan on trying on my laptop when it gets real bad to see if it's consistent, or different per computer.
